Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been likened to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in a new interview that reveals the sequel will be darker than the original PlayStation 4 title. Speaking on the This Week in Marvel podcast, creative vice president Bill Rosemann touched on how the web-slinging sequel compares to the first title. "If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire. It gets a little darker."
All we have to go on right now is the reveal trailer debuted during the PlayStation Showcase earlier this month, but with Venom already confirmed to be appearing, it seems Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has a pretty good chance of living up to that claim. Rosemann then turns his attention to Marvel's Wolverine, which is said to be releasing after Marvel's Spider-Man 2. "We will eventually reveal when Wolverine is aimed to launch. For more, go back and study those trailers — they are packed with details and easter eggs."
Other confirmed information for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 includes Candyman actor Tony Todd voicing Venom and that the announcement trailer was running in real time on PS5.

So Peter Parker will reveal he’s actually Miles Morales’s father.
@Th3solution Would probably still be better than Miles Morales’ dad literally being called Jefferson Davis of all things.
@Th3solution The father who died in the first game was just a stunt double.
Spider-man 2 actually actually a venom games, venom defeated all the spider-man.
"We will eventually reveal when Wolverine is aimed to launch."
Well....no duh guys. You're not gonna SEGA Saturn it are you? Spend millions and not release it or shadow drop it randomly on Twitter one day that its out at retail and digital?
Inject it into my veins already.
Please don’t go to the Dagobah system. I hate that place. Stick to New York, it’s much more suited for a Spider-Man game.
@Haruki_NLI Hahaha. I was going to say the exact same thing.
2 player co-op as Peter & Miles!
You saw it here first.
The first one already seemed quite dark to me (dat ending made me cry like a baby) …
Very curious to see how they’ll be handling Venom. Hopefully it’ll not be a comic relief (like in the movies) and more of a brutal threat (like in the comics).
So basically inFamous 5 in a Disney cosmetic DLC?
@Th3solution And then Venom is Peter's father...
@Th3solution No, Peter is Wolverine’s father, but abandoned him in the Canadian woods.
Now if only 2023 could hurry up and get here that would be nice.
Calling it their Empire seems to infer that there will definitely be a third game. No complaints here!
I really hope he doesn't mean his sister kisses him while he's recovering
@Martsmall Ew man! It's 2021! Miles kisses Peter while he's recovering. Get with the times!
@DuncanMcleod if you played the other spider man game you would see who is playing venom , it feels like they are going a different direction in this series
Probably means they are killing off Peter Parker
It may be an unpopular opinion, but I can't stand Miles, he is one of the blandest and generic characters that wore the mantle, and I cannot understand why he must be introduced in all major adaptations of Spidey like this game, the recent tv series etc. I cannot recall any story that miles was the focus that I really enjoyed: Spider-Men, Civil War 2... At least the his cameo in Life Story was interesting. And in the game, after they changed Peter's actor, they made him seen younger than Miles.
By the way I loved the end in Spider-Man. I loved the connection and how it was forged between Peter and the final boss.
Spider-Man is his own father
Nice... First Miles and now a "darker" theme.
Sony has the touch for story driven single player games. Especially darker ones.
This gets better by the sec
Spiderman , Spiderman. Lost his pants in the isle of man
I dont know why, but this is the first image of seeing Spider-Man with the extra arms where I thought to myself...how the hell would those work?!? It should have dawned on me a long time ago, but oh well.
Yea it’s obviously hinting at Venom. I hope it’s a full story. Such great character. Could as well be Venom the game as far as I’m concerned.
You can joke about who is the father of who all day, but one of the darkest thing about Spider-Man that I remember as I was growing up was the mystery surrounding his real parents.
@vict0RGM They eventually explain what Peter's parents were doing though, as well as the truth behind their deaths.
So basically peter gets the symbiote suit and goes dark
If this is anywhere near as good as the first game, it will be a system seller and will probably when i make the jump to ps5
@hobbes242
But …the third/fourth game is Wolverine isn’t it?
Same universe.
Not sure why he’d forget miles game as being the second one though. I don’t think he referred to the empire as a 2nd game, just the tone.
@DuncanMcleod Venom in the comics was a goofy villian like in the movie as well. In fact, he was goofier. No shade towards you or anything but I just thought my input was valuable. Ciao!
@Dtrain45 He had his goofy moments over the years, but when McFarlane created the character he intended for him to be creepy monster with personality. In Amazing and Ultimate Spider-Man, Venom is far from being funny. The concept of the symbiote being a funny character really appeared in Venom comic books (when writers had to find new ways for the character to reach a wider audience) and in the movie adaptation.
@twitchtvpat I didn’t mention it on purpose, but yes I’m very curious to see how they handle that idea !
Its spiderman it'll never be as dark as batman
@JJ2 I was probably (eagerly) reading too much into it. But then is Miles Morales considered a full sequel if the next game is Spider-Man 2? There I go again!
@hobbes242
Of course your right to wonder. I just think I doubt very much he would announce Spider-man 3 implicitly haha
@hobbes242 Miles Morales was a spin-off rather than being a part of the main series. I'm not sure why so many people seem to be confused about this.
