Gran Turismo 7’s refreshed single player campaign aims to capture the spirit of old games – in all but one area. As noted in small print on the PlayStation Blog, you’ll need an “Internet connection” in order to enjoy the solo experience, as well as its car collecting GT Café mode and Livery Editor. Presumably this game is going to be quite light if you don’t have your console online.
It’s not massively surprising, of course, because GT Sport was the same – however, that was very much billed as an online game from the outset. Some fans will be wondering why they can’t enjoy the single player campaign without an Internet connection – especially if it operates independently from the multiplayer modes.
Presumably this is something Polyphony Digital will have to discuss in more detail prior to the title’s 4th March release date, because while most people have their consoles connected to the Internet these days, this is rarely a requirement that goes down well among enthusiasts. We’ll keep you updated.

I think the constant online connection for single player campaigns needs to stop. The only reason to do it is data collection for comparison with others. It should be optional at best and let those of us that don't care about what others are doing opt out.
Ridiculous to have an constant online connection for a single player game. Should be the players choice to keep the online connection if they want to.
That's just stupid. Everything needs an online connection these days. My mother got a new oven that needed to be connected to WiFi.
I have a stable internet connection, but there are several days a year when the internet it down for a couple of hours, even up to a day at times. Last year I wanted to play MGS5 when my internet was down, I couldn't even boot it up.
What is this? An Ubisoft game?
And just like that it goes from day one to a no buy!! Terrible practice - if at the end of its online life they changed the necessity for online I wouldn't mind so much!! But we all know how this one ends!!
Wtf is wrong with polyphony studio, just make the single player offline, why it has to be online? 😕
There's no way I buy this game at full price even if the game is good, I'll buy it at the second or third discount on psn.
This report is inaccurate. If you read the blog post it only states that the specific features marked with an asterisk require an internet connection. Nowhere does it state the entire campaign mode requires a continuous connection.
Non-issue as far as I'm concerned. People getting worked up about something that's only going to get more and more widespread.
Campaign mode has an asterisk next to it. Maybe to save progress? Could do with more info.
Yeah I dont understand why people complain about this still, whether you like it or not its going to become the normal for future gaming, so accept it now or forever complain about it
You'd think they would learn from the mistakes of GT Sport
Hopefully it will turn out to be inaccurate
Nothing more frustrating than the servers being down meaning you can't play the game, even when you only wanted to play offline anyway
Nintendo Switch games don't require online for single player. The other Sony first party Games don't require online for single player. It's unnecessary and uncalled for.
If this was GT Sport 2 it'd feel different, but this game is being billed as GT 7, and therefore single player should be offline if people choose it that way. With Forza 8 not coming out for a year Sony have an open goal here with the racing simulator game for next-gen. Having online as a requirement for single player would turn that open goal into an own goal
@Uromastryx how about no, why should we accept it? You realise as the consumer we have the ability to change the course of action, just look at Horizon Forbidden West recently for example
They’ve already said there will be weekend cups, so I’m presuming some type of game as a service element. Which is annoying to say the least.
Removed - unconstructive
Does any part of the game not require an Internet connection? Even tracks like Trial Mountain have an asterix?
I'm genuinely surprised some people are getting mad at the people getting mad over this. Do you guys not want to have a way of accessing the game you just spent $60 or $70 on if your internet craps out? Does it really bother you that much when people want to make PlayStation games better?
Forza Horizon 4 (yes, I'm bringing up an Xbox game) didn't require a constant internet connection for its campaign. What is so special about GT7 that it requires it (or, maybe a better question, DESERVES it) aside from constantly acquiring data from its players?
Also, this could be a case where you only need to be online once in order to activate it, and then you can access it offline from then on. But, on the box art, it specifically says "internet required for most functionality", so I doubt it. Sony needs to clear this up ASAP.
@rjc-32 ''We’re aware that long-time fans of the Gran Turismo series strongly desired the return of the GT Campaign mode*, and now, having seen the trailer''
It's right there in the blog post.
@carlos82 that's great about horizon....but its not the same thing, and this is genuine question because I'm am curious has there ever been a game that required always online reversed their decision regardless of the complaining ??
I do not have to be online to play Forza Horizon 4 or the new Forza Horizon 5 campaign if my internet goes down.
Is this something new or Just Sony becoming the last generation Microsoft.
How it has all changed this generation.
