Guerrilla Games has finally lifted the lid on Horizon Forbidden West following its announcement roughly one year ago with a State of Play presentation dedicated entirely to the title. Featuring roughly 15 minutes of gameplay ripped from a PlayStation 5, the sequel dazzles with gorgeous and colourful visuals that bring this new environment to life. Heroine Aloy is also kitted out with a few new tools, including a grappling hook and a glider. You'll see both in action in the gameplay trailer embedded above.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, narrative Director Ben McCaw explains that the sequel takes place six months after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn. "Aloy, a machine hunter, has travelled west to investigate a mysterious and deadly blight. In these uncharted lands, she will meet strange new tribes and encounter ever more deadly machines. Together with old friends and new companions, she must brave this dangerous frontier to find the answers she needs to save life on Earth."
Then there are the new tools Aloy has to utilise, the first being the Pullcaster. This is essentially a grappling hook, which speeds up climbing and makes it much easier to perform. The glider is known as the Shieldwing, and a Diving Mask opens up the ocean for further exploration. "Not to mention big upgrades to her Focus, which now shows areas that allow free-climbing and gives her the ability to override more machines for mounts or combat."
As for a release date, another update is said to be right around the corner. "We don’t have an exact release date yet, but development is on track and we’ll have an update for you very soon." Amazing, absolutely stunning! Can't wait!
Looks brilliant! Underwater looks beaut
Wow. Best looking game I’ve ever seen!
3D audio here I come!! Sheeeeeesh
Cannot wait. looks fantastic!
This was incredible... everything was beautiful and the new combat looks awesome!
It looks amazing. But the fact that there is no release date gives me the feeling that it won't be released this year. I hope I'll be wrong.
Looks very, very promising.
Thank you Guerilla. Thank you Sony. Day one buy.
When she zoomed in from behind the rock, i was sold. I actually said "wow" out loud (and i'm not one for drama). Beautiful!
This was awesome. These events usually disappoint, but today we got two great reveals. My god I'm hyped. I was waiting until physical copies of PS5 were available at retail, but when this and Dying Light 2 hit, I think I'll have to get involved in the online hunt. Just a great day.
Looks very good! But just imagine what this game would be if the PS4 didn't hold it back
This looks amazing! So excited to play it, just like I dropped everything for the first one.
I was really hoping for a release date. But we got one for Dying Light 2, so overall a great gaming afternoon!
It is just amazing. Can’t wait to play this live on my TV. Day 1!
Fantastic time to be in gaming.
Thank you Guerrilla Games! It blew my mind. Can't wait for release now. Day 1 for me
Fantastic. I am blow away, I cannot wait to experience this on the PS5! Great job Guerrilla Games. You rock.
I just watched gifs here and there on Twitter and it looks fantastic.
The new traversal tools and more interesting melee are very welcome. This looks excellent!
Well.... it’s more Horizon! Graphics are really quite pretty and I do hope the underwater and new traversal mechanics help the game feel a bit more engaging.
Special Edition with Tremortusk figure please Guerilla!
That's how you reveal a game! Just wow. Fingers crossed we get a date soon. Still pinning my hopes on October!
It must be that I watched it on my phone but I thought it looked good and improved but easily doable on a PS4.
I’ll have to watch it on my tv when I get home.
impressive graphics... well done Gurilla, this is next big step
Looks amazing, but I'm thinking early 2022 instead of this year.
Absolutely can't wait for this. Stunning art direction and slick gameplay. World looks dense and just begging to be explored. Can't wait to escape with this!
I must admit I didn’t enjoy the first game (I will give it a second try, I swear) but wow this looks so good
Was what I thought it would be amazing.
Hope it is this year and hopefully by then I might have a 65” A80J Sony OLED or maybe A90J.
Christmas could be sensational this year.
@AFCC yes. Same feeling here. But more horizon is ok. The new grapple thing, shield fly and melee is nice.
Internally, I hoped to see this like a glider, a grappling hook and improved melee, but kept my expectations in check. And then they all turned out to be the game after all.
I loved everything I saw. My hype's through the roof now.
