Horizon Forbidden West launches in little over a month on PlayStation 5 and PS4, and Guerrilla Games is beginning to dig into the nitty-gritty. This trailer introduces some of the tribes you’ll encounter in the game, several returning from Horizon Zero Dawn, like the Oseram, Carja, Utaru, and Tenakth. Others will bring new threats (and, presumably, allies) to Aloy’s sophomore adventure.
To be fair, this trailer is teasing at its best. It talks of a new, mysterious tribe, stronger than any others which is sailing into the Forbidden West in search of secrets. Presumably this will be a big plot point, and you’ll probably need to wait until launch day to discover this fresh clan. It’s all looking and sounding extremely exciting, though, isn’t it?

Absolutely stunning.
It’s A Tribe Called Quest
I'm so ready for this i can't wait.
Genuinely don't understand why this is coming out on PS4.
Still only about 6 hours in to the first game. Something about it just didnt hold my attention. For the life of me i dont know why.
@elvisfan1 could have defenately be pushing more if it was exclusive. Just look at demons souls. Ps5 exclusive and the best looking game on the system imo from a technical perspective.
Cant wait to see what ps5 games look like in 4 years time.
Just let me play it now.... Stunning.
This video tells me two things:
1) the mysterious tribe beyond the shore, that's where we'll be going in the third game of the trilogy and
2) even though I'm sure Sony have more of these vignettes lined up pre-launch, this is probably a good time to shut myself off and avoid any more info before launch day...
I know they will, but I hope they don't show too much in the inevitable story and launch trailers. The marketing for HFW has been really smart about showing enough without providing specific story context.
@Kidfunkadelic83 That's it. I can't help but feel things have to be held back for them to be on older consoles.
@elvisfan1 My theory:
Game will have gone into development straight after it became apparent that Zero Dawn was going to be a big success, at which time PS5 dev kits were not available.
Game will have been designed from the outset as a PS4 title.
Granted Sony could have made it ps5 exclusive, but with 100 million plus ps4 users and supply constraints of the PS5, it also makes financial sense for the game to release on both.
For game to push PS5 to the max it would have had to be further delayed as they would have had to redevelop alot of assets rather than build off the PS4 base code
@Rob_230 all that makes sense to me thinking about it.
@Rob_230 Yeah good point.
@nessisonett Forbidden West Side.
Currently playing through the first game again to refresh the cogs as I last played the game when it first released and have never played the DLC. I've had the second game on pre-order since the first day it became available, and am really looking forward to diving into it as soon as it comes out...
@nessisonett If that we’re so it would be a day 1 for me!
I turned 58 last month, @Marquez, and the one 'advantage' of reaching that age is that I can barely remember what I ate for tea last night! Anything I watch now will be well forgotten by the time the game launches...
@Fiendish-Beaver Haha I’m not that far behind you - and it’s a fair point!
@elvisfan1 This game was created specifically for the PlayStation 4; it began development as a PS4 title in 2017 with that hardware in mind. This is a PS4 game that has been ported to the PS5; nothing has held it back because it was always meant to be this way. If this game were to be a PS5-only title, you'd be lucky to get a chance to play it by 2023 or later. Changing this to a PS5 only title now will not make the game better. The engine pipeline is set up for a cross gen title with scalability in mind.
Looks really good.i was just playing horizon zero dawn complete edition yesterday.amazing game.word up son
@Rob_230....... Thanks Rob my man...... You've given the best answer as to why sony is launching both HFW and GOWR on both PS4 and PS5..... These are now the big flag barrers.....along with the Spiderman franchise and GT.
Whereas the following titles launched on PS5 exclusively for the following reasons:
Rachet and Clank -
Revival/Proper reboot and see if Insomniac can take the franchise in a new direction
Demon's Souls -
To get a final test as to whether to continue with the franchise or cann it indefinitely, so far so good as its a niche series but will most likely be put on ice. It was also a title used to buy time to keep Bluepoint away from industry claws while reorganising the entire worldwide studios and XDEV to prepare for acquisition.
Retunal - Was a Sony originally a requested launch project/title and a test to make a final decision om whether to buy Housemarque which they passed with flyinh hence the acquisition.
Jesus this looks absolutely the same vusially as zero dawn. Decidedly ps4. Hopefully they at least improved on some of its game play shortcomings in a meaningful way. Cross Gen is absolutely holding everything back.
So many people in here thinking that HFW had to be on the PS4 because when they started developing it in 2017 or 18 they didn’t have dev kits boggles the mind.
1st: HZD launched in 2017 and they then continued working on dlc that launched in Nov of 2017. So, most likely work didn’t start on HFW until 2018.
2nd: They didn’t have dev kits… Do you guys really think that when these games are created in a time when switching from one gen to another that if they don’t have dev kits on hand that they can’t guess what’s the future tech’s PC equivalent will be? Also, do you guys really believe that a majority of these games aren’t developed on a PC equivalent?
The reason these games are actually PS4 games is because of all the crying that took place in late 2019 to early 2020 saying Sony better support cross-gen. It’s not fair. I just bought my PS4 in the last year or so. Sony was happy to oblige. They could make a ton more money double dipping with two consoles. I remember all the crying on various sites begging for cross gen after Microsoft announced it. In regard to HFW, I bet there will be a ton of things they wanted to do but had to scrap in the last couple years to insure the game ran well on the PS4.
@GREGORIAN @Rob_230 Both very likely scenarios regarding all those games.
Hopefully Horizon 3 will be a true PS5 exclusive.
@elvisfan1 it still looks stunning. that's your placebo eating at you. if you didn't know this was a cross gen game...you would be way more impressed. I'm still impressed...I don't care. I say it looks next gen to me.
@KundaliniRising333 you are blind.
@middyone I'm not arguing that it looks anything but amazing...BUT...how amazing could it have been if it hadn't had to go to PS4 as well.
Mind you, I'm sure we'll see when the inevitable remaster comes out in a few years.
@elvisfan1 lol I don't understand how ya'll dwell on what could had been all the time instead of seeing what we have and how far we've come. I mean you do know this happens every gen right. there's always cross gen games and then they start making exclusives. it's nothing new. god of war 2 was on ps2 and ps3. still looked good for it's time.
doubt it's getting a remaster but you never know.
