Tales of Arise has just received a bit of an update — but you won't have to download any kind of patch. Instead, you'll need to head over to the PlayStation Store and grab the free 'Additional Difficulty Pack'. If you can't find it by searching, you can always go to the game's main product page, and it should be listed there.
Once you've claimed it, you'll find the pack under the DLC tab in-game.
The DLC adds two new difficulty settings: Very Easy and Unknown. The former is exactly what it sounds like — a really easy option that greatly lessens combat difficulty so that players can just focus on the story. Meanwhile, Unknown is set up to be the game's hardest challenge.
There are already several difficulty levels in Tales of Arise: Story, Normal, Moderate, Hard, and Chaos. But even on Story, combat can be tricky if you're not used to action-based battle systems. The new Very Easy setting should allow even more people to enjoy the game, while Unknown gives experts a real run for their money.
This DLC launches alongside the recently announced Sword Art Online Collaboration Pack, which adds a tough new arena fight, outfits, weapons, and a new Mystic Arte. You'll have to pay for this one, however. It's priced at £12.99 / $15.99
Are you still playing Tales of Arise? Will you make use of these new difficulty levels? Take on a brand new challenge in the comments section below.

realy want to pick this up,but i just know if i buy this now,it will be in the next store sale lol.
It’s a great game. Unfortunately I’ve already completed and deleted it. I won’t be going back for years.
I put a few hours into this and then got distracted with Hot Wheels Unleashed, Kena and now BF2042 beta. I’ll hop back in next month prob
Wondering why this was released specifically as DLC and not just included in a patch? More PR?
I'm 25 hours in and really enjoying the story and characters. Not sure if tue SAO dlc is worth $15 tho.
@themightyant Could be, "Free DLC" is always going to sound good.
I suppose it also gets people looking at the game's product page, which has various other DLC packs on it, so it's good for exposure.
@ShogunRok Good point on the store page exposure!
Just seems a little odd to me, most gamers won't know about these difficulties if they're hidden in the shop.
@themightyant Yeah it's still weird, especially in a time when basically every other game just does updates. Maybe it's got to do with the fact that pushing a patch costs money — maybe releasing DLC is cheaper, not sure.
About 20 hours in and really enjoying the game! However, Alan Wake Remastered will finally be delivered today so I'll be playing that. Switch OLED with Metroid Dread and Doki Doki Literature Club will be delivered tomorrow so unfortunately Tales of Arise will be put on hold for a while...
@ShogunRok All fair points. I'd love to believe this was for sensible reasons... but I don't
They've already released several patches in recent days.
Though strangely the patch notes for 1.04 listed here (a translation) mention these difficulties.

@themightyant Hmmm, that makes it even stranger! This suggests that the update actually added the new difficulty settings, and the DLC just unlocks them.
It must just be the Tales way of doing things. They've always had a lot of DLC (in the forms of item packs and costumes and stuff).
Finished it a few days ago with 102h on the clock. Great game, but i don't feel like paying 12.99 for a DLC that doesn't have additional story/location at least. A bit steep imo.
Also, focusing on Diablo 2 atm.
How about a patch which fixes up the weird wobby graphical glitches littered all throughout the game, it gave me some serious PS1 flashbacks!
They've also added three new Training Ground DLCs for free in Japan and some of the Asia PS Stores but they're not available in NA's, yet.
How about a patch that returns multiplayer back into the game
Just like All the other games in the series
I played at moderate and it was a decent challenge, much harder then other Tales anyway which I always crank up to Hard, I'm glad about that though, I want a challenge but not an artificially high challenge
We'll.. Ive put 95hrs into this game on story mode and have gotten the platinum trophy on ps5. Amazing game. But playing a new difficulty as hard as unknown, i dont see the point 🤔 definitely a marketing ploy. Amazing game though.
Does the AI improve on higher difficulty levels or do the characters just march under the feet of zeugles and get themselves OTK killed?
@finalstan Wait there's issues with AI? Allies or Enemies?
@KidBoruto Allies. They get themselves killed too easily. There are strategies to employ but for the whole team, not individual. You'd want Rinwell as far away as possible at all times but Law as close as possible but this is mutually exclusive unless I am missing something.
@finalstan That's a shame, hopefully they will fix that in the future.
@finalstan literally every single game in the series has that flaw... tos tov toz tob all of them do this because its sposta be a local co-op multiplayer game