That gameplay was one of the best i ever seen.graphics looks amazing.and wow.once again gameplay was top notch.word up son
OMG it looks amazing. I feel the same wow factor as when we saw Uncharted 4 gameplay for the first time. Perhaps Digital Foundry is going to zoom in her nostril and find it looks like 1080p there. Haha
Horizon Zero Dawn was my Game Of The Year,I think this will be Game Of The Decade! This looks absolutely beautiful and amazing, the only thing I was left disappointed with was no release date!
This looks amazing, it’s got everything the first game was lacking, combat alone has sold me but wow what a game this is looking to be
@AFCC
If wanted just on the PS5 then it would around another two years away, why you ask?
Cost, a game with these production values etc needs to sell millions to make it worth the while.
PS5 sales especially with shortages would not be enough the current user base is to small so they need to bring the PS4 on board 110 million consoles sold.
I don’t blame them and I don’t think the game will suffer to much, especially as it is an early PS5 game.
Graphics aside, it just looks like more of the same with a couple of other uninspired additions.
Weirdly underwhelmed by this. It's difficult to even verbalize. Something about the aesthetic just doesn't sit right with me compared to the first game. I feel like I'm watching an actress interact with an obviously green-screened environment.
Otherwise... eh. I loved HZD, but not for the scripted story moments. It was the combat and hunting and upgrading yourself that really made the experience hold together for me. I'm sure the same will be true here.
Really curious to see what the PS4 version looks like now.
@velio84 My thought exactly. They clearly improved where it needed improvement but the density of the environment was the best part.
Parts of the gameplay looked more like something out of an Uncharted than an open world game.
@Kirbyboy92
I think it is hard for any developer now to think of something totally new and or different, especially with high Value production games.
You could say the say about dying light 2, we also saw today. Assassins creed games. Forza Horizon games. Mario kart, Yoshi. The list goes on and on. Cod, fifa etc etc.
I have played them all, it’s more about if you like a type or style of game nowadays.
Like I don’t play fifa or cod anymore and getting bored of Forza horizon now.
But have got more into open world games.
They all become similar in each of their on ways.
Graphics, environment and even gameplay looks better than the first game. Keep in mind the first game, i would argue has the best gameplay from any game. The trees look stunning. I cannot wait to rip off all the parts of the elephant.
Best next gen graphics I've seen so far
One thing I did notice was the lack of blood when Aloy takes out the human enemies. Hopefully we can toggle this on/off in the final game. My only gripe really but not at deal breaker at all.
Looks absolutely amazing, jaw-dropping at times.
Riding that feathered raptor machine promises to be a blast!
Just really hoping manage to get hold of a PS5 before the game is released as I think it will cause my PS4 to catch fire it even attempts to load it!
@fR_eeBritney Well, the first one IMO played it too safe and very politicly correct. I expect they'll do the same with this one. No blood, no short skirts, etc. Safer and appeals to a wider audience, and keeps fanatical groups off their backs. I'd sure like to see a less risk-adverse approach, though.
I want a PS5 for this. No way I'm playing it on PS4.
Looks really great! Combat against human enemies looks much more engaging than Zero Dawn. Traversal also looks a bit more free flowing but not quite full Breath of the Wild. Overall looks like they are improving on the aspects the original struggled on.
Oh and I also believe the fears people had that the PS5 version would be held back because of a PS4 version coming too were soundly put to rest. I am curious to see what it looks like on PS4 though even though I plan to save this one for whenever I got a PS5.
Does anyone find the environments looking a little... static? Like there's very little foliage movement aside from when she moves through the red tall grass area. There's no wind blowing leaves and materials either and the footprints in the sand don't seem prominent. Also there's something odd about the lighting on Aloy, it looks like there's a glow around the character that gives off a "green screen" effect, it especially looks odd when she moves in shadowy areas and goes underwater. Her hair remains perfectly intact underwater and the strands don't even float when she emerges, not to mention she doesn't even look like she went underwater at all after she emerges. I know these are nit-picks but I was expecting a lot more attention to detail for a supposed PS5 showpiece. These are probably some of the compromises they had to make being cross-gen and all.
Somebody in the live chat said Take my money
Couldn't agree more. This is gonna be amazing.
After this gameplay and all of your comments here... I have no more words to say. Wow!
God I'm so sorry for saying this but the combat looks terrible.