Plus FH5 £50 only thank you for Series X.
You getting mugged off again by Sony.
So once the servers get shut down the game becomes useless
This needs to stop. Seriously, we can't let them get away this time, maybe the backlash will make them backtrack. And considering GT 5 and GT 6 online servers just lasted like 4-5 years each, this game will probably be dead in no time with the chip shortage crisis and PS5's stock problem.
@JapaneseSonic I’m tried of it man it’s ok to get on PlayStation when they actually doing something super bad to hurt gamers but the fake outrage over little things Meaningless things.
I was on the fence with this. Now I'm not interested. Stupid idea, so the game will become useless in a few years.
On a more serious note, having been a Sony guy for PS3 and PS4 era, I noticed changes and definitely the PS4 the business changed.
They were not like their tv division making silly decisions and slipping third into tv division behind LG and Samsung. They were, excuse this really for the players the gamer.
But with the PS5 they seem to be sort of subtle different getting slightly like the tv division of their business.
The question as I don’t know, have they changed like the top end leadership of the gaming division or sort of been joined with other departs like the tv division? They seem not the same as the late PS3 and PS4 era Sony.
@JapaneseSonic This is not performative outrage, because this is something to be genuinely concerned about. Until they say otherwise, you quite literally will not be able to play single-player content you just spent money on if your internet goes out or if something goes wrong on Polyphony's or Sony's end. And that's also without bringing up people who have limited data caps. Like you said, it may be a small number of people who are affected by this, but I still fully think it's worth putting under a microscope and criticizing. It's not meaningless.
As I don't have an internet connection, they're down one purchase from me.
@Uromastryx same principle as far as I'm concerned, as for the other part I honestly don't know but I'm pretty certain there'll be many games which don't have required online due to the reactions towards others. Xbox themselves backed down from it for their console
Is this forced online data collection the community engagement Jim Ryan was talking about on Thursday?
@JapaneseSonic maybe, at least when servers aren't going down or indeed my own internet connection. What about in the years to come when the servers for this are shut down? GT5 and GT6 are long since dead in this regard and I won't even mention Driveclub.
Simple fact is I can think of many reasons why a single player mode shouldn't be always online, I can't think of one as to why it should be
It's a point of concern if people can't enjoy the game without an internet connection, given that there are many places and many circumstances where online connections are unavailable or spotty at best. That being said, there's nothing specific to go on beyond five words and an asterisk at the bottom of a 1,000 word blog post. It would be nice if folks would wait until more information is available before charging into battle loaded for bear.
@The_New_Butler Some people like to play older games in the future and without the servers in tact thats not a option. Plus sometimes its not a option if its not available.
Pre-order cancelled and sold my PS5. I’m not playing anything that requires me to have my console connected to the internet. Super Mario World on the SNES is amazing and doesn’t require this crap. Done with this nonsense. I’m out. Never touching a PlayStation product again. Hopefully watchdog report on this and force Sony to change their horrendous anti consumer thinking. Disgusting company.
Gran turismo is dead honestly, it's not the same as it used to be back in the day, this is anti consumer and horible!
"Presumably this game is going to be quite light if you don’t have your console online."
How light are we talking?
@rjc-32 regardless if it's certain modes or not, most of the game offline will not work without a internet connection
@PhhhCough the title screen LOL that's all you are gonna get! 😂😂😂
No offline mode=no buy
Believe it or not, but many people in “developed” countries still don’t have internet access, and many more don’t have high speed. Maybe it won’t significantly effect sales of the game, but it still sucks to leave these people out.
@JapaneseSonic It's not really the same thing though is it? If I buy a book and in five years the words disappear? I collect games - not shiny beer coasters...
All this is kind of missing the point, it's not hard for Sony to make it available, give your loyal fan base options is all I'm saying
What possible benefit do I get as the player from requiring a constant online connection for a single player campaign? It's all downside and no upside.
I was so looking forward to this game as a lapsed GT fan from the PS1 and PS2 days who truly thought this was shaping up to be a triumphant return to form but then they throw this spanner in the works.
I refuse to buy any game whose existence is completely reliant on an internet connection, hence why I have no interest in online multiplayer only games.
They need to come clean and tell us whether the single player mode can be fully playable offline without limitations, if not then I will sadly have to pass on this game out of principle.
