Rolling start! Here’s a look at some unedited PlayStation 5 gameplay from the upcoming Gran Turismo 7, showcasing the returning Deep Forest Raceway. Fans of the franchise will know that this has been mainstay in all numbered entries of the Polyphony Digital simulation series, meaning it was conspicuously absent in Gran Turismo Sport.
There have been some alterations to the track for the latest game, including the addition of a hairpin bend towards the end of the circuit. However, much of the route remains intact, including its tunnel sections which will likely be etched into the memories of series veterans. You can compare how far the franchise’s visuals have come with this footage from the PS1:
The lighting, as is always the case with Polyphony Digital games, is absolutely extraordinary – and we actually think it’ll look better on an HDR screen, as YouTube appears to have washed out the colours a little bit. There is quite a lot of shadow pop-in on the foliage, which is a bit distracting, but something the developer could potentially fix before March.
One thing we’re particularly impressed with is the cockpit animations. The Japanese developer has added a ton of sway and bobble to the first-person camera to convey the bobbles of the road, and it looks absolutely superb. There’s not long to go until this game speeds to both the PS5 and PS4 now, and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel ourselves.

Smoooooooth!
It is smooth indeed, and some of the reflections are quite impressive. But there is a "sterile" feel that come with Gran Turismo games that quite doesn't do it for me.
I still play Driveclub regularly, and that game looks (almost) as good, or even better in my very subjective opinion, than what is shown in this video.
Now if I were to see it in person on a HDR OLED TV, maybe I'd be convinced...
@Olmaz don’t forget a top of the range soundbar with sub and rear surround speakers 👌
I’m not surprised at all. Absolutely first class and all about the driving and the driving sounds with killer visuals. Lol I’m still not buying it on launch but will probably break my 3 month minimum wait rule. Maybe 🤔 probably not tho haha.
I guarantee this isn’t even the finished product either cos who knows when this was recorded. As awesome as that looks I’m expecting it to be even better in person
I'll get this because I love gran turismo...but if you had told me that was the one I already own on PS4 I would have gone along with it. It still looks like they're using 2D backdrops. The trees do look better...but it all looks a bit too 'clean'. I was hoping for dust and exhausts and the sun showing the grime on the windscreen. Little things that all add up.
I just really hope the full experience is playable on psvr this time
I don't know. It looks unmistakenbly like a Gran Turismo game and the colors of the cars and trees do look great, but there's something about it that doesn't quite work (for me).
The on-roof reflections on the Mazda feel a bit cel-shaded, and the building you cross around the finish line looks more that of any old arcade racer than something real. Maybe it's an uncanny-valley thing. It starts to look so real that the non-real looking things pop up immediately.
@Bleachedsmiles there will be dynamic weather
Needs dust, flies and dirt. The game looks very sterile but I'm sure it will be a good game but it is a shame its cross gen.
I just don't think Gran Turismo is ever going to be the kind of game that simulates "grimier" details like dirt and dust. Its style has always strived for hyper-realism, with perfect lighting and ultra clean conditions.
Doesn’t matter how good any company makes a track based game they never do it for me.
I like more fun racers types.
Mario kart
Forza horizon 5
Motorstorm
It’s a shame Sony for now have left that
Type of racer.
I can’t wait for this, it looks amazing. Already got the digital deluxe version preordered.
Come on PSVR 2 announcement!!
I love Gran Turismo but everytime I buy it I play for like 3 or 4 hours and get tired of it! I'm more of an arcadey, smash things and bump other cars guy x)
@get2sammyb Yep, Gran Turismo is absolutely Kaz striving for a ‘perfect’ representation of what he sees racing as. Clean and crisp in every area, from the menus to the cars.
@Grimwood been skipping the need for speeds huh...stories didn't make them awesome. Latest F1 also has a story
It looks very cartoony for a realistic racer.
@kingbreww same, probably the only day one purchase I'll make for my PS5 for the foreseeable future. Still remember excitedly loading the original on my PS1.
Preordered for £56 so pretty happy with that.
Yeah the oh so clean Gran Turismo. I wish the creators wouldn't be scared to get them cars dirty and wrecked a bit more. It's why I stopped buying after GT4 and bought so many DiRT games ever since.
@Bleachedsmiles The camera stiffness makes it look like picture perfect cars on 2D backdrops even more.
Visually it looks pretty nice. Gameplay looked as exciting as a drive with miss Daisy though.
Make a new Rush game you cowards!
