Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok is supposedly the "most ambitious" expansion in franchise history — and it's got the price tag to show for it. Taking a look at Dawn of Ragnarok's page on the PlayStation Store confirms that the DLC won't be part of Valhalla's season pass, which has already offered two previous expansions: Wrath of the Druids and The Siege of Paris.
This was pretty much expected, as Ubisoft only ever said that the season pass would cover two premium expansions — and a second year of support for Valhalla was never part of the publisher's original plan.
So, you're going to have to pay up for Dawn of Ragnarok. It's available to pre-purchase now (doing so gets you an armour set, weapon, and animals skins for use in the main game, starting today), and it's priced at £32.99 / $39.99. It's a reasonably hefty tag — the kind of dosh that some budget titles ask for.
It'll be interesting to see just how big Dawn of Ragnarok ends up being. You would hope that if Ubisoft is charging over £30 / $30 for it, it'll basically be its own game. We'll likely learn more over the coming weeks.

By Odin's Raven....!
Assassins Creed is such a boring franchise now. Stripped of any personality and artistic flair. Just reading the article I was like, ugh. Soulless.
Money grabbing w⚓s. I hate modern gaming for reasons like this. A lot picked up the game for 29.99 and now they want to charge more than that for a expansion?!
Price makes sense, sounds almost like a full-size game.
Complete money grab and most likely a bloated, boring, empty, redundant, tedious, etc. expansion. If you considered shooting cursed symbols, solving simple and redundant rock puzzles and boring side quests (aka world events), empty towns/cities, then this is for you.
@MyThoughts31 Do you not understand the concept of sales?
Knowing Ubisoft, I can guarantee that this will be a lazy cash grab. Expect a bloated, boring open world with subpar characters and a subpar story. The only thing decent about AC these days is the combat, and the exploration can be a bit fun at the start of the game.
Don't give your money to Ubisoft!
Given ubisofts recent comments on nft's I won't be supporting them
@Would_you_kindly If that becomes a "thing", I'm going to quit gaming alltogether.
Lol, people keep getting mad at business practices that they don’t like but then follow up by giving those same companies their money. They have no self control. If it wasn’t profitable, these companies wouldn’t do it.
This news doesn’t bother me though. I’ll look more into it and research after it’s release to see if it’s worth the cash to me.
Off topic, I think Ubisoft has some of the ugliest games out of the best looking games out.
@fR_eeBritney
Could say that about any other Ubi game as well unfortunately. The audacity though...
This just makes it so damn easy to avoid buying anything from them
Add a second plat just for this dlc and I'm all over it!
@BoldAndBrash The audacity of…making a game and selling it?
@fR_eeBritney that's a lot of nonsense from someone who doesn't even play the games.
@Divergent95 Their expansions are always big and this will probably be more like a standalone if they're saying it's bigger than what they've done before. Calling it a cash grab is really out of touch with reality.
You also don't seem to know what NFTs actually are or the fact they have been a 'thing' for a while.
@JohntheRaptor Huh? I’ve got the platinum for every AC game ever released from AC2 onwards (including this last one). I’ve played every dlc and expansion until AC Valhalla. It was the first AC game that left me wanting less not more.
Well yeah not shocked considering it was going to be its own game and is meant to have around 40 hours of content. I shell pay for it with Xmas money.
Also anyone complaining about this just remember tomorrow Valhalla is getting the Isle Of Sky with a Kassandra focused story plus new gear for free and Odyssey is getting a new island, story and gear for free as well so its not like Ubi aren't giving Valhalla tons of free support what they very much are.
@MyThoughts31 Dude they're giving players a free mini expansion for Valhalla and Odyssey tomorrow with a new island for each game and a load of story content. Valhalla this past year has actually seen a ton of free content. You seriously think they are just going to give out a 40 hour+ expansion in a massive new location for free? You sound very entitled.
For this price it better be a full length game tbh!
@AFCC On the PSN shop, full-priced titles cost between £60 and £70. So I wouldn't anticipate a full game for 33 quid; some independent games are more pricey. It is, in my opinion, a non-issue.
Those who are interested, will buy it! Nobody is being forced to do this. I brought the ultimate edition, and I'm not interested in this at all. However, I do not believe that 33 pounds for a 40-hour expansion is excessive. It's a product, not a privilege, to be sold. They've delivered on their promises while also adding new content.
Yeah I think if Ubisoft is charging over £30 for this then we can probably expect something very meaty. The open world AC games might not be to everyone's tastes, but there's no denying that you get a lot of content for your money — especially when you factor in all of the free updates.