I truly hoped to see a total revamp of it but I guess they are still sticking with that clunky, plasticky feel : /
Graphics wise it's beyond incredible and I am an Aloy stan but again, the combat...
Sigh..
Watching in 4K now. Looks great.
@Ralizah I kinda know what you mean. The cut scenes almost seemed out of place for me and Aloy's expressions in them seemed just off. She just didn't seem as the Aloy I remember. Some of the dialogue too. Still it was a small glimpse...
The in game stuff just looked ridiculously good.
@AFCC The game looks stunning i think ill survive.
@truerbluer Yeah i think you are in the minority even lines in the sand when the mamoth fired his laser.
Incredibly beautiful! Looks like a clear step up from the original in every aspect, and especially in combat which is exciting to see!
Holy fudge, that sure did look stunning! I urge to watch this one in 4k if you can.
Wonder if the shield wing and pully thing will be well utilised. Other than too many hostile machines peppered throughout the last area of the first, another thing I saw people notice is that traversing the land was fairly restricted to where the devs wanted you to go and everything else led to sliding and falling down. Would be cool to climb up the constructs in a more free method, even though it didn't really bother me personally.
@Korgon I probably will buy it twice if there is no PS5 for sale and the game releases before i can get one. I put 100 plus hours in the first game and i have yet to finish the expansion. 🤪
@Flaming_Kaiser hey I didn't say otherwise. But just imagine
The game looks incredible. The way she mentions things as she is about to do them. The event scripting that must be going on behind the scenes. Just incredible.
@Fenbops What were you expecting? -shrugs- I thought so, too. Just better traversing options, some different animations, weapons and machines. Any improvement on what was pretty much a 10/10 game is a great achievement. I kind of hope we get to play as someone other than Aloy this time, though. Even if they play mostly the same, it would mix things up.
It looked AMAZING!!! + not just the look of it but the gameplay and enemies to Hmm, ANOTHER PlayStation game to add to my wants list then
PLEEEAAAASSEEEEEEE let it include a 60 fps performance mode!!! I can't stand 30 fps
Hi there fellow gamers.
So...... Is it out yet?
HFW looks absolutely stunning. Beautiful vistas and scenery.
And the new gameplay elements are going to elevate the game even more. More traversal options for exploration and combat, that new sweet melee combat.
Seriously though...... Is it out yet?
Sony just keeps on delivering bangers after bangers.
Play as No Limits indeed.
Just need to know Guerrilla, WHEN is this gem coming out.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
@Ralizah I agree with the "green screen" looking environment, that's the closest way to describe it.
This looks absolutely fantastic.
Absolutely stunning.
I’m really hoping it drops this year. It’s one of the games I got a PS5 at launch for
@AFCC amazing graphics but you can see the PS4 gameplay mechanics, but still looks impressive.
Looks amazing in terms of both gameplay and graphics. My most anticipated game of this year
@Ralizah I wonder how much of that has to do with the video capture and rendering for streaming? I saw something like what I think you're talking about one of the first times Aloy steps out of a bush, and her hair doesn't seem to look right - but I wondered if that was just a streaming artifact from YouTube, rather than the game itself. Hard to be sure, yet.
And no matter how good this looked, it's still pre-release - there's still time for polish and shine. Since my whole family seemed to love the first one, I expect this will be a definite purchase for us.
Now, what I haven't seen yet is anybody talk about the environmental shots they had running for hours before the State of Play started. I saw a variety of areas - oceanfront, jungle, and frozen mountain, at least. Saw a couple tallnecks (one at a time, in the background of two environments - you might miss them if you weren't searching for them), and at least one swimming machine with a bright blue light panning above the water while it swam (Loch Ness Watcher?) and no clue to its size. But not much else - no humans and few machines. Still, I'd like that video as a background or screen saver. It looked pretty cool.
Looks really amazing ,the environment ,the new machines ,etc...the way she sinks into the sand when she walks and run really impressive ,still a work in progress but...take my money now!!!
Looks as fantastic as I thought it would. Is it me or does Aloy look younger though?
I wasn’t a huge fan of the last game but I think I need to give it another go as this looks stunning.
