Love it or loathe it, Godfall was definitely billed as a PlayStation 5 showcase. As a result, the title attracted some unfortunate expectations: it was clearly developed by a smaller team on a restricted budget, but was meant to demonstrate the capabilities of Sony’s next-gen console. Unfortunately, it never quite lived up to the hype.
Now it seems the release is poised to reach a much larger audience, as a PEGI rating in Europe has revealed that it’s slated for PS4. Counterplay Games is yet to officially confirm the port, but it’s rare for software to receive official ratings when there’s no release plan. We awarded the title a 5/10 in our Godfall PS5 review, praising its combat but criticising its inconsequential loot and repetitive environments.

That would be... odd. I honestly can’t name another next-gen exclusive in this sense that has been ported back to older consoles later.
@nessisonett - Resogun got ported back to PS3 and Vita. Both of those versions were woeful.
I think this game was underrated. It definitely could have been better but the combat alone makes it fun to play. I’d give it a 7/10.
But yeah, the visuals were nice on PS5. Probably look like crap on PS4 though.
Demon's Souls, next?
Got leaked by Sony themselves.
Genuinely forgot this game existed, which i predicted when it was originally revealed. It looked so generic. Im guessing it sold less than hoped, so the developers are trying to reach a wider audience. Was this a title billed as only being possible on next gen?
I love how Twitter is all over this like "Sony LIED again" lol (obviously Sony has nothing to do with this)
Wouldn't it made more sense to port it to Xbox Series X? Why for the PS4?
@chicken_chaser I think the Demon's Souls thing was retracted since it said "not available on other consoles and PC for a limited time" as if it was just a timed exclusive that could come to a competing console like Xbox
I'm pretty sure the Demon's Souls trailer was re-uploaded with that entire byline removed so it's still billed as a pure PS5 exclusive
@nessisonett "can’t name another next-gen exclusive in this sense that has been ported back"
Yeah not even Okami or RE4, and they're on everything. OK, I kinda glossed over that "exclusive" part. 😁
Considering how PS5 and XSX function I wouldn't be surprised to see more of this. That may be the new way of working, build to current gen, port to last gen, as long as the last gen keep selling. Maybe not Xbox 1 but PS4 for I bet another year or 2 or even 3 until the PS5 comes in stock, then the price come down to $199. Reading about those XSS specs I think an X1X could run almost anything it can, meaning X1X could probably run anything XSX could. If, you know, if ever gets a game. 🤷♂️
@chicken_chaser @TheFrenchiestFry also when they dropped that trailer for demons souls the trailer for FF 16 was also out with the legend of "PS5 exclusive" when in the presentation the also PC legend was clear. It was pretty obvious that the intern who only had one job did it wrong and put the legend of one in the other.
@SoulsBourne128 Because no doubt they've signed a contract with Sony to make it exclusive to Sony hardware.
@Total_Weirdo I was going to post this, until I read yours. They have to make some money back, is my guess too.
@Rob_230 this game started development as a ps4 exclusive, than it was announced it would come to ps5 too, than the epic game store too, and than the ps4 version was cancelled because “the project became too much for ps4 to handle so they had to move it fully to ps5”. Also the epic game store versiob has RTX which the ps5 version doesn’t have.
So if it will indeed come to ps4 the entire reason for cancelling the ps4 version will end up being BS.
I am not even sure why any of these need to be exclusive. It is an insane Console mentality.
Did not upgrade my PC GPU because it had "exclusives"... I just wanted Cyberpunk 2077 (and everything else) to run better and have RayTracing. My old graphic card could not do that.
Anyone who does not care about that can keep their 1080 or PS4. This is finally how it shoud be.
@dudeAmarillo
yea, that kinda makes sense.
I can’t say I’m surprised tbh. I haven’t seen any next gen games that couldn’t run on PS4 with a visual downgrade and slightly longer loading screens.
@SoulsBourne128 Its coming to XSX. It was 6 months launch exclusive for PS5.
Yeah because a limited user base was the problem...
Wouldn't surprise me if the upcoming Ratchet and Clank game gets a PS4 version next. I hope it doesn't but at this point it really wouldn't surprise me at all.
@Slippship - Disagree all you want. The Resogun ports were piss poor in comparison to the PS4 version.
@rjejr - Those games weren't ported backward from PS4. They started life on PS2 and Gamecube and got ports to later generation machines.
@Shigurui "Those games weren't ported backward..."
Which is why I wrote "Yeah not even...". 😁
@SoulsBourne128 PS4 has a way bigger userbase.
This is how all current game development should be moving forward with newest generation of consoles. Focus on top end, then port to older hardware. Makes sense!
@nessisonett My first instinct would be that this game was developed for xbox one, PS4, Xbox Series and PS5 at the same time and was exclusive to PS5 purely for contract reasons.
Especially given the short six months exclusivity.
@darkswabber
"So if it will indeed come to ps4 the entire reason for cancelling the ps4 version will end up being BS."
Most of the reasons for games being nextgen exclusive and not being able to run on PS4 are always mostly BS, It's just to sell the next hardware. Now that it's hard to get hands on said latest hardware, it's only sensible to release on the already established gargantuan userbase.
