A brand new entry in the long running Mana series is now in development for consoles. The project was confirmed by producer Masaru Oyamada during the property's 30th anniversary livestream, but it's still early days, so there's nothing to actually show yet.
In any case, this is pretty big news. It's been over seven years since there was a new Mana title, and over 14 years since there was a new Mana title not built for mobile. But the recent success of various Mana remakes and remasters (including the very enjoyable Trials of Mana on PlayStation 4) has paved the way for a fresh instalment.
Hopefully development goes smoothly, and it isn't too long until we're playing through this brand new adventure.

trials of mana
not trails š
@arra1213 - Though it would be the perfect name for a Legend of Heroes crossover!
@arra1213 I blame all the new Trails announcements!
I hope it's better than Dawn of Mana on PS2. That game was seriously bad.
Trials of Mana remake for PS4 was my first encounter with the series and it was pretty solid. Iād play a new one for sure.
This is exciting!
Heres hoping for a revival of soul blazer next.
Another Seiken Densetsu getting made pleases me.
Fantastic News! I know it'll be a while but it's nice to know that something new is coming in the future. Trials (not Trails) deserves more love and glad it's getting it!
Hopefully they can create a game that contains the heart and spirit of the older ones, but with contemporary high end graphics, gameplay, level design, dialogue, ect. Trials was enjoyable, but extremely basic and bare bones.
@Unlucky13 Same here, always been tempted by the franchise but the lack of modern gameplay features always turns me off.
@KidBoruto I enjoyed the games a lot on the SNES. But that was 25 years and six console generations ago. You would think that they would be able to make a better contemporary game by now. I would love to have a party based fantasy RPG that had up to date graphics and gameplay and wasn't set in a miserable, dark dystopia like so many of them seem to be these days.
I look forward to it. The one thing I always liked about the Mana games was how bright and colourful everything was which IMHO set them apart from other JRPGS.
I'll believe it when I see it.
What i want is the next Chrono game and or Remakes/remasters.
I cannot understand for the life of me, why the mana series is getting this much atention. I never found it to be especially compelling.
@Nem The appeal (at least at the start with secret, trials and legend) is that these games are colorful, gorgeous, fun coop action rpgs. Also, Seiken Densetsu 3 was really impressive at the time of its release in 1995.
@Nem I don't think there will be a new Chrono game ever again. I mean, a lot of people hate Chrono Cross just for not being Chrono Trigger... There's no way a new game would surpass the very high expectations CT fans have and devs already tried several times to emulate CT with mitigated success (I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear comes to mind).
@Turbodream I really don't think those games are anything like the Chrono series, which is based on time travel or dimension travel. Basically having multiple versions of the same overworld with different events you can travel between. That is what makes the Chrono games.
I mean, i personally don't care about the expectations of CT purists. Chrono cross is amazing and i'd love to see more. Honestly, it's not that hard to make a better one now just due to how tech has evolved since the last one.
Heck, i'd be happy enough with remakes/remasters atm.
@Nem Maybe you think those two games are nothing like CT but Tokyo RPG factory made those games as homage to CT. The gameplay is similar enough to evoke playing CT on a SNES back in 1995.
If you want a really good JRPG about time travel, you need to play Radiant Historia. There's no better alternative.
Nice!! A new JRPG.
Always down, really appreciate companies who make these type of games.
@Turbodream Yes, i know. I have the 3DS version of RH.
But those by tokyo factory are just invoking the top view and a bit of the combat of CT.
That is not the Chrono series. A new entry would be fully 3D. Cross was 3D models with 2D backgrounds and 3D battles.
Besides those Tokyo factory rpg games really had a bunch of issues holding them down design wise. Just making a top down view with chibi characters does not a Chrono game quality make.