@JapaneseSonic More so than a meal and a game - they are both forms of entertainment at least...the point being, why does Sony 'need' to make it online only (if indeed that is the case, we still don't know), why exclude people? It's a slightly less sinister form of DRM that Microsoft, rightly, got crucified for!
Can people just relax until Polyphony Digital and Sony actually talk more about the game? I mean come on. People are so fast to overreact to something.
This game is going to be great and I'm sure it won't be online all the time, just for certain things.
So you pay £70 for a game that has a limited lifespan? Once they cut the servers, the game is dead. Honestly, they're idiots...do they ever listen to gamers?
That lame. I only put up with this for Hitman as I'm super fond of that series, but I don't care about GT enough to support this practice with GT7.
@Gamer_Girl_
Once they shut the servers down, and they will, it may as well be an arcade game.
Where's my elephant?!! 😤
I couldn't care less, my console is always connected, just like everyone else's who is moaning here!
l don't get it, what's the hassle with a constant connection? if your broadband isn't stable try a different provider! and if your WiFi goes down just set your smartphone up to share its 4g/5g connection so as you can get the game on. tbh I'm glad it's constantly online, l wanna see all my friends lap times/replays etc 😌 ....you know my internet AND 5g connection will go down simultaneously on the day l get this game right? lol 😁🥺
I don't like it, for many of the same reasons that have been listed by others. I lived without access to broadband for many years, and it sucked, but I could still play my offline games as much as I wanted.
I now have access to good, fast broadband, but it still goes down several times a year. And as others have said, surely they won't support the game forever. What happens when I want to pick up the game and continue my career five to ten years from now?
I'm absolutely going to buy the game whenever I'm able to buy a PS5. And I'm sure that I'll love it. But now, it has this huge stain on it for no good reason that I can think of.
@Lovespuds Internet generation response right there. I was waiting for someone to say that and I wasn't disappointed.
Single Player games didn't need an online connection to function before so why now? I'll be waiting. Oh have fun when the servers INEVITABLY shut down and they WILL shut down at some point.
The ignorance being displayed here by people supporting this garbage is absolutely mind blowing.
@Lovespuds you're missing the point tbf
@RubyCarbuncle exactly. But some people won't mind. Must have money to burn
Keep supporting developers who pull the plug after a few years..money for nothing, no wonder they're billionaire's
Shame, I was quite excited for this when I first got the PS5. Now it's become an online only game it's lost all worth to me as something to look forward to and get on release. Now I'll wait until I see it cheap.
I thought that the whole Sony Studios thing was to offer solid, complete experiences that avoid all the microtransaction, online only nonsense. Wasn't this the whole base for the argument for charging £70?
@Steve30000 Agreed. Was looking forward to this but out of Principle I refuse to support Single Player games that require an internet connection to function.
@RubyCarbuncle
It's not ignorance. It's called having a different opinion. Once the game's servers shut down (which is inevitable at some point) you will be playing Gran Turismo 8. Polyphony might as well patch online requirement out once the game reaches the end of its lifecycle. A lot of overreaction in this thread.
Honestly don't care about whether I'll be able to play this a few years from now. There will be newer and probably better games to play. Although tbf I guess it would suck for those in areas with bad internet coverage.
This one doesn’t really feel like something to get annoyed about. If you managed to download the game, even with a disc, then you clearly have an internet connection.
If you're prepared to have your phone connected online constantly, then I don't think having a game online constantly is much to complain about.
@gollumb82 If you say so Donkey Kong you're an expert after all.
I'm done talking to people here. It's obvious most if not all of them come from a different generation to me and just can't see why this is such a bad thing.
Yes I’d say most people have their consoles online anyways but why oh why should you have to play the single player campaign online. Oh dear polypheny.
Why not make it optional? Surely, that would make everyone happy?
As for the angry comments, how about we wait for some clarification? No? Facts don't matter? Ok then.
@JapaneseSonic "Here we go again. A day just cannot go by without a bit of outrage or negativity."
Here we go with you again 🙄
You're the other extreme of people constantly bashing Sony, surely there has to be a middle ground between them and you. Someone who will praise them when they do good and hold them accountable for bad decisions.
Not PS5 exclusive and now this, something that should've been mentioned upfront. For me, this goes from day one buy to not even a consideration now.
On the one hand...this is rubbish as at the end of the day they're charging £70 you won't be able to have access to if your internet goes down. Or psn has problems like the other week...or if they pull servers completely like they did with Driveclub.
