When editor Sammy Barker is out of the office, it falls to another Push Square staffer to cover anything with the word 'Simulator' in the name. To that end, here's an update on Farming Simulator 22: it's sold more than 1.5 million copies in the space of a week.
It's a significant milestone for developer Giants Software; this is the first game in the series to be self-published, for one thing. The team will be doubly pleased, then, that this PlayStation 5 and PS4 title has now set a series record for the most sales in the opening seven days.
There's definitely something to be said for games like this, which turn menial, even boring jobs into satisfying, relaxing pastimes. Farming Simulator has reached the point where it has many licensed vehicles and products from the world of agriculture, and even boasts a yearly convention where fans enjoy updates on the franchise.
Boris Stefan, acting Head of Publishing at Giants Software, seems pleased with the series' growth: "The initial success of this first week and the great feedback we got from players proves: Farming Simulator is going in the right direction," he says.

Wow! I knew this series was fairly popular but I had no idea it could push out 1.5M in just a week. I should try one of these games out someday.
Loving it so far! Improvement over FS19.
@Jayslow if you ever wind up with a PlayStation now subscription, pretty much every Farming Sim game is on the service. These games are just perfect to play with music or a podcast or something in the background.
Seriously impressive sales numbers. I know some of these life sims are popular but had no idea this would shift that many units in a week. Kudos to the team.
Insane, I had no idea there was that big of a maker for this game. I thought it was more niche to be honest.
Been playing it…it’s a lot of fun. It took someone at Gamestop to push me to play farm simulator 16 years ago I said it can’t be any good…I was wrong… they are fun games to play!
Absolutely loving this game. Shame about the one bugged trophy.
I’m also surprised at the sales numbers. Who would have thought.
Like I’ve said before, I wonder what all the farmers think of this. Probably think we’re all mad.
My first time purchasing this type of game (I blame clarksons farm). As a newbie it is pretty daunting and the tutorial is a bit rubbish. With no knowledge of agriculture or the machines I'm finding myself spending a lot of in game money buying or renting different machines to try and find one that does the job I need it to do. That said I am kind of enjoying it and will obviously get better the more I read online and learn.
First time buyer of it here and absolutely loving it. The learning curve can be a bit steep, or rather the hand holding to start is limited so one must think for ones self lol. But there are plenty of helpful YT videos and I think the mark of a great game is when you start playing around 8pm and suddenly you look at your watch and go heck its 1:30am I need to get some sleep
@MatthewJP Check out the YT vids by Daggerwin, they're very helpful
@DarthKiwi will do, thanks
@Anke
What bugged trophy?
@PULSE-88 the "What's In The Bale" trophy, an update made it unobtainable. A few people have reverted to 1.0 to get it but anyone digital is locked out for now.
@Anke
Does that affect the physical PS5 version?
And how would I downgrade to version 1.0?
@PULSE-88 apparently you can get the trophy with the physical version if you don't let any patches apply. If you've already let it patch itself then you can just delete and reinstall.
@Anke
Ok, thank you for the feedback 👍🏻
