Marvel’s Avengers isn’t a bad game, it’s just a bit of a bland one. Fortunately, the game’s hotly anticipated War for Wakanda update looks set to add a little spice to the co-op brawler. Frankly, this looks absurdly large: there’s a new campaign, missions, villains, enemies, and even a fresh biome to explore. Of course, you’ll also be able to play as King T’Challa, as voiced by Christopher Judge.
The Black Panther himself looks like a lot of fun to play, with acrobatic attacks and traversal abilities. All of the added content comes alongside some major improvements to the core game, including a completely overhauled character customisation interface which seems like a total game changer. You can play all of the new content – apart from the introductory mission – either solo or co-op, too.
In truth, we’re not sure how long Square Enix will be able to sustain this kind of development pipeline for a game that hasn’t sold particularly well. The proof will be in the pudding, of course, but there’s a helluva lot packed into this add-on, and while the publisher will be banking on it bringing back enough players to flog some cosmetics, we’re sceptical of whether it’ll be able to release many more updates like this.
Still, you’ve gotta enjoy it while it lasts, eh?

I'm excited because despite all its many many flaws i do really like the game and its solid combat and unique characters but i really hope this "expansion" gives the game the solid endgame and grind it really needs, a 4 story add on with a new character is cool and all but if after that i'm back to grinding missions for rubbish loot then its failed in the long run.
Its funny for a live service game it does a very bad job at being a live service game, CD clearly don't know how to run a live service sadly and they really shouldn't have been the ones making the game. Other then overpriced skins the game fails at being the thing it wants to be.
Whenever I get close to deleting this behemoth of a game off of my dainty PS5 SSD, I get sucked back in by one of the updates. Some of the foes might be a bit bland, but the fighting is still pretty top-notch and I find it enjoyable enough to fire up on occasion. Looking forward to the all expenses paid trip to Wakanda.
@WallyWest Yeah. It should have really just been a story driven online co-op game. The story and everything else is over all fun and enjoyable. The live service part of the game just drags it down.
Always happy to jump back in for the story.
Anything else I don’t really care about.
They made a lot of improvements to the game and with each one, they made me want to play more and more. Then, before I decided to pull the trigger, they made an update so you can have multiples of the same character in a party. That is just too immersion breaking for me and killed all my intention to play this game.
@TheCollector316 there should be an option to only allow different characters in the game you're hosting. I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to implement.
I actually really enjoyed the base game, I think all these DLC would have been much better if they followed the same pathway, mostly single player, but with co-op mixed in. Instead of full on co-op. They're just such a grind. I'll definitely give this ago from a combat perspective though.
Looks great but a game does not get a lot of changes with me. I moved on this shows all this liveservice nonsense is a excuse to release a halfassed game.
Its shows me that always try to get away with releasing it with next to no content and see what happens. Use the playerbase as game tester and call it a liveservice game brilliant and we even pay for it.
There are only a few that pull it off right NMS was a succes in the end but the way it was released was really dissapointing. But they had their place fludded and a small team i can excuse that.
I even believe Ubisoft makes a mess of it a lot of the times and thats one of the more succesfull ones in my eyes. The bigger the title is the bigger the mess as well the bigger the developer the more leeway they get.
Looks terrific, can't wait to dive in today!
Marvel's Avengers is a game with great combat, but no rewarding loop. The only way to earn in game credits is through the Challenge Cards, but those have a maxed out amount. So unlike other GaaS there isn't really a way to earn the true in game currency to spend at the marketplace. Couple this with the lack of mission/scenic variation, no PvP(or PvEvP), lack of quality loot and most people feel no reason to keep playing it.

Lots of people I know can't even be bothered to redownload the game to try this out. Glad I didn't give in and buy, what a waste of a game and potential.
@Legacy2K as the others said, the problem was never with the campaign, which was great and that alone makes the single player content more than worth it.
@naruball Was it though? I heard the game only had 2 marvel villain bosses (which is shockingly poor, given the pool of choices they could have picked from) and enemies were repetitive.
@Legacy2K it most certainly was. You have to play it to get it. The enemies are repetitive if you play online for a couple of hours. But if you stick to the campaign (and the free DLC), you won't feel that way. I'd say give it a try when it's cheap enough for you. Personally, I loved the campaign and hate the online missions with passion (they're really boring and feel pointless).
The campaign has a lot of heart and the final level is all sorts of awesome. It feels like the game was made by true fans of the avengers and then Square Enix forced them to add something (online section with loot boxes) that they never cared for.
@tatsumi Same! No interest in the multiplayer content.