On the other hand... Any body who bought the last GT knows you needed to keep updating the thing. It ended up over 100gb. So God knows just how much of a different game it was to the one on the disc. And we've all accepted these games need day 1 patches...regardless of price increases.
Anyway, the end game will be putting ads in our games...so of course online is needed for single player.
@naruball because if it was optional nobody would have anything to moan about and pushsquare will be down at least 10 articles they can write about this to keep the trolls happy..jeez have you not learned yet?
I'm the opposite to most people. I think it's better they force people to be online as some features will only work from people's data (not personal data).
If it was optional, the data would either be skewed, or incomplete.
The fact that everything in the world is online, it's a complete non-issue. For example, in my house every one of my radiators is online, my heating thermostat, my oven, my fridge, my toddlers clock, every one of my speakers, both my TVs, the nursery thermometer, nursery hygrometer, my house lights (only the hub is online, the bulbs mesh locally to the hub), my watch, my Dyson fan, my cameras, my smart plugs, etc. Etc. (There's probably loads more, but can't think of them right now).
The point is, what's the issue with GT7 being online as well?
Mountain out of a molehill!
It's probably related with the contract Polyphony has with FIA. GT Sport required an awalys online connection because it was Polyphony's only way to see if qualifying times users made for championships (which are officially approved by FIA) were not modified in any way.
They could make two different modes for GT7, one offline and one online, but I think a lot of people would complain that playing online doesn't add XP and money for the offline one, and vice versa.
@PixelRunner The fact that everything is online IS A HUGE ISSUE. The fact that a hacker can completely shutdown all forms of technology to the point that we could instantly be thrust back to a pre-industrial Revolution level of technology because we think it's a great idea to have it all stored on servers is dumb AF. With climate change, lost old-school technologies, and the fact that 90% plus of the population don't have any skills or knowledge to function without the aid of technology from the past 400 years, it'll be absolute doomsday if this frankly highly probable scenario plays out. 😫
I assume that this means the game will be pretty much unplayable for the first week or so.
@TowaHerschel7 North Korea gonna launch an EMP bomb at the US and take it over Homefront style at this rate lol
I'd like to know why we would need to be online to play single player, seems unnecessary on the face of it. But what is it about people today getting so upset about things before they even know the detail? When we actually find out why online is needed, we can make an informed decision as to whether we want to buy it or not. Doesn't that make sense?
For good or ill we're already at the point now where you need to be online to function fully in society. I'm old. I still remember having to buy magazines for reviews. Then phone around shops to find if someone had what I wanted in stock. Then send a cheque to pay for it and wait best part of a month for the cheque to clear and for them to post it to me.
Now I can read a review on something and have it delivered ( real physical stuff) the same day. There's always a price to pay for that level of convenience.
Right after the Horizon debacle too, which this is arguably even worse.
Hopefully Sony backtracks on this too
It is a form of DRM if you can't play or things are not playable unless connected to the net
Moan, moan, moan, shut up and get of the internet for gods sake.
@Northern_munkey hahaha. Good point!
Absolutely scandalous. I will require an answer as to why this is necessary immediately!
@JapaneseSonic i'm sure sony will lament the loss of your day one purchase which leads me to presume at some point you may be tempted to purchase it at some knock down sale price but here is the kicker...you will still need an online connection so really your argument is kind of redundant..enjoy your xbox series super duper..ciao..
@nessisonett Alright then, fancy a couple in races in DriveClub? Oh wait...
Could someone break it down as to why this is a bad thing? Like, isn’t everyone’s PlayStation always connected anyways?
I do find it odd that some folks want Sony to backtrack on this when its likely nothing to do with them. It will be the developers choice to require an online connection for single player.
I see both sides as im not to fussed personally about it requiring to be online but completely get why people are annoyed as it could leave them with a dead game in a few years.
But one guy in these comments says they cancelled their pre order and sold their PS5 because of this. I mean, come on. Thats just toddler tantrum levels of reaction. We havent even had 100% clarification as to what is needed and why.
I think folks need to calm down a touch.
@itsfoz you need to look at the bigger picture, once Sony shut down the servers, the game is redundant.
They want to take your money and leave you with a game that you can only keep on playing until they decide to pull the plug.
You may as well be renting the game from the developers, because a few years down the line you might fancy playing it again but you won't be able to. At least you've given them your £70 though for a coaster for your cup
I'm gonna be pissed if the licences are only optional and not necessary. No better feeling than finally getting that licence to open up a ton more races.
