Holy moly, this is mental! You may recall a little while back we reported on a GTA Online fan fix which, despite being detailed in ridiculously complicated language, effectively reducing the title’s infamous loading times on PC. Rockstar has now acknowledged the alteration – and will be implementing it in a future update!
“After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that player t0st did, in fact, reveal an aspect of the game code related to load times for the PC version of GTA Online that could be improved,” the label told PC Gamer. “As a result of these investigations, we have made some changes that will be implemented in a forthcoming title update.”
Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether this update will also improve the PlayStation 4 version as well, but we’ve got our fingers crossed. Rockstar, for the record, did say it had contacted the original programmer who figured out this fix, and “would like to thank him again for his efforts”. As it turns out, he got paid $10,000 for the discovery – a nice little windfall.

That’s a ton of Shark Cards!!!
@2cents Shark cards have no purpose anymore since we got the carico heist. Not that I care or play it, because I maxed out before the last dlc came out.
This is quite literally the dream for a lot of amateur programmers. Perhaps in the future we’ll see a whole network of fans doing this sort of thing instead of exploiting security vulnerabilities for their own benefit?
@nessisonett google already does something similar to with Chrome
@denpanosekai Yeah, a lot of companies employ white hat hackers but this is the first time I’ve seen the concept employed by a video game company in this way.
Rockstar's put to shame the naysayers that said they'd trash the code and won't acknowledge anything. R* most of the time actually listen. Before GTAV's release I remember emailing them months in advance to include some artist's music, they replied and said they'd definitely consider that. I was shocked to see said artist in the radio tracklist. Shouts to R*!
Nice feel good story. Maybe RDO can also be aided by that programer.
@TheArt Hmmm still waiting on the single player dlc for gta v and RDR 2 that a lot of people have been requesting instead of having to play the terribly made online modes...
I hope the console version will be improved, too.
@Nepp67 I've given up hope of GTA V and RDR2 getting single player DLC.
We're more likely to get PS5 remakes/remasters of RDR 1 and the PS2 trilogy first. (3, San Andreas, and Vice City)
Nice to read about..i love the single player but hated the load times...i would have enjoyed the online side more if you were able to set up private games as the online community for the most part are horrible people...
Can Sony & FromSoft do the same with Bloodborne’s 60FPS patch... pretty please with sugar on top
@Nepp67 I know. I'd love DLCs too but truth is...a lot of games don't actually owe us any DLC. Sad but true. I think the Epilogue plus me not finding all secrets yet in RDRII is DLC enough. Abby's side of the story in TLOUII is DLC enough. But hey of course I'd want more, maybe they don't wanna get accused of cutting content out and releasing later as DLC.
@KidBoruto Same here man, if only people didn't buy microtransactions as much we might have
@TheArt You're quite the fanboy of Rockstar that you make incredibly weak excuses to defend them. Especially in that last sentence. Lol.
@Nepp67 Yep a real fanboy of makers of masterpieces, can't be that bad. And not entitled enough to always feel like I'm owed something.
Fully deserved. It was an excellent breakdown, and glad Rockstar were big enough to act on it rather than pretend it’s all fine. I’m sure there’s a lot of dodgy code in games that couldn’t be tidied in time for release, so I’ll happily take this precedent.
@XinGViruS Dancehall boss Kartel.
Does CDPR have enough money to employ this technique?
It's a double edged sword. On one hand kudos to the guy for the fix and R* for acknowledging him....
On the other hand it means this whole fix after launch and bug fixes is actually nonsense, this game is now 3 generations old yet R* did not attempt to fix the horrible load times. If R* are this lazy what about the games that actually release in game breaking buggy states........
Imagine Bethesda would pay for every fan fix of Skyrim...
@Bamila are you sure you’ve played GTA Online?
The Carico heist is a sham, barely any payout for a ton of upfront expense and time wasted on set up.
Shark Cards are just as purposeful as ever. I refuse to buy them, but personally know plenty who do
@Jacko11 I do. Well over 1,5k hrs.
@Bamila Interesting 🤔
@GREGORIAN I wouldn’t necessarily read into it that deeply. It might be an issue R* simply couldn’t figure out or find.
Same way someone found a typo of simply one letter in the code for Alien Colonial Marines years after, and it completely changed the AI of the Aliens, granted still a bad game.
But coders, modders and hackers etc have fresh eyes on code. They might spot things even the best developers in the world can’t.
I dunno, just a thought.
Is it me, i'm playing through gta 5 for the first time now on ps4, and it seems almost flawless. I dont think you can call them lazy considering how far they went on rdr2. The amount of content is unparalleled.
