Geoff Keighley once again managed to end one of his gaming showcases with Death Stranding, this time detailing what the PlayStation 5 Director's Cut has to offer when it launches next month. We've already been treated to a brief overview, but the trailer embedded above really gets into the nitty-gritty.
Footage begins with a deep dive into the new traversal options that allow you to fling your cargo across the world, and then transitions into options that make the game easier to play. We then get a brief look at the shooting range, how to repeat boss fights, and new Photo Mode options. Next up are the new missions, which emulate Metal Gear Solid a heck of a lot. That music is MGS in all but name. The trailer finishes with the new racing mode, which looks like a ton of fun.

I love the look of some of this new gear. Just want to import my save from the end of the campaign and muck about to be honest.
Photo mode? Woop de doo! 🙄🙄
I only care about the new facility - and that depends how much actual "new truths unfold" in there.
WoW I barely can wait! New game plus please? I
This feels like Kojima admitting that he screwed up the first game. It looks so much more games now, which I like, but the original release was sold as a wholly unique and different experience, this one feels like he’s trying to appeal to a mass audience and a lot of the gameplay that made it unique looks like it’s been trivialised somewhat.
Some of this stuff gives me massive MGS VR Missions vibes and I love it. Other parts feel like Kojima going "Oh alright, you complained about the game being too boring for you? Have some sh*t! Happy now?"
I'm not complaining though. Looking forward to a second playthrough.
@Jireland92 Yeah the jetpack stuff does make the game look much easier. Same thing for the rideable robot. I'm assuming it'll be a later game unlock though.
@huyi Try wrangling with UI options and trying to get shots in games without a photo mode and then you’ll see why it’s honestly a great addition.
Why is this PS5 only? There is absolutely nothing there that couldn't be sold as DLC for the PS4 version. Way to screw over those of us that actually supported the original game.
@The_New_Butler I tried my first Monster whilst playing Death Stranding (I’m clearly a sucker for product placement 😬). It’s nice.
Finished without all the new gimmicks. Seems like all these new gadgets are just removing all the challenge in the game and making it more flashy. Not interested in revisiting it.
These would have saved me hours in the first game. Oh well I had fun creating my zip line network
If this is PS5 only. I'm interested in seeing what visual enhancement they are bring to this version, and how it'll compare to the PC release.
@get2sammyb
I agree, it would be good to go in, fix up old deteriorated roads and ziplines etc. and try out the new toys. But I wouldn't want to fork out for it unless it was a whole new game. Does appear to have deviated from its original idea of encouraging the player to avoid fighting though.
Ha, almost looks like a completely different game but I like it.
None of these changes detract from the original game and the experience I had with it but if it tempts some new players to give it a try, well that's fine by me.
@fR_eeBritney
I almost tried it a few times myself, managed to hold off instant diabetes though 😆
I cannot wait. The VR missions!
Was that Moby Dick at the end of the video? Hmm 🤔
this might be tangential but the new mechanics they're adding have me really excited to see if the Death Stranding Speedrun is gonna get exciting again
cause seeing Sam leap long distances with the jet back really makes me think players are gonna look for new strats and exploits quickly
@feral1975 Diabetes Diaschemtes. The world is dark and full of terrors. Diabetes is the least of your/our worries. Live a little. Have a Monster. Full sugar - if you’re feeling dangerous 😁
I hope the stack of boxes on your back don't give you away as you crouch walk behind cover. "What was that? Oh just a walking stack of packages."
A lot of filler tbh...in a game that already had too much filler. I like the new ways for delivery. The missions look like challenge rooms I can probably do without. Training mode...replaying boss battles... I'm not sure worth the repurchase. This was already a great looking game on the pro...I'm not really seeing the ps5 version looking all that better tbh.
Pretty underwhelmed. But I guess there's the cumbersome slow racing and a trick animation...
I quite liked death stranding...but I think I'm personally ready for something new from Kojima.
@Bleachedsmiles There’s no repurchase necessary. The Director’s Cut is $10 if you own Death Stranding.
A lot of the stuff in this thing are what I originally thought Death Stranding was going to play like. Looked pretty cool but I have no interest in going back. I just don't have any interest in the delivery stuff which is still the heart of the game.
guh DAMN that's looking tasty. I thought Ghosts $45 AUD upgrade was a bit much for what we got and then you compare to what you get for $15 AUD for this and it looks even better.
I wonder if you can play the new missions having finished the game already, or if you have to start from the beginning
Still not played it got now 3 big PS4 PlayStation Exclusives left to play(it's taken me months and months to go through my back-log of games. Whichis a good thing) Might get this version then after playing Ghost of Tsushima now
I'll pick it up when it hits $20.
I get that Kojima is an "auteur" (in his view) but I would love for him to stop baiting players with fake gameplay and playing with expectations and using "HA, ART! as an excuse.
I'm so ready for Sony to drop him and throw their budget towards better japanese devs instead.
man this looks great.
the original game was well done and I loved it. wish all this was in the original lol.... I've only ever played one game more than once and I doubt this will be played again.
PS5 version looks amazing! I'll happily pay the $10 digital upgrade for now, and then buy the physical PS5 version in a few years to add to my collection.