I read a comment about the first game in which the player complained that Aloy would not stop talking to herself. I wish I hadn't read that because that's all I heard in this demo. Looks great not the biggest fan of zero dawn but sometimes the sequel gets it done i.e. mass effect
New benchmark on consoles. Guerilla Games never fails to impress with the visuals it seems. But the combat looked improved. The traversing and physics too. So much little details going on. I think they delivered today. Now I just need that release date.
Still top of my list. Those elephant machines are straight out of the lord of the rings return of the king movie.
Thats supposed to be a ps4 game too? Literally looked on a completely different level than anything out on right now or announced. There's no way it's gonna look like that on ps4. Hell i don't even believe it'll look like that on a ps5. That was surreal
This looks awful. The 1st game sucked as well. And is that 30fps in 2021? That's terrible Guriella. I will not be wasting $70 on this junk.
It was a feast to the eyes. At some moment I thought the velociraptor machine was going to pop right out of the TV! I really liked the new gameplay mechanics too.
Also important: I believe that Guerrilla Games didn't show anything that they can't deliver when the game is released.
The game is looking like a winner to me!
There’s a minority on here that weren’t impressed.
I put myself in that bracket.
The graphics just look really cartoony to me and it doesn’t scream next gen...far from it.
maybe as it’s on PS4 too?
I’ll keep an eye on it but I’m not sure I’ll buy it.
Guessing release date will be between September and December of this year for PS4 and maybe next year for PS5.
Can anyone confirm whether or not if the 14 minute gameplay had ray tracing, I couldn't tell because it was a live stream?
It's pretty, but it does look like the same engine with no new modifications than the 1st game. The color palette makes it look a little too bright in my opinion - the 1st one had colors which were a bit more muted and resultingly - more realistic looking. Also why they felt Aloy needed to be constantly yapping and making cute quips throughout every single moment during gameplay makes it sound really really stupid. I don't recall that on the 1st one. The music is beautiful, but the fact that Aloy doesn't STFU is pretty grating.
And due to the availability of the PS5, I'll be playing it on my Pro I'm guessing.
@Hurblyburbly I was impressed with the overall visual of HFW but yeah it looks cartoonish to me. It looks similar to a Disney animated film than photorealistic. Well, I guess this is how Guerrilla Games intended the game to look visually, so I have no complaints or issues about it.
@AFCC Exactly, It's my only reservation, is that this game could be so much more if it weren't cross generational.
Looks fantastic, although going to be nitpicky. Clipping issues, they need to do something about her hair, clipping in shoulders/body and bow. Make the hair with collision? Footprints, sand seems static, no footprints behind her or enemies. Doesn't look like there is raytracing. It is appearing the PS4 is holding this game back from it's true potential on the PS5.
Almost don't want to say how great the game looks because it's been said loads of times before lol. I do think the lack of a release date is part of the marketing cycle though.
Put out this deep dive before the E3 noise, get people hyped, then say in July release a story trailer with said release date.
Still have the first game and still haven’t played it. Crazy I know, I’ll get on it.
I really can't stand the artificial lighting on characters. Was hoping that would change from the first game with the access to ray tracing tech, but clearly not. Could look even more stunning, but every character has this effect like they're poorly green screened into the world.
Meh, only watched bits so I might of missed something new, but from what I saw, it looks like the first game but with better graphics. I'll pass cheers.
The only thing I didn't like about the trailer was....
nope...
Nothing...
@Dragonaged That's just for demo purposes, Aloy does not talk nearly as much during the actual game.
@Kirbyboy92 Improved graphics, combat, and gameplay mechanics are generally what you can expect out of any sequel, which is exactly what this game is offering. Every game borrows from other games unless it's a revolutionary game that invents something never seen before. This game doesn't need to be revolutionary to be successful and fun. I think most realistic fans are expecting it to be an evolution of the first game, and it looks to be that.
@JJ2 LMAO best comment I’ve read in months
Just wanted to be 100th comment
@truerbluer What resolution were you watching it on? I had YouTube in 4K and I definitely noticed particle effects blowing at times and trees slightly rustling. In such a dense environment having foliage blowing around drastically could be too chaotic and distracting. I'm not sure every environment needs to have wind blowing all the time, every time. The preview indicates a literal storm is coming, so she very well might be battling through other environments with more wind and movements in the trees. This very well might be the calm before the storm.