@Weebleman exactly bud...there are some serious "eastenders" drama queens here sometimes..👍
@Weebleman or maybe it was sarcasm?
@Northern_munkey
I think Sonic was being sarcastic. Especially about the Xbox part.
@naruball possibly. The fact i cant actually be sure speaks volumes though
I've just realised that this is so they can constantly update with adverts. Oh dear, if that's the case then the game should be free to play. It's one thing putting in ads for realism and taking advantage of that, but hobbling a game with online only so they can shove more and more ads into a £70 game. Gross.
@gollumb82 really? You can never be sure of that as of late..i doubt it..
@Northern_munkey @JapaneseSonic This is hilarious. Keep living up to expectations boys!
@Northern_munkey
I know, but I'm positive he was being sarcastic. It's kind of disheartening when you see the tone this whole discussion in this thread has taken. Too much negativity on this site recently.
@The_New_Butler I dont really know what you want to say but i can do you better i just dont buy always online game for the singleplayer its nonsense. I had 1 month with internet because they could not locate the problem. PSN can go down and i cant play. To many reasons why i want the optional online. I can wake up at 2 in the morning and walk to work but i dont want to do that either.
@gollumb82 i'll take it with a pinch of salt then but after seeing the sort of comments that are posted recently i cannot rule anything out..anything..
@RubyCarbuncle
Hahaha.....Internet generation, dude, I am 46 and started gaming on my Atari 2600 in the 80s.
I just cannot muster the energy to get worked up about such a minor thing. By the time servers are turned off, as you suggest, we will be playing Gran Turismo 10.
At a time when there are so many things to get really upset about, especially here in the UK, small issues with a piece of entertainment barely registers as a blip on my radar.
No no no. Absolutely no justification for a single player game to require an Online connection. Just don’t.
@Lovespuds that's the way I feel about most game related issues. It blows my mind that so many people get so worked up over... video games.
@The_New_Butler I'd love to know what 'creative vision' of a grant turismo game would be compromised by having a fully functional single player experience that doesn't require you to be online. I can only imagine it would compromise the potential of placing ads...or removing cars once licencing expires ect. Maybe they're doing some similar to Drive club where everything is tracked and competing with friends ect...but we all know what happened with Drive club (atleast when they pulled those servers you could still play it). If you can only play this when online that's when this becomes a real issue.
But I do see your point. And with certain games it will certainly lead to new experiences. So I hope those defending games needing an internet connection as needed for 'creative vision' keep the same energy when say kajimas next game is cloud based ect.
@naruball
Exactly, people just like to get upset and of course, providers of sites covering news on any subject matter know that nothing draws an audience more than negativity, bad news and faux outrage.
I cannot wait to play GT7 personally, like 99.9 percent of the people here, my consoles are connected to the Internet, so this is a complete non issue for me. Occasionally I may not be able to play a part of the game if servers are down.....oh no....how will I survive!!!
@The_New_Butler not so sure anybody should compromise their principles..you start doing that and it becomes hard to be taken as a credible person and ultimatley be taken seriously..you just become one of the many gobshites..
@The_New_Butler maybe not putting yourself in a situation that forces you to compromise your principles and integrity is the key here..everybody has a choice in life and if putting yourself in said situations is something you are happy doing then enjoy your compromises..i'll compromise once with you now and agree to disagree with you to end what will become a pointless back and forth between us..i hope you can compromise your principles by letting this go and not responding..enjoy your afternoon..
@TowaHerschel7 while I agree with some of your points, I also disagree that it is highly probable for the Doomsday scenario you describe to happen.
I think it's way more likely that a single company I use to cloud manage devices, for example my radiators, goes bust and then my radiators won't work without fitting new manual TRV valves on them.
In terms of hacking, I'm actually a network engineer by trade, so I have my home network set up in to many different groups which cannot communicate with each other (the access points and switches just black hole the traffic if they try). Furthermore, my security appliance at the head of my network receives regular (multiple times a day) updates from Cisco's AMP cloud so all my traffic in and out of my house is monitored and if any matches the signatures from Cisco, it will also get black holed.
Alongside this, I also manage my own DNS server which recursively uses Umbrella's DNS service which also blocks any suspicious sites IP addresses.
