Dying to see more of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin? Square Enix has announced an upcoming live stream in which the game is set to feature.
On 18th December, the publisher will be celebrating the franchise's anniversary, as this is the date upon which the first game launched in Japan some 34 years ago. Stranger of Paradise is to be the focus, with the likes of Yoshinori Kitase, Tetsuya Nomura, and Masashi Fujiwara discussing the game and how it connects to the rest of the series. A sub-stream will also be running at the same time, which will be showing a playthrough of the original Final Fantasy.
This will all be in Japanese, but you can obviously still watch along through here. It's set to start at 7pm JST, which is 10am GMT for us Brits and, unfortunately, 2am PST / 5am EST across the pond. We're sure you will be able to watch it back later.
Hopefully the stream will show off some new footage and give us more info on the game, set for release on PlayStation 5 in March. Will you be watching Square Enix's stream on the weekend? Kill Chaos in the comments section below.

Seriously though, I'm actually weirdly excited to play this game.
Give me more Limp Bizkit and CHAOS
The full game better have Limp Bizkit on the soundtrack.
Will be chaos if they provide a sneaky update on FF16 during the event
Regardless of how chaotic the game turns out that cutscene with the phone will never be forgotten.
@Rob_230 Ooooh how cool would that be. Doubt they'd just drop it out of nowhere like that though.
Hopefully they just delay the game and embrace the CHAOS!
Yeah for some reason this is a game that I’m really excited about. Watched a few gameplay vids and the action looks great. I’m also a fan of the Nioh games, so whatever Team Ninja released next was always gonna be high up on my list!
@colonelkilgore Why though? Because everything I’ve seen from this far just baffles me. To me it feels like Square Enix are trying too hard to peak to a more mainstream crowd through via harming back to the earliest final fantasy (which some gamers may have not been alive to see, let alone understand) and draping it in a style and aesthetic that feels at odds with the intent of that game. The whole thing just looks and feels like an anomaly, puzzled by its own existence and oblivious to its own ridiculousness.
@Blackjay the combat looks awesome (to me at least)... and having played Nioh, I know how awesome Team Ninja can make their combat feel to play too. Couldn't care less about the connection to Final Fantasy... just looks like having some really satisfying combat.
Man, I wish FF was still good... ☹
The series used to be so special.
@invictus4000 I mean there's is the FF7 remake, FF14(From what I've been hearing), and with Yoshi P working on FF16 which is my most anticipated FF game right now FF is starting to look good again
@colonelkilgore Unfortunately it's not the Nioh's team working on this game. Kou Shibusawa's team is working on a Romance of the 3 Kingdoms game at the moment, and we don't know much about it.
Would love to see a Nioh-like during that period though.
I like DMC. I like FF. I'm not so fond of Limp Bizkit. And I really don't know about this....
@Athrum hmm, I did not know that... it doesn't mean that I still don't like what I see though. I watched a decent video of some journo playing through the second beta and it looked pretty great tbh.
@colonelkilgore Yes of course. One thing doesn't invalidate the other. I played both demos and I dig the combat, the aesthetic is kinda weird though, reminds me of that gears of war clone for the PS3
@Athrum I never play beta's as I have enough to play as it is and just wait for games to release. Also, I wasn't very excited having watched some vids of the first beta but the second one looked to have come along a bit, even though it was only a month or two later. Certainly doesn't look Matrix: Awakens level of looks but I didn't think it looked 'that' bad.
@colonelkilgore I guess if you are into or familiar with Nioh (which I am not), then you’re probably gonna be more optimistic for it. I just hoping the final product is more than some of its marketing would suggest.
@Blackjay fair enough mate... I'm just a huge fan of souls-likes and how the sub-genre is deviating from the initial template always intrigues me. Not even sure if this can still be called a souls-like but I remember the term being used during the initial leak.
CHAOS!!!!!!!!!!
Whew, just has to get that one out of my system. Sure, am intrested to see more i guess, more cause of Team Ninja then FF, personally.
@Nepp67 You're honestly right. FF7R had some major problems but was alright, and though I'm not into MMOs, 14 seems good. I'm really excited for 16 going old school again. Just knowing its medieval fantasy gives me hope.
Looking forward to the livestream, should be fun!