@Olmaz Wathched this last night on Youtube, through my Qled 4K. Amazing
I love GT, but how have they made driving at high speed look so darn boring? 🤔
Literally played Drive xlub 10 minutes ago. First time in over a year and one thing i noticed was the leaves that blow across the road. Looked really good.
I enjoy GT but I really miss the original Ridge Racer games....those were pretty damn fun to race in and the music was memorable
Looking forward to this but it looks a bit... meh...
Why did Sony treat driveclub with such contempt?
Is there a confirmed track list yet? Would love to see Trial Mountain and Midfield Raceway return.
Love that track. The game looks great and smooth as well. Looking forward when it releases.
Like usual lots of whining (about redundant things) here on the comment section, especially from those that aren't into actual slim-racers or GT in general... In the other hand, the game will do great with the actual fanbase. People are excited there.
Also people should stop with that whole Driveclub BS. The reason why there is no more Driveclub is because of customers discontented on the game when it released (and beyond that). There is no more Driveclub because it didn't do well in reviews (critics and customers) and commercially, simple.
@Bleachedsmiles a good storymode. 🤪
@Olmaz couldn’t agree more and GT always feels sterile to other racers. DriveClub was ace and a real shame it didn’t go any further
Porsche Vision GT was revealed today too.
@Royalblues Woah Eternal Champions - Shadow, Blade, Slash and co. 😆😆
I think this will be magnificent on PSVR2.
Wouldve bought it but not knowing it has a silly always online requirement
"Tree bien" .... common guys
Nostalgia trip. I love that track.
@-Sigma- https://www.pistonheads.com/news/electric-vehicles/porsche-previews-vision-gran-turismo-car-for-gt7/45016
Looks smart and in partnership with Gran Turismo.
Looks pretty average for supposedly next gen. Thought there'd be car destruction physics on ps5. Would only want to play this on PSVR2.
Much prefer a more focused racing game. After buying Day 1 Forza Horizon 5 and just like FH3 and FH4 I got bored after 10 plus hours....far too much tedious racing and quite samey approach to the single player elements. In the end it feels boring and a bit like RPGs with below average fetch quests that you do for the sake of it...
GT games have a more direct focus. I much prefer this style of racing game. I appreciate FH5 but it's far for the super game it's claimed to be...
@rpg2000 very true with regards to the reasons Drive Club failed...a shame as the game was good...I asked one of the Drive Club Dev team leaders about a 60fps patch for PS5.....pretty much no chance...I would love to see that.
This just looks like a halfbaked reskin of the last one. I don't see why the willful ignorance in how dated and sterile this looks. It's an early ps4 game as far as visuals are concerned.
GT NEEDS A NEW DIRECTION. without detail, a damage system, or any form of innovation, it's baffling it takes then this long a development cycle to pump out a glorified reskin of the same tracks with nothing new but some car models.
It's not about adding grime. Look at the damn road it has literally no detail. The crowd, the tracks in general all look terrible. This game is behind almost all current racing games in terms of sound, mechanics, physics,, ui, and visuals.
There was nothing simulation level real about that video except their attempts at lighting. Lack of real world detail absolutely breaks immersion, and this is laden with that. It feel like this developer just takes the ubisoft reskin route with development.
Sony needs to invest in a true flagship racing title because GT in this state and time has fallen far away from being it
Looks nice yes, but does it look exciting no.
This is just re hased tracks from the original and while they do look better, I want new tracks. The last GT I played was so boring with fewer cars than the original and only a couple of new tracks with an inferior soundtrack. Bring back what made GT so good and PLEASE get some new curcuits to drive round. To me, an XBox and Forza seem like a much more enjoyable option. So glad I bought that PS5.......
Duuudes, I don't really care how a GT game looks like. Sure, it helps when a GT game is taking the visuals to the next level but for me it's all about the feel and on PS there's nothing that drives quite as "accurately" as real driving as GT. To be honest, there's nothing quite like it on XB either.
Sure, you have your project cars and your corsas but, personally, I don't quite like the "feel" of driving in those. GT does it for me and GT Sport with its VR implementation did it to the point of "my white knuckles sweat bullets as I hurtle towards a deadly bend at 200 miles per hour".
Not sure if it’s me but the colours (especially on the trees) look way too over saturated in HDR. Could be YouTube I’m not sure.
Also to make it look less sterile, they need to add in some movement of the trees & crowd to give it some life.
Loving the camera movements & reflections but to me it looks like a small evolution over GT Sport - especially if there are still limits of 16 cars on the track & a binary clutch (c’mon Polyphony).