Looked cool but I kind of want them to play it like an actual player would. All these moves, flips, swapping weapons and using special attacks are cool and all but we know the average gamer is just gonna stand there spamming arrows. Maybe roll a few times lol
@Ralizah my thoughts exactly, it was very pretty but the scripted events were never its strong point and this reveal didn't really do it for me and what is it with these protagonists talking to themselves all the time? I just wish they'd have shown some real exploration
HZD is one of my favourite PS4 games so I still want to see more
This was stunning, an absolute delight. Purchase day 1 for me. Hope for this year release. WOW
I'm not even a fan of Horizon ZD but Horizon 2 looks incredible on all accounts. Graphics, animation, combat, verticality ... all mind blowing stuff, masterful presentation.
Some people have to be trolling here. 'Just more of the same, Uninspired' additions, the water isn't wet enough.. ' give me a break haha
🙈🙉🙊
(Though I agree she does talk too much. Never fond of that like in Tomb Raider games)
@NeonPizza I think we're too close to launch to have any major graphical changes, a 60fps mode (if this isn't it) will do but you can already see the performance saving measures such as most of the foliage not reacting to Aloy. Overall though it is an amazing looking game, especially now that I've seen it again on my 4K TV.
Combat looks a step up from the first, which was already good, they've taken some inspiration from Breath of the Wild which can only be a good thing. I do wish someone would come up with another way of navigating the environment other than magic vision but it is what it is
It's been a long time since a game made me go "WOW", but damn that looks incredible!
Think it's time to download and playthrough the first one again.
I'm stoked for the new exploration mechanics, and I hope they'll work perfects with the haptic feedback.
To me it looked the same as the first game, graphics a bit better, but it seemed slow and clunky. Also it reminded so much of Uncharted but worst snd looked like it played like another generic Sony third person action game. Wasn’t impressed. And I don’t know if it was the stream but I saw it jerking a lot too. I never did like the first game for the same reasons though. I’m more of an Uncharted fan. I find the story and script boring and a bit forced with Horizon.
@Kirbyboy92
Well they all use that word and you will hear it more with farcry 6 reveal tonight and during e3.
There is not much left to be innovative about.
When you been gaming for decades like me, nothing is really that new.
For me it’s more about getting drawn into the game and it’s mechanics and wanting to explore and complete the game.
@NeonPizza
I’m thinking c1 as well now not to sure.
Will wait until November when all the prices will drop by a few hundred pounds.
Watched a few bits of video, don't want to see too much lol, but from what I saw looks great. Will need to play the first one again soon I think, still got the dlc to go through as well. I'm going to try and play it after I finish returnal and resi I think. Hopefully it releases this year but I'm thinking maybe early next year.
@JapaneseSonic Oh I have a feeling it might!
Some gamers are never happy and like to take a large ***** on everything. HFW looks brilliant and brilliantly fun to play, that really should be enough for the average gamers but apparently not.
😒
Looks amazing but then I didn't expect anything less.
Wonder when we'll get to see what the PS4/Pro version looks like? I assume it'll be similar but less shiny/lower res.
Looks stunning. Sony gonna blow it out of the water barely into the first year.
This looks beautiful, a little bit of fps drop but I'm sure that will be fixed before release, this is a sony exclusive so I have fill faith in it considering their track record in recent years with AAA games
Damn I can't wait for this
It looks amazing ! Can't wait to discover the open world because the demo felt very linear and scripted but that's alright.
I have some minor gripes with it that won't impact much my enjoyment of the game, first is the character lighting, as some people have pointed out, it's a bit too much, her hair is constantly backlit, it's a bit jarring when she starts moving around or traversing shadows areas, I get that the character needs to look nice and visually clear but I feel like it might be a bit too strong. Minor grip.
The other one is the same one I had with the first game, Aloy just talk too much, not just during gameplay, she just has a tendency to say out loud what you the player is supposed to do next, you don't even have the time to think about it that she says ''oh look I should go there and do that'' yeah I know. Anyway, minor gripes !
Other than that, the game world looks stunning ! The underwater environment aswell.
The improvement of melee combat and the mention of ''combos'' have me quite a bit excited !
Traversal seems a lot better than the first one aswell ! It had the tendency to look absolutely beautiful but quite static, here less so.
