Marvel's Midnight Suns Is XCOM Team's Take on the Superhero Universe

It’s mind boggling that no one can take the worlds biggest IP and make a good game.

I feel like this may be more of an Ultimate Alliance successor than X-Com. I'm down for either.

Made me cringe when they were all walking towards the camera super serious to metal music, trying way too hard imo.

Can any comic fan explain this "Midnight Suns" story line to me?

I own a lot of the Midnight Sons comics from the 90s which were Dr. Strange, Blaze, Vengeance, Blade and Morbius. No idea what this is or if it's related at all.

Sure, I’ll give this a spin. My knowledge of the Midnight Sons books ends with the Blade, Ghost Rider, and Morbius runs of the early 90’s, so seeing Wolverine and, ahem, Iron man in the trailer was a bit confusing. But I’m pretty sure I saw Illyana and Lilith as well so I’m game. Would be nice if they dipped into some of the weird Marvel horror stuff from the 70’s too, but I’ll take what I can get.

@rjejr Yup, I thought of the 90’s comics as soon as I saw the title so the trailer has left me a bit confused. Looks like there are some connections though, like Lilith.

The game has Magik, I’m instantly sold.

@Amnesiac Well that was Sons and this is Suns so when I realized that I knew it wasn't the same but Ghost Rider and Blaze did make me think they were going for a connection with the Midnight.

I read a lot of comics around 75-95 but when my teenage son tells me me what's been going on the last 20 years a lot of times I just kind of shake my head in dismay. That's not a comment on wokeness, I don't care, but Hulk being a Demon with unlimited hell power is not the Hulk. And any storyline involving Spider-Man clones. 😂

I figured this must be based on something, even if tangentially like Ultimate Alliance 3 and the MCU. My kid just started college this week so he's not around to ask him.

Didn't the dev say in the interview this was a RPG? If it's tactical isometric, as much as I love Xcom, nah thanks!

I'm not a fan of games where they take an ip and they put "original" characters in it but then i remember PS2 Marvel Nemesis and how much i played and enjoyed that game also i really like tactical rpgs so i want to watch the gameplay waiting for the best.

@dudeAmarillo That’s one character and a fantastic game. They’ve been incapable of making an Avengers game.

I kinda dig the vibe of this. If the gameplay looks good i'll probably get it. This looks like edgy 90's Marvel cheese which is something I can't help but be nostalgic for, and it at least looks to be going for its own thing separate from chasing after the MCU.

Now give me Moon Knight, he'd be perfect here.

I'll wait for the gameplay. These trailers really do nothing for me.

I know it's a real minority opinion but I am so sick of Marvel in the gaming space. It dominates everything and quite frankly, it's NEVER good. (With perhaps the exception of Spiderman) I am just really getting burned out on this franchise being in all the entertainment spaces ever.

I gave up on reading comics in the late 90s when the cost became too much - moving to NYC from Kentucky puts a strain on one's budget - but I still watchall the movies and many of the TV shows. And the rate the video game industry is going I may give up on that soon as well, too many delays and I can't find a PS5. Once both my kids have moved away I may just watch Netflix. 😝 Not like I didn't have a good run, I owned Pong and Atari, and I was programming my own games in the early 80s. So it's been over 40 years. Sure games are much better now, but I don't think I've played anything truly new since Pikmin on GameCube. OK Splatoon, but I can't keep up.

OK that was morose, sorry, you caught me in a mood. I'm going to go blow up my 1 person inflatable pool now and float away.

I feel nothing. Need gameplay.