As someone who enjoys Valhalla, I'm looking forward to this.
@Amnesiac
From making a barebones copy pasta game and then proceeding to not even include its uninspired DLC in the freaking season pass
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….
Oh that’s great!! Yeah I’m in for next Black Friday’s $7.99 price dump
@ShogunRok
But that's exactly what they want though. They make these games deliberately fluff and drawn out, with bad game design and incredibly empty worlds.
Their actual point is for people to spend as much time as possible in their games. Their entire game design is built around that. Is this really what we want though? Is this something that should even be praised nowadays? So many other, better choices. Why would wasting your time on clunky Ubi games be worthwhile or even praiseworthy.
If it’s a 40 hr extension for £30 odd quid I’m in, as that definitely meets my price criteria for games vs length.
I am yet to buy Valhalla (I played origins and by the end I was bored of the repetition) but it’s been on sale for £20 recently, so it’s peaking my interest.
I’m just surprised they didn’t slap an intro and tutorial onto it and sell it as a full game? Maybe they know it’s not up to that standard and so have gone down the DLC route.
@LiamCroft there is profits and then there is taking the p1ss. Sales will knock what a tenner off? And this won't even be included in the rip off Gold edition, no now they bring out an ultimate edition for twice that price instead. I am pretty much done with major titles. I'll stick to indie stuff they don't rip off the consumer.
@fR_eeBritney Wow, that’s a lot of AC. Could it be that you’re just a bit burned out on the series? I always find myself needing a long break between installments and have just started on Valhalla recently. I’m enjoying it so far, but I usually have had my fill by the time I get to the end of an AC and generally skip the DLC.
@WallyWest it isnt free because they've already charged nearly 40 quid for the season pass.
If you enjoy 100%-ing these games you will think it more than worth the money, this sounds like it has multiple new maps to explore. If they're anything like the worlds in the odin/dream quests then this will be dozens of hours more playtime at least.
Valhalla didn't rise up to the level of Odyssey, which for me remains the best of the last 3 AC games.
I already payed 88 Euros on the Ultimate edition (110 E - 20% discount from spending 100 U points).
And I had to drag myself to finish it and it's DLC's after 142 gameplay hours.
The fighting, the story... the game overall is not as engaging, as FUN to play as Odyssey was... which I finished 3 times top to bottom, and still plan to play again in a not so distant future.
So that's enough of an investment for me in Valhalla. I'll buy the new DLC when it'll be heavily discounted, and only if most of the reviews and general opinion say it's worth playing.
Looking at the store page it doesnt appear to stipulate that Valhalla is required - so it seems to be its own standalone thing - aka an AC title (but on the smaller side)
@BoldAndBrash I guess I could say that the base game alone has enough content to warrant the cost, and the DLC seems to be going in a different and interesting direction, but you’d probably just say that the game is “padded”. I think the crux is that you really, really don’t like Ubisoft, so have at it. I think they do a pretty good job, though, so I’ll just keep on stretching out my journey through merry old England.
@Rob_230
It’s labelled as an add on and that ownership of Valhalla is required. Shame as a Ragnarok solo game would have held my interest.
Imma put this in my cringe compilation.
@BoldAndBrash You actually played the game? I have and still check in daily, 250+ hours i've sunk into it this past year and i don't plan or want to stop and why? Because i really like the game and have a ton of fun with it, i'm very excited for the expansion and the next year of content, i even have a bunch of helix credits ready for the new armour set because i think they're cool and add to my enjoyment.
Its amazing how the gaming world fails to grasp the fact that other people like stuff they don't. Seeing these comments here is hilarious as its coming from mostly people who haven't played the game and don't know that much about the game and how it does things.
@MyThoughts31 it’s almost the size of a game so I’m not surprised it’s costing that much
@MyThoughts31 The DLC tomorrow is 100% free, you don't need a season pass or pay any money beyond what the game themselves cost. The Season Pass got you two meaty expansions set in Island and France and that was all they said it would contain, all the free content they have added this past year has had nothing to do with the Season Pass and hell they have even giving out free weapons based on the new weapons types from the Season Pass. You know the game constantly gives out free content, you could just buy the base game and nothing else and still get a ton of free content from the updates.
I always chuckle at news like this because Ubisoft always markets the "Ultimate Edition" version of games that eventually become incomplete due to the multiple season passes.
people also forget they have a lot of free dlc as well. but i guess people selectively remember things these days. not to mention this is additional content beyond what the season pass included.