The facial animations are way better aswell ! I wonder if Kojima Production helped develop tools for that or if Guerilla came up with their own.
Anyway, quite excited about this one, hopefully it turns out great !
From the PS5 footage its clear they're using SSR and not Ray Tracing which, for a cross gen title is a little disappointing to be honest.
Something seemed off with the visuals, like a plastic toy look to everything from the foliage to Aloys face and the weird glow around her head when in 3rd person.
Its early code and while the game looks very dense, something seems odd with the visuals for me even with it looking good otherwise.
I'll absolutely be getting it regardless as im sure it'll still be good regardless.
@Kirbyboy92 It's typical AAA gaming industry BS.
Make pretty game with standard mechanics.
Hype pretty game as innovative because of pretty graphics.
Release pretty game to calls of "masterpiece" and "Goty", and high metacritic scores.
profit.
Have people forget about game.
Repeat process.
Don't get me wrong, I like these kinds of games, I'm just tired of the nonsense that surrounds them.
If you want a guaranteed to get wasted drinking game. Go through these comments and take a drink every time you find someone who exclusively talks about how the game looks.
And if you want to stay sober, take a drink every time you see someone talk about mechanics and gameplay.
@NeonPizza
I currently use a 65” Samsung q90r.
The dilemma I have is the tv is amazing in hdr because of the nits allowed in QLED against OLED. It also punches those colours out to a good pop.
Think I need to see the c1 etc in action in a demo situation before I decide.
Great visuals! I hope it will deliver! Just the elephants remind me very much of those in the Lord of the Rings 🙃 ah, who cares! This game will be amazing and I am not just saying that because I am Dutch 😜
Watched it again this morning in 4k with the headphones on and it looks and sounds amazing. The general look of the game is that really boosted colour saturation which really makes it pop. It does look like Aloy is lit differently from the scene though so gives her that superimposed sort of look but it doesn't take away from how good it looks in motion.
Really looking forward to getting hold of this when they are ready to release it. I'm definitely happy to wait so we get the very best experience.
@The_New_Butler Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of this checks notes "gameplay reveal".
@S1ayeR74 I have to agree with you about the story with the first game, I thought it was really poor and it felt like you were doing boring side quests for drones.
I did enjoy the gameplay though, the combat was pretty fun imo. I liked the game but I didn’t love it.
Well done.
Can we have a new Killzone now, please?
Looking forward to seeing how that glider plays into the open world exploration - that and the advanced climbing. I was a bit disappointed to see that we'll still be looking for certain "climbable" areas, but as long as they're really common then I suppose it will be fine. Grappling hook also looks cool for some fast-paced fights and traversal. And of course, they had no choice but to update the close combat mechanics because those were dire in the first game, but still it's a very welcome change.
The underwater sequences seem to get a lot of hype, and while they do look beautiful for sure, I'm not a fan of underwater levels at all so to be honest I hope they're infrequent or optional.
It remains to be seen if the PS4 development will restrict the PS5 version, but at this stage of the PS5's life it is to be expected that the game will be cross-generation, so I can't complain really.
All in all, I'm very excited for this. Also, I'm not sure when I started to really like Aloy as a character but when I saw her just then I was unexpectedly stoked.
@Richnj well it's a gameplay ''reveal'' so it isn't a deep dive in the systems that make up the game. It's a short vertical slice that pretty much plays like the first game but with some added and polished stuff there isn't much to be talked about or speculated. And there's plenty of people commenting on how the game plays !
@Katsuhono OK, calm down.
Reveal literally means to show something people haven't seen. You don't even need a deep dive, a reveal implies it's showing you the new gameplay, or at least how the game will be different or the same as the first. Presumably, gameplay you can discuss.
And besides that, the industry calling videos gameplay this and gameplay that, while showing off cinematics and scripted events is actually a real issue.
It's the equivalent of having a story trailer and showing nothing but explosions.
(ps, I like how we've gone from "it's a visual trailer, there's nothing to talk about gameplay wise" to "there's lots of people talking about gameplay" as if the latter doesn't prove my original grievance to be valid)
@The_New_Butler I agree it needs to be played to be appreciated. I just don't agree it needs to be played to be discussed.
