After months of teasing, EA DICE has finally revealed the third pillar of multiplayer title Battlefield 2042. Along with the usual online suite of modes and Battlefield Portal will be Hazard Zone, a hardcore offering in the same vein as the likes of Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown. Online squads must complete tasks on maps from the normal multiplayer modes and fend off attacks from other combatants; both real life and controlled by the AI. The trailer above will explain it all in further detail.
The official description reads: "Inserted as a four-member squad, you must locate and retrieve critical Data Drives scattered throughout the battlefield, while competing against opposing squads with the same objective and local militias. Succeed by gathering the Data Drives and choosing when to extract before a storm overtakes the area in this high-stakes, one-life experience. Every bullet, every skirmish, and every decision counts." It's been confirmed Hazard Zone will use the same maps as multiplayer.
The more intel you gather out in the field, "the more XP and Dark Market Credits you earn. The latter means better equipment for you and your squad in the next match." Are you interested in Hazard Zone for Battlefield 2042? Let us know in the comments below.

Without any kind of class progression it all seems rather pointless though. If you could earn extra xp or guns for your class then yeah, I'd be very interested. But specialists.... They're the thing now aren't they?
This mode does sound pretty cool. Much more my style mode with not as much chaos as the typical BF game modes. Definitely sounds like going in alone is a death sentence for this mode though so bring some friends along If you plan to play this!
As an avid Hunt: Showdown player, this is the mode I'm most excited for. Hunt has a great community and playing with randoms is usually not a problem- I hope the same will be true with this as teamwork will be so important, although I have my concerns.
When did Battlefield become such a "me too" sort of game? They haven't done anything truly innovative in ages. And have actuay shied away from the things that set the series apart (like destructive environments and squad based play). Just doesn't seem like it's anywhere close to Battlefield games of old.
Just remake MAG already thats a massive online game that had it right back on PS3
After how bad the beta was over the weekend, this and portal are my only hope for this game. Could be really good with some very tense moments. But long term replayability and the quality of the AI defenders might hamper it.
@HuJack007 I'd love to play a MAG2...maybe they could have 512 players this time around.