Jebus, people be complaining. This dlc is obviously for people who want more valhalla. If that's not your cup of tea, move along.
I absolutely love mythology, but I do not care for AC anymore. Lost its heart and soul to attract a wider audience. Not that it wasn't getting stale with its original formula.. unfortunately for me, Ubi have become a terrible developer over the years, such a shame. As they once made some terrific games.
With time, gamers have become one of the whiniest (complain about the most ridiculous things ever) people in the world.... Not even sport fans are this whiny....
That’s quite the price tag. Will absolutely wait on this to drop in price.
Of course they are lol
Not sure this will drop in price much, ubi pattern has been to keep dlc price at full and deep discount full gold editions to encourage buying it all up front.
But this is bonus dlc with the new extended year of new support, not the original season pass. Maybe they'll will be a year 2 pass though.
I like the idea of instead of releasing a game every year alternate a good size expansion in the same world. Wish sports games would get their heads out of their asses and do the same.
I see a lot of people supporting this for no good reason. I remember when a season pass meant all future dlc or expansions but here you all are supporting greedy ubisoft. There is no defending this rubbish.
The game itself is getting old you could probably get it on ebay for £20 and get a season pass for 30 thats still £30 that ubisoft are making from each season pass, if they want to see people spending money on that season pass they really need to buck up there idea. £40 for a new expansion on a old game is far too much and should not be justified with excuses "but its as big as a standalone title" so? You still need the base, most likely the previous season pass content and like all the online patches. Im not saying it should be free.
@rpg2000 some things need to be whined about it must be cool to sit there and justify this 😒
Still haven't touched an AC game since the first. It wasn't particularly memorable at all. I remember definitely NOT wanting to explore the world for their hidden templars and other bs. Also that whole illuminati dream tank stuff put me off and broke up the pacing. Have they at least ditched those rubbish parts since then?
I still need to jump into this but at this moment in time i have a little too much on..for me the way the ac games have progressed since origins has been what i always wanted from the games..i got soooo bored with the rigid structures of the games so when they mixed it all up and gave us these huge VALUE FOR MONEY games i gave a huge sigh of relief..yeah there will be people who dont agree and will feel the need to tell me how wrong i am and how the games are worse off blah, blah, blah but i dont care and will never care..this is a good price point for what you get compared to ghost of tsushimas meagre offering and i'll definatly pick this up in the new year..
Only a moron would continue spending hours in a game they don't enjoy.
That being said, I wonder how many people here forked up 60 for the GTA No Effort Edition.
Look at me, been waiting for this game to be completed and go on a good discount to play it. Looks like I have another year of waiting?
welp, maybe I'll get a PS5 by then.
season pass meh is this a tv show.
besides if you charge for a DLC pass that means all DLC now and future since your charging 70 quid now a game 🤔 il just wait a year or 2. ubisoft like e.a used to be good. now just out to rip off people. im not looking forward to the new splinter cell getting worse.
Mother of negativity!
@rpg2000 my thoughts exactly. Usually when I don't like something very much (e.g. COD or fps in general), I simply ignore them and focus on the things that actually interest me.
@XOF lol just buy the game already.
you could drop dead tomorrow and what would be those 30 saved bucks good for you then?
If the leaks are true, $40 will be well worth the price.
Regardless though I shall wait for a $20 sale on Ragnarok DLC, in no hurry to play Valhalla or the DLC.
Loved Valhalla, loved the DLC’s, happy with this surprise big DLC but will get when on sale as release too close to HZFW and GT7.
@Rob_230 Right at the end of the description it states "Assassin's Creed Valhalla is required to play this game."
@Thelegend159 @W0rJ4ckie Thanks both. I'm blind! Will be interesting to see how this turns out regardless. I wonder what Santa Monica think right now
Hey PushSquare, I would really appreciate if you included prices in EUR as well.. I might not be the only reader from EU here.. Or am I?
@kejsi-sensei aside from the fact that I'm not from US/UK area and games are pretty expensive where I live, what really discourages me from buying the game right now is the continuous support. But you're quite on point about the possibility of me dropping dead tomorrow XD We humans, right? fragile.
Xenoblade chronicles 2 included an entire game with the £30 season pass. It also had an entirely new combat system. I can't justify paying this much for a dlc, especially from greedy Ubisoft.
@LiamCroft “Do you not understand the concept of sales?” I think they are referring to the fact that while games come down in price considerably (around 90% off) DLC typically does not. The most you see is the very occasional sale up to 50% off perhaps twice a year, except in very rare circumstances.