The graphics are insane even though it's cross-gen titles and the gameplay looks improved from the first game, can't wait for this game 😃
Also the music really add to the game atmosphere, from only ambience sound when there's no action, to aggressive music when aloy fight the boss enemy. If guerilla can make the game works with way less ui compared to the first game, this game will be perfect.
@Richnj Don't ''calm down'' me dude, I haven't insulted you or anything, no need for that kind of tone. I'm not accusing you or attacking you in anyway, we're just talking.
''I like how we've gone from "it's a visual trailer, there's nothing to talk about gameplay wise" to "there's lots of people talking about gameplay"
I'm not the same person you were talking to earlier, everyone who doesn't entirely agree with you has the exact same view on the subject, I'm just giving my honest opinion, I've seen quite a lot of people here and online talking about how the game plays, that's all.
And I agree with you that overall we talk too much about graphics over things that really matters in games, Gameplay being the first victim of that but at the same time a gameplay reveal of a sequel is not gonna give you a lot of meat. Because it is just that, a reveal just like a game reveal doesn't actually reveal much usually apart from the title and a quick look. Look at the Elden Ring reveal trailer.
What I want to know from the game is if they'ce fixed the crafting issues I had with the first game, if the side quests are a bit more involved, how is the melee combat really like, how about player customisation but all of these comes later because this is just a first look at how Forbidden West plays. We'll see more later.
This is the only open world game I am excited about. It looks better then the cookie cutter garbage Ubisoft churns out.
Man, all the ‘glass half empty’ comments on this thread... who sucked out all your fun?!
Graphically impressive, loads more verticality and speedy traversal options in what is evolved gameplay versus the first title - plus standout new machine designs - not bad for a 14 minute slice. I’m excited to know and see more, and i can’t wait to play.
I was not keen. I did not like the fact they seemed to make it very cartoonish. Both the colour palate and the increase in all the neon overlays looked garish. Also movement was janky, you left no marks on the world, clipping was poor and the trampoline hair seemed worst. But Its early days so hope to see improvements.
The animations, music and combat are sublime. Can't wait for this.
@Katsuhono I said calm down because you put an exclamation mark at the end. I thought you were shouting.
"I'm not the same person you were talking to earlier"
I know, that's why I put that in brackets. Rather than being a direct response to you, it was just a musing about the difference in rebuttals.
"And I agree with you that overall we talk too much about graphics over things that really matters in games, Gameplay being the first victim of that"
Exactly. And all I'm advocating for is a world where gameplay isn't a victim.
The only issue with games like this is having to unlock all abilities again which makes no sense in terms of continuity. I hope Aloy already has a good grasp (if not fully upgraded) abilities from Zero Dawn then players can concentrate on unlocking new abilities/weapons etc.
Look way better than Horizon Zero Dawn ! Impressive !
@Residentsteven I agree, as much as I love the story of the first one it was hard for me to get through that game because I found the open world to be so boring.
@Royalblues Good for newbie gamers because she's basically always telling them what to do next...
@JapaneseSonic it's like they've never seen anybody with the sun on their back.
It's extremely oversaturated. I don't like the artstyle.
@NeonPizza
If I go OLED I will probably go Sony A80J Sony seem to have great motion handling as well.
@NeonPizza
Must admit the C1 seems to have it all this year.
Like 4 hdmi 2:1 sockets with full support.
Any idea why Sony in a top A90J expensive tv only have two hdmi ports like this and do not even support yet VRR and ALLM.
I did hear they use an off the shelf medtik chip but LG use their own chips which of course are better and easier to control with firmware etc.
Visually stunning! Didn't feel like it was "held back" at all by also being on last-gen consoles. I guess we'll see what this will look like on PS4 by comparison.
@playstation1995 other games look so bad after watching this..amazing
I loved every minute of the gameplay and even the cutscenes too!
Here's hoping they show off more gameplay and FINALLY the exact release date during Summertime, whether it's thru E3, Summer Games Fest, or their own thing.
(Yes I know they won't be at E3 or doing their own E3 event)
@Richnj lol, it makes you wonder why people get so upset with pre rendered reveal trailers that show no gameplay. That's what everyone secretly wants most.
@LordSteev “...played it too safe and very politicly correct. I expect they'll do the same with this one. No blood, no short skirts, etc...”
