Next week’s major PlayStation Showcase, announced moments ago, will reveal “what’s next for PlayStation 5” – but there’ll be no next-gen PSVR during the 40 minute presentation. Sony insinuated earlier in the year that we’d get updates on the new headset this summer, but our understanding is that a public announcement isn’t planned until early 2022.
And on the PS Blog, the platform holder said: “PlayStation’s next generation of VR won’t make an appearance this time. But there will still be plenty of great PS5 games from developers large and small.” The wait goes on for further PSVR news, then – at least we’ve got something to look forward to in the interim, eh?

Vr hopes there will be many announcements of new games since it can be late.
Disappointing but not unsurprising
I would love it to be a PSVR 2 showcase, but I can wait. Hopefully not too long though.
I'm interested in the new VR system but I can wait for this one. More PS5 games though - let's goooooo
That's fine with me. The more that's focused on non-VR PS Studios games, the happier I'll be.
Just show us God of War Ragnarok!
Good. Time and place.
Thy are trying to manufacture has many ps5 as they possibly.
Adding new hardware to the roster at that time would only make things more difficult.
Looking forward to PSVR2, but not the price tag I assume it's getting. Or the scalpers.
Sony loves charging premium, and the description of VR2 sounds pricy. But it's a catch-22, if the VR unit costs almost as much as the consoles, it's going to remain niche and not go as mainstream as they seem to want it to.
Can’t wait got this, but I guess I’ll have to. The eye tracking alone makes it an essential purchase for me as it means it’ll keep up with PCVR for the foreseeable (resolution and FoV not withstanding).
This is fine. People would have been mad after such a long period of silence if Sony opted to focus on VR. Give this it's own reveal in its own showcase next year
I don't expect PSVR2 until late 2022 anyway, so that makes sense.
I can wait. It'll happen when it happens.
I have a feeling Sony is really going to dive into the PSVR2 in 2022, with a potential holiday 2022 release date. Let them focus on the non-VR titles now.
Awww well, another year at least until it comes out. I'll keep playing my pro with vr 1 and hopefully complete all the VR games I have by the time it comes out.
I get the decision. All I need to know is if it's backwards compatible, since I'm somewhere between repairing/replacing my psvr or just holding off for it's successor.
Hopefully astrobot & moss will get a psvr2 upgrade and HL3 will get a port (prob not)
@tameshiyaku they have hinted that it will not be
@tameshiyaku best to assume it won't given the tech differences.
Hoping for a Resident Evil Village VR and Half Life Alyx announcement along with it
@Rob_230 @The_New_Butler @SoulChimera This is my thinking, they sill surely give PSVR2 it's own Showcase/State of Play.
Most likely Spring 2022 as everyone else is saying.
@theheadofabroom @Orpheus79V yeah, I have assumed it. Just don't want to lay down any more cash before I know for sure. It would be a shame though since the current PSVR library is really good and something to build on.
Beat sabre, Creed and Box VR have also become part of my workout routine before my processor unit started to act up.
@tameshiyaku My guess is that we'll see a lot of ports, and this may be (mis?)handled a lot like the PS4 to PS5 native version upgrades: some will be given for free, others will have a paid upgrade path, a few will make to buy the game again, and a load of smaller studios will not have the resources to justify doing the work at all.
Obviously this will hit differently without the possibility to play via backwards compatibility unless you own the original PSVR as well.
