The Japanese PlayStation Blog has shared new details on upcoming PlayStation 5 and PS4 RPG Tales of Arise, detailing how much better the Bandai Namco title will be on Sony's current-gen console. For starters, anyone who buys the PS4 version will receive a free upgrade to the PS5 edition when they purchase the latest system. The hardware will shorten the length of time it takes to enter a battle thanks to the PS5 SSD, and two different game modes prioritise either performance or resolution. One will opt for 60 frames-per-second while the other is all about 4K visuals.
The blog post then goes on to reveal that Haptic Feedback within the DualSense controller will be supported and Game Help will be taken advantage of in its entirety. Lots of new screenshots have also been released as part of the update, some of which we have embedded below.
If you don't already know, Tales of Arise will be out for PS5 and PS4 on 10th September 2021, and you can watch almost eight minutes of gameplay through the link. The video focuses on both combat and exploration, but one feature that will be missing is multiplayer. Game producer Yusuke Tomizawa explained it was dropped so that more time could be spent on the plot and cast. "So this game is really a standalone game where one person really enjoys the drama and the overall story of the game, we don't really have any plans currently for a multiplayer mode. But on the other side, we did put a lot of focus on how the characters work together and how they cooperate in the battle and how that plays out in game mechanics."
One other key detail is that the title will be fairly linear — an open world format was explored but Tomizawa thought focusing on linearity would be the "best way to deliver that gameplay to the player". Are you looking forward to playing Tales of Arise in September? Await your turn in the comments below.

4K is a massive waste of resources, especially for games with this visual style. I have a 4K TV but have no issue dropping the resolution.
Also, we’ve seen games with these setting where it’s mainly for PS4 reasons, where setting to 60fps on PS5 see a dynamic res that’s sitting around native 4K anyway.
Nice, the graphics looks great, I'm in if the story is good
@OM1993 4K is overated, I have 4K tv but I prefer 60 fps and RT rather than 4K, I'm okay with 1080 or 1440 resolutions.
@OM1993 I think the reason we rarely see 4K with 60 fps games is because they're just too "heavy" for console, even high-end $1000 nvidia card needs ai upscaling trick (dlss) to get good framerate.
With ps5 pro maybe we can get true 4K, 60 fps, and RT in the future
@OM1993
Why do you think XSX would and PS5 not? the architecture is so different, and most other native next generation games do not show any noticeable advantage on either device.
There is an impression, due to the ease of increasing FPS on last gen games, that XSX has a significant advantage in this regard for current gen too, whereas analysis shows this not to be the case at all.
@OM1993 Different studios can get different things out of their games, just because one developer can hit 4K 60fps on one game does not mean suddenly it is possible for all games going forward. There could be something in one game which uses extra resources preventing it hitting 4k 60fps consistently to make the game stable to play. There could be dozens of reasons for this too, and that was just one example.
Really liking how many games this generation have performance modes available on next-gen hardware.
Really REALLY liking the visual style here. September 10th can't come soon enough.
@OM1993 Scarlet Nexus runs at 4K @ 60 FPS on Series X and PS5. At 1440p @ 60 FPS on Series S and 1080p @ 30 FPS on base Xbox One and PS4. Unsure if there's any difference on the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro.
I'm actually the other way round. Myself I'd rather have 4K than FPS any day. I know people given the choice would rather have higher FPS than graphics but not me myself no. I have never ever questioned a games FPS, it's never even been a thought process in my mind. I've always just played games the way they are.
Oh, yes! I've been dying for a decent JRPG on the PS5. Can't wait!
All the 4k 60 8k 360,7289p 96 f p s etc etc. doesn't make a difference to me when it comes to whether or not I want to play the game.
The Tales of/ Tales series is always a must play in my book. The new style looks good, the older style was great too.
Yay JRPGs!
@OM1993 No worries, we have all been there before. Thank you for being so decent about it, a rarity in this day and age.
while it won't stop me from eventually buying the game (still debating which system for now) the lack of MP is kinda a downer.
@OM1993 neither Far Cry 6 going to do it. 4k is just what is displayed, not the render resolution. developers just using loose terms to advertise their games.
@OM1993 common sense and ubisoft history. Valhalla also was advertise as 4k, yet in reality it almost never reached it.
@OM1993 are you sure it is Native 4k? or just again output resolution and they are playing with words-terms?
@OM1993 what is BC game?
@OM1993 Thanks.
I still have to research this as I am not familiar with the term despite being a gamer since the NES days.
Nice to hear, will definitely grab the PS4 version when on sale and upgrade to PS5 for free .
@Nalverus multilayer should be the absolute no1 sacrifice when it comes to this type of game. Completely happy it was sacrificed to focus on story
@Sladey69 replied to a two month old comment but...eh what the heck.
the point is that the series is known, at this point, for its RPG multiplayer with good story, gameplay, mechanics, and length.
we lost something, not traded it off. tales games already HAD great stories.