If it is still "always online" than without me.
They knew their game failed miserably so now they're trying to release it on more systems to hopefully get more sales.
Now with triple the load times
75% less resolution
And 'classic' 30fps gameplay!
I enjoyed Godfall as a one week rental. Beyond that it gets too repetitive. The combat system.is fun though. It will be a good PSplus game.
No doubt this will be a ps plus PS5 game soon
@RubyCarbuncle It can't, needs solid state. Also, Sony is making Ratchet, they did not make this.
@Slippship - Harsh how? The PS3 and Vita ports of Resogun are objectively worse than the original game. If you had fun that's cool but they're both sub par versions of Resogun.
@Shigurui I agree. Godfall is mediocre enough without playing it at sub 30 with long load times.
@Agramonte PC has more exclusives than any console by a mile.
Godfall for PlayStation Plus seems to be imminent.
@RubyCarbuncle I'd be surprised. I can't imagine the PS4 can load in the new areas the way that Ratchet and Clank requires. It seems to be leaning on the SSD for that.
Having played Godfall it was very decent game and I very much enjoyed it online with a friend. 7/10 It really doesn’t deserve the hate it gets.
@Shepherd_Tallon That's what I was thinking too but you never know. If it does happen I suppose it would be nice for those still struggling to get their hands on a PS5. I might not like the idea of it personally but at the same time I would be pleased for them.
@Coltaine22 I'm doubtful but like I said to the other guy you never know.
@rjejr - Misread, my bad mate.
@chicken_chaser That's good, because the game is definitely gonna need that considering how much the hype or interest for the game died (or at best, is slowly dwindling). I hope the developers can continue to improve on the game or else it'll suffer the same fate as Anthem. Imo, I would have enjoyed the game a lot more, even if it got repetitive, if it wasn't for the "always online" requirement. Same thing with Outriders. Did games like Nioh and Borderlands not show that you can make a loot-based game that you can play with and without online?
@Flaming_Kaiser Well, you got that right lol
@chicken_chaser Doubt it. They are likely only doing this because it bombed so badly on PS5.
@Coltaine22
You can "Upgrade" to a 3080 to play "PC Games" (exclusive or not) at 4K/60FPS/RTX ON. Or keep your 1080Ti and play them at 1080p/30fps/RTX Off.
Nobody expects publishers to make "RTX3000 Exclusive" games to justify the upgrade. We all play the same games (at different levels)
How many "Playstation Games" (exclusive or not) cant be played by PS4 owners was never a PS5 selling point for me.
@rjejr @shigurui technically you could say they were ported backwards from the gamecube to the ps2 but I know that's not what you meant.
If you think about it though, one of the original pillars of home gaming was the porting of games from superior hardware (usually arcade or the lead platform) to less powerful machines and a practice that was still in place up to at least the ps3 era or as it seems, is still happening today.
@nessisonett Sonic the Hedgehog?
@hi_drnick Ahhh, I totally forgot about Master System Sonic the Hedgehog! That’s a good one actually.
@Slippship
One hundred percent this. Playing Resogun on the go was a joy
Enjoyed godfall a hell of a lot..have 3 trophys left to get and while its not everybodys cup of tea i think the reviews were pretty harsh..7/10 game for me..not surprised its being brought to the ps4 as it has a much larger installed user base but i cant help think that if matchmaking was implemented online instead of only being able to play with friends it would have shifted a lot more units especially seeing as it can be easily purchased for under £30 at most retailers..dirt 5 is another that suffers from awful online play..for all the great things devs bring to their games they always seem to overlook what makes an online game work...
@RubyCarbuncle Same here - even if every PS5 owner bought it, the sheer revenue of releasing it on the PS4 might be too much to resist.
And let's face it, in the light of the recent Biomutant visuals, the PS4 is still an extremely capable bit of kit. Unless the game is completely tied into the uber-SSD, I suspect the PS4 would push about 1080p @ 30fps on the base and the Pro would be capable of 4K @ 30fps.
@Coltaine22 @Shepherd_Tallon Quick question on this - if you buy a copy of R&C on the PS5 on blu-ray disc, does the entire game get installed onto the SSD? Otherwise you'll get optical disc read lag that would mean that the PS4 could be capable? Be interested to know.
I'm always fine with PS4 versions...
As long as you get a free PS5 upgrade.
Then you're just getting two-in-one with future proofing.
It's just good marketing due to massive PS4 install base and good customer service to make the buy-in uncomplicated.
Just shows exactly why Sony are still doing cross-gen titles bar a few games.
PS4 has over 114m install base. PS5 has just over 6m last time I saw, and how many of those are in scalpers hands?
The PC version show a last gen port is possible as the min specs are a GTX 1060 and i5-6600.
Could easily be dynamic 1080p 30FPS on base PS4 and 1440p 30FPS on PS4 Pro.
@SoulsBourne128 And with these shortages i think crossplatform is the way to go for a little longer. In the end they need to make their money.
One less reason to play on PS5 now, not that I would have ever recommended this game to anyone lol.
When I do get around to getting this game, definitely playing PS5 version.