Fingers crossed the PSVR2 version is the full game & not held back by the previous gen limitations again.
Forza Horizon 5 has got my CarPG needs currently satisfied & Automobilista 2 has my VR & sim handling desires taken car of. I’m hoping GT 7 is the all in one solution!
Wonder if there will be an option to sit higher in the driver’s seat. The view looks like I’m going low riding. I don’t sit that low when I drive so it looks unnatural to me.
EDIT: plus, everyone knows sitting forward makes you go faster.
@Ichiban i would like a new split second or motorstorm apocalypse
Looks amazing. Can. Not. Wait.
@Grimwood Of all things I ever imagined hearing, "Days of Thunder videogame" in 2021 was not asking them lol
I will buy it as it is GT - but it isn’t that impressive judging from that compared to original rendered trailer. It doesn’t look too much of a jump compared to what will be a PS4 game too. I am disappointed with next gen so far. For all the money no proper next gen experiences other than resolution and (when used) ray tracing.
I might buy it on PS4 and then upgrade on my PS5. That way I'll have it on both consoles so I can compare. Judging by this video I'll be disabling ray tracing as the cars look too shiny.
My favorite car in GT6 was the lotus 111R. Hopefully it'll be in 7. It was so much fun to loose the rear end and balance it in a drift.
Day One Game Pass title. But seriously, I've never played GT and the PS5 is my first Playstation. Is the only view in-car for these games? I love racing games but I never switch the camera to in-car, makes it tricky and boring for me.
@nofriendo It'll have bonnet, in-car, roof cam and 3rd person cam.
I tend to use the roof cam in GT Sport since it gives a decent view of the track and close infront while keeping you connected to the car.
I would use the in-car cam but without VR, a lot of the dash and pillars block quite a lot of the view.
good grafx. i saw some tree pop-in though. not a big deal, but i did notice it.
i dont like GT because its TOO real as far as physics and control and i dont like the confined tracks. i prefer rally games where you can go from mud to asphalt to uphil in 1 race. or arcadey games like much underrated "midnight club." i even like the crew 2 a little. its open world, arcadey, decent grafx.
GT is for a specific crowd. i wonder if this is 4k 60 or 4k 120 we're seeing in the video.
The return of the notorious, Momoz, is ever close!
Be afraid for he will no doubt have a lot of pent up anger for all who dare to be in front of him at turn 1.
@Olmaz same man. The visuals do impress, the GT Sport on PS4 Pro was rad, but something just felt off. I didnt feel as connected to the game as I do with Forza, and up to that point, I played both pretty regular.
Drive Club, yeah, one of the best!!
@get2sammyb.......
Judging from the comments below
This looks the first GT game to be DOA.
And it seems the racing genre is experiencing a sterile phase. which it has bren ina slump of the entire PS4 generation ........ ...
@GREGORIAN I'm sure it'll do extremely well.
Man, you would think we have had a GT release per year based on these comments.
The racing is exciting when you are playing it. Paired with a great FFB wheel, nothing comes close to the fun it brings in my opinion. Super excited for this and the return of Deep Forest!
I don't think I've ever seen such an uninspiring racing game video. Utterly dull, no sense of speed and certainly no reason to buy a PS5.
@get2sammyb "hyper realism" without dirt, sand, dust. Doesnt paint hyper realism to me.
@Dezzy70 Rubbish. I've played Dirt 5, Wrekfest, Crash racing and hotwheels this year on PS5 and all of them were fun arcade racers.
None of them do it for me for more than a week, but I play GT games for years. I'm even bored of FH5 after lvl 200 and week or two of fun, it gets stale very quickly with nothing to strive for, and its shocking that you need to run it at 30 fps on the X to avoid the horrible pop in. Its still smooth, but we've waited a year for a next gen title on series X, so 30fps is uinderwhelming. I've a 3090 PC so I can at least run that in extreme 4K at high frame rates..
@Titntin
There won’t be any true next generation games until the game is not produced around last generation consoles and also developers are given time to learn and utilise the full potential of the new consoles.
Even the great ratchet and clank PS5 doesn’t really use the PS5 power or the fast ssd, digital foundry somehow run it on a standard drive and it only caused a split second worm hole delays. It’s was just clever tricks and programming.
Also just imagine the cost of development making a massive AAA game taking full advantage of new generation consoles. That’s one reason we are still getting cross generation games and of course user base etc.