Granted there are many many people that don't take network security as seriously as me, people should take responsibility for their own security and not rely on anyone else to have their best interests at heart. For example, why do people use their ISPs DNS service when there is no security built in, and they use your data to sell your browsing habits (anonymised) - when you can easily pay for a secure service, encrypt the traffic at source and then send it the service without any 3rd parties in-between being able to see any of your data.
Alongside all of this, every website/online service I use, has a different email address/username with multifactor authentication enabled where available, and the strongest form available as well. For example for someone to access my Google account, not only do they need to know a unique email, but they need to guess/brute force a 32 digit random password (that has differing types of letters, numbers, and symbols) as well as need a physical key - of which I have one at home in my study, and another attached to my keys I keep with me.
I do agree that people are losing historic skills, but you can only learn so much. People don't have the time to learn about how triple expansion stream engines work with, as well as how internal combustion engines work, as well as how electric motors work (taking cars as an example). Bearing in mind that at each stage of this example, efficiency of energy transfer gets better as well as increasing reliability, it makes sense to concentrate on the newest technology but making sure that you do your research around how all aspects of it work (including security, etc.).
I apologise for the long and meandering essay. I didn't mean to write that much when I started!
@Lovespuds Yeah? well I'm 43 and I like to play my games years down the road. I'm sorry but you come across as a Shill if you're in favour of this. In fact the ignorance and hypocrisy here on this website is too much for me sometimes Idk why the hell I bother coming here. It's pretty obvious you and others here just aren't prepared to see things from another perspective. You do your thing I'll do mine.
Tired of this Community tbh. I was a fool coming back here after deleting my old account.
@RubyCarbuncle i am 48 bud and i agree with most of what you say on here..its a shame that you let yourself feel this way as most of 'em on here just aint worth the effort..
@Northern_munkey have a like for using the word gobshite, one of my all time favourites 😁
Can I have a positive article that talks about how great playstation is please, maybe how their devs are probably the best in the world ,whos releases are a mark of a quality finished product. Thanks 👍
@vapidwolf of course you can..its fine and dandy with me but you have to clear it with the others first..good luck pal..
@Northern_munkey I don't mean to get upset with others I always try my best to be positive, to get on with everyone on here and restrain myself when I can feel myself getting angry with someone which admittedly is difficult but when you see the hobby you love changing into what it is now it's just hard to be positive you know? gaming right now has helped me as I suffer from Bipolar Disorder. I just don't want to see the hobby I love get destroyed.
@RubyCarbuncle tough break..i myself struggled with depression for 7 years after losing a close friend to alcoholism so i understand how it can affect your mental balance and how little things can very quickley blow up..i took up golf to help focus my mind on other things which is kind of ironic because golf can literally destroy people mentaly but it works for me..i refuse to let some of the horrors on here deter me from enjoying my gaming pastime and i refuse to let somebody question my morals, principles etc just so they can feel "superior" in their own views which i'd like to clarify are theirs and should be able to debate with others without getting overly aggressive..i like a bit of banter as i'm sure you do but some of these basement dwellers just take it too far..F'ck em' dude..
@RubyCarbuncle
Oh the irony, you winge about people not acknowledging the point of view of others whilst simultaneously throwing a paddy because I disagree with the notion that always online is an issue in GT7. Catch your breath chief, I didn't want to ruin your day, I just don't happen to agree with those who think this is an issue.
@The_New_Butler
Some people literally have no choices when it comes to an ISP.
I’m in the camp. The only thing I could get in my rural service area is fixed wireless. And thank God I got myself locked in when I did. A month after my service was activated they stopped accepting new subscribers because the tower capacity is maxed out. Thankfully that hasn’t impacted my speed or network stability but I was told that’ll it’ll be next year (when they upgrade the two towers in my county, US resident) before they can start accepting subscribers again.
Couldn't be bothered to read through 135 comments, but I heard that GT7 has competitions and championships that are sponsered and supported by FiA, and it was them who stipulated the online only game to try to prevent save files from being hacked to stop cheating re laptimes etc and whatever else is in the game.
So blame FiA, not Sony is what I've heard. I'm sure we'll hear actual facts and some point before release.
I don't understand why people are boycotting this. I have PS+, like most of us do. If my playstation is on, I'm online. What difference does it make? Do you turn off the PlayStation's internet connection to play a solo campaign? I bet you don't! Pretty much everything is online these days, it's the way of the world. If I'm playing a game that's online, be it solo or multiplayer I doubt I'd even realise! I also doubt you'd even be complaining if this article hadn't baited you into thinking it was an issue! Get over it, play it if you want and don't bother if you don't!