Your eyes on forbidden chest
@Jimmer-jammer
Crafty wordplay! In my perfect world, yes!
@LordSteev pretty lame and worse, pretty late but I couldn’t resist. Man, as much as I’m enjoying Biomutant I’m really itching to get back to Skyrim. They’re different enough that I’m probably gonna play them in tandem for a bit. What a game! Thanks again!
@Jimmer-jammer
Hey, give it to me straight, is Biomutant worth full price? I remember being very interested in it when I first heard of it, which was I think more than five years ago! Never tracked it closely enough to figure out what took them so long to finish it, but after all the time that passed, when it resurfaced recently it just didn't have the emotional punch it used to, or maybe that I used to.
Better late than never! Took me longer than I want to admit to even figure it out, lol. Some punctuation changes would have helped, (your-eyes-on, perhaps, so I'd have grouped them together in my head faster) but hey, I'll not turn down a puzzle mini-game for free on PSquare!
As always, if you need any info or help, just let me know! (In fact, this thread was so old I thought that might be what you were after!) Have a good holiday weekend!
@LordSteev to give it to you straight, I’d say wait for a sale. Its totally worth it to me full price but there is a quirkiness and roughness that won’t be for everyone. It is, for better or worse, 100% committed to its vision.
It’s all about exploring and finding loot, which can be crafted into weapons and equipment, and upgrading your mutant in order to further explore the hostile environments and earn more loot. There has been an impressive amount of variety in the tasks I’ve completed, though they’re all very basic. For me, the sum is far greater than the individual parts, and I’ve found a rhythm in exploring, fighting, looting, scrapping and selling and crafting that is quite engaging. I’ve largely discarded the narrative thus far but it’s not really this game’s aim. It more sets the framework for you to live a cautionary tale as told to children...it’s a weird game and kind of difficult to explain, but if you’re ever in the mood for something a little strange and enjoy going off the beaten path at your own pace and exploring, it could be worth a go at a good price.
I will be sure to ask if I need to, thanks! I’m currently working towards buying a house. Actually, I do have a question. Do you happen to know an area where I can find pearls? I’d like to make lots of magick potions.
@Jimmer-jammer
That sounds fun, really. Sort of the way I played Skyrim, in fact. I'd head in the direction of a quest on foot, and then get waylaid by any markers visible on my way there. It was almost better than strictly following a story path, since it gave you little pockets of time where you were creating your own adventure. Think I'll wait for a sale, though, just because I already feel like a hamster on a treadmill with the backlog I've created for myself since discovering the PS Store.
Pearls. You need to shuck clams in shallow water, but as you may have discovered, most just have clam meat, which is pretty much worthless. The real trick here is to find another ingredient that does the same thing. Especially if you don't have a house yet, I'd try mixing everything with everything else possible at an alchemest station. You lose a lot, but it's weight anyway, and you will always find more. Sometimes, you'll end up making something really out there with both positive and negative traits. Once you discover the trait, you'll automatically know it for good. Sometimes the sell value on accidents can drain a merchants cash for the day with only one potion! Once you buy a house and furnish it, your alchemy station comes with a pouch that is basically bottomless. I ended up trying to keep 100 of everything, and the pouch never became full!
But you asked about Pearls, I digress. Do you have the special edition version? Because if you do, you'll eventually travel to Solsthiem. Lots of clamshells in Solsthiem, and unlike mainland Skyrim, most of them contain Pearls! As you try different ingredient mixtures, though, pearls will become an afterthought. Many much less rare things can do all the things pearls can. Sorry, no short answers here!
@LordSteev sorry for the late reply, life and all that...yeah I think I do have the special/complete edition. I actually ended up going to Morrowind for a bit without realizing that I was doing DLC until trophy’s started popping haha It was bothering me that I bought the recipe for magick potions but couldn’t buy the necessary ingredients. Solsthiem it is, then!
I didn’t know that you can experimentally mix at the alchemy table, that’s cool. I thought you needed recipes. I’ll definitely be getting my witch on!
I enjoy the lengthy replies - your passion is infectious and I appreciate you taking the time to reply so thoughtfully. Also, I think Lydia somehow died as she’s been m.i.a. now for a bit and I’m not 100% sure when or how that happened. I do get a little wild with my spell casting and sword swinging.
