NBA 2K22 will add some meat to the bones of its WNBA mode The W this year, offering more variety during off-days – including the ability to train with some of the league’s biggest stars. You’ll be able to hook up with the likes of Candace Parker, A’ja Wilson, and Nneka Ogwumike in a variety of different match-ups, with Badge Points on the line.
It sounds like you’ll be able to build a network, and as you befriend different players, you’ll be able to call upon them to play alongside you during team-based events against other superstars. Of course, you’ll also be able to partake in regular training drills with your coaches, as well as tackle short scrimmages to boost your relationship with your teammates.
As reported earlier in the week, there’ll be unique Seasonal updates added to the mode, while there’s also the promise of exclusive clothing, signature animations, and much more. Clearly this hasn’t been the primary focus of 2K Sports’ efforts, but it does sound like there’s enough here to sink your teeth into if you’re a fan of the WNBA.
Of course, one thing to note is that The W is only available on next-gen consoles. While you will be able to play WNBA match-ups on PS4, the MyPlayer-style mode will remain locked to Sony’s new system. Furthermore, it doesn’t sound like there are any plans to unify genders in the City right now.

Man, you really need that extra horsepower to have Japanese lip-syncing and female basketball players. Whoever knew SSDs were so inclusive.
Honestly, it is time to cut the cord on PS4One versions of the majority of games, lets move on to PS5 and Series X.
@nessisonett What's next, a game that only has running mechanics on PS5?
@Dman10 Yeah, let's make games exclusive to next-gen consoles while people are still struggling to get said next gen consoles. Great idea.
EA and 2K clearly use the next gen consoles as an excuse why they can't add features that have been there the entire previous 2 generations.
@Dman10 whilst i agree with you to a certain degree we have to acknowledge that there is still a huge last gen market..in fact untill ps5's etc become common place i would say that "last gen" is still very much this gen and this gen is very much a niche market at this point in time...
@get2sammyB you guys going to be doing a Future Games Show wrap up?
@HotGoomba its like you’ve never seen a new console generation come into play before.
Yet PS1-PS2, PS2-PS3, PS3-PS4 all switched to exclusives. Why should PS5 be different?
I get the argument both sides but you can’t be calling people out for it, makes you seem like the tool tbh. The evidence is there.
@Jacko11 Yeah that's fair, but I still think that it's a l i t t l e too early, third-party developers should wait at least another year before they make major franchises next-gen only.
@DrJames right? frostbite this and frostbite that. meanwhile the game is still utter *****! i'm looking at you madden!
Nobody cares about this mode. NOBODY.
@nessisonett it's their lower center of gravity. makes rendering an absolute nightmare. (I guess??)
It’s a shame they are locking features by gens but I will pick this up in a few years once I have one of the newer systems. Love seeing more focus on women’s sports in gaming. Would be the only mode I play.