@Lovespuds Whinge? I was stating how I feel and you and others like you were making smart arse comments attacking us which I'm not going to get into now. Too late you've already ruined my day. You just don't want to see it from our perspective and on that I don't see the point continuing on with this. We could argue with one another until we're both blue in the face we're not going to get anywhere here so let's just leave it at this like civilised adults for once.
@Bagwag82 you mad, enjoy not owning games sony shill.
GT Sport has had online for 4 1/2 years. Why all the uproar now?
I just don't care. I would have years ago but I'm beyond tired of complaining. I was always upset about this kind of thing then I began to see that fanning the flames just gets developers harassed or worse. I can play something else if my internet goes down before I pick my pitchfork up. I'd assume this is just for certain aspects of the mode anyway.
This is so ridiculous, why are they doing this it's beyond me.
Give the game for free if you want a constant internet connection.
@RubyCarbuncle If you re-read what you've written, looking at it from the other point of view, you are just as guilty in the smart-arse stakes. As soon as name-calling comes into an argument, you've probably lost. I don't personally see this as an issue and so really don't get the strength of feeling expressed by those that do. And vice-versa, I suppose. I doubt anyone on either side is going to change their view but we can be polite about it.
@Saad_Moonwalker Well, given no-one actually seems to know why they need it, so it's beyond everyone
@MidnightDragonDX Hooray for always on! Lots of people do have reliable internet
@SJBUK Name calling? saying someone comes across as a Shill is hardly name calling. A Shill is merely a person who has a close connection or relationship with some Company or organisation but doesn't say so and I'm sorry but people who support a Single Player game online only come across as one going by some of the comments here. I like to go back to my old games later on down the road and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for a Single Player game only for it to have an expiry date on it. People that say oh Consoles are online all the time are completely missing the point.
Either way I said I was done here. I've since calmed down and I don't want to get riled up again so I kindly ask that you leave it at this. Thank you.
Shill - an accomplice of a confidence trickster or swindler who poses as a genuine customer to entice or encourage others.
@The_New_Butler I will respect that but i will stay away from it. With something like racegames i really want to have a option and if its forced on me then i will avoid the game.
For me i have limited time and i want to be able to boot up a game any time and not for how long a developer feels like supporting it.
Look at a PS2 game like Resident Evil Outbreak optional online and offline singleplayer thats what i like a option to play and be able to finish a game in the way i like.
@pip_muzz I'm not sure there is even a market for Forza 8 on the Xbox. Most of us have moved onto the open roads of Horizon. Going back to confined racetracks feels claustrophobic by comparison.
@The_New_Butler I would love the option to play offline i would even accept that certain rewards are not available for online use unless i unlock them online.
Lol imagine thinking calling someone a Shill is name calling. There's more than one definition for the term btw and it's the one I'm referring to. Perhaps if you bothered to look more into it you would know this along with everybody else here.
@Carck Sure is, that's what happens when you get a lot of closed-minded people in one place.
"Of course always online singleplayer is bad."
Depends what it offers, surely? Yes, bad if it offers nothing, but not so bad if it does. I'll go against the flow and wait to make an informed decision. More people should try it, makes life far less stressful.
I'll probably buy it anyway, on the grounds there's worse things that would happen if my internet drops. Like being unable to work.
If you're going to add me to ignore then do it. Why does everybody here feel the need to broadcast it? to be an arsehole?
I'd be very grateful if the offending comment in question could be removed.
Some nasty/spiteful people here for sure.
Hmmm... not the best of news.
@Carck It may be that some aspects of how a single-player campaign works is now changed according to your progress or some other telemetry. Stuff that used to be baked-in to distributed code is now done externally, making it easier to be tweaked, improved or somehow customised to you without the user having to patch.
As I say, I don't know. I'm going to assume there is a decent reason for it until I know for sure there isn't.
@Carck Well, as I say, just a guess. Maybe influenced by the way software is going. Makes sense with my dev hat on.
@Futureshark
My phone relies on a network provider company, not a server in a fairly big room situated somewhere in the middle of the country, that can be shutdown rendering the game obsolete.
Comparing a mobile phone and a game is silly