Personally this announcement has only slowed down my timeline for this game. As I was waiting for it ALL to be released. Was thinking of diving in this xmas now I won’t.
@themightyant so you would play around 150+ hours of content over the holidays? the base game and ALL of the DLCs? good for you
@XOF you can always buy it used buddy, where I live (central Europe) the game is selling used for around 35 USD...
@kejsi-sensei No, I didn't say that. I would only START playing the game once it is all released, I thought that would be this xmas, it isn't now.
I'm not a fan of going back months or years later for DLC. I want the whole experience as one not cut up piecemeal.
@Medic_Alert
"It will be under £10 in 6 months....."
No it won't. Season passes & DLC never go that low, it's taken a year for the season pass to get to it's all time low of £16.49.
Prior to that the lowest it saw was £25.
@Medic_Alert
That's not how discounts work with Ubi DLC.
The base games drop massively, not in the overly exaggerated 1 month period, but they do drop.
DLC doesn't.
"the point is waiting is a good idea but you do you."
I never said it wasn't.
@Medic_Alert I'm waiting until I have a PS5 (another year at least) until I get AC:V. Presumably the super complete edition will be out by then. Or maybe I'll wait for this rumoured 'AC: Infinity' thing.
@Bu1ld0g That's why I tend to get the gold editions of games I like. Just in case I want to play the DLC down the line.
@Fyz306903 I'm still on the fence with the DLC. Finished the main game and haven't touched it since.
I usually do the same but Valhalla was a gift that didn't include the season pass. At 175+ hours though, I've more than had my moneys worth out of it.
I'll probably pick it up on the next sale, whenever that is. Ragnarok though, I'll wait and see. Single player games don't have an urgency to be played. And as Medic_Alert said, waiting is always a good idea.
So many moans. So many groans.
@Bu1ld0g Yeah, that's a good idea. Give yourself a few moths to miss it, as it were. The SP will definitely have a sale at some point. How would you rate Valhalla, BTW? I really want to try one of the 'RPG' AC games, but the grinding and length puts me off. (Said the actress to the bishop)
@Fyz306903 You're still on PS4 yeah? Personally I would start with Origins. The gold edition goes for really cheap now and will be a good indication of whether or not the new direction is for you.
Me personally, I'm bias in that I absolutely love open world games and get side tracked so easily exploring things. I never found any of the latest 3 AC games to be a grind. Played the entirety of them all as stealth build.
If you do pick up Valhalla I would recommend turning on guaranteed assassinations. That way it plays more like a traditional stealth AC game. There are also options to level the playing field via combat difficulty. It removes the "grind", but dampens the overall experience of the game imo.
Both Odyssey & Valhalla play at 60fps on PS5
Long in which way full of filler or real story content? But im not really bothered with this abusive company that according to their staff have still to change their ways.
@fR_eeBritney reminds me of far cry series. its cut n paste to me now. its suffering CoD syndrome where there's a new game yearly or bi yearly now. far cry and AC games are just time waster games to me at this point - busy work while waiting for some other more interesting game to release. when i complete a far cry or AC game? i hardly remember anything in the game lol. except nice grafx i guess. they still havent done an AC game with ninjas.
far cry and AC are the "cheap romance novels" of gaming - they continue to sell, so, they continue to get made.
Had a lot of fun with Valhalla and it's 2 DLCs, and this sounds like almost a full-sized game as a DLC. I'll gladly buy it
Seems Ubisoft is now the company that all the 'cool kids' hate on I think EA is relieved.
@Alan_cartridge_ 40 hours seem fine tbf. I was only stating that 40 euros was a bit steep in comparison to other DLCs
@AFCC it wasn't my intention to single you out. More offering my 2 pence off your comment about price and expectations. All of this is subjective. 40 Euro is a gamble for a DLC. I can see why that would be viewed as expensive. 40 hours is longer than most games that are single-player focused however and massive for a DLC. AC of course is full of bloat tho.
@Alan_cartridge_ I took no offense, it's all good!
The thing is I think I payed less for the season pass (2 expansions) on sale, so I am expecting a meaty experience with this new dlc
Fair enough. The new trilogy has some of the best AC games in the franchise.
I find this very disappointing as I purchased the Valhalla special edition Berserker pack for $90 and I still don't believe the content I received was worth the price. The 2 DLC's that were included are just to short, I figured there would be more content. I also seen quite a few reviews/trailers for Ragnarok prior to it's release and not one pointed out it wouldn't be included in the season pass.
