Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok is out in exactly one month, and Ubisoft is kicking off its marketing blitz with a six-minute gameplay deep dive video. If you want to go into the expansion blind, then we would recommend not watching this — but be safe in the knowledge that it looks like it could be pretty damn good, assuming that you're already a fan of Valhalla.
Once again, Ubisoft is stressing that this is the biggest expansion in franchise history — and going by this footage, that certainly seems to be the case. The map looks bloody huge, and surprisingly varied.
As you'd expect, Dawn of Ragnarok's got it all. A new storyline and characters sit alongside new abilities, weapons, and armour sets that you can unlock or discover. The video also notes that any skills or equipment from the expansion can be carried back into the main game.
What's more, it confirms that Dawn of Ragnarok is playable at any point after you've established your Ravensthorpe settlement in the main game. Much like the other DLCs for Valhalla, the difficulty will scale depending on how powerful your Eivor is.

As someone who's done everything Valhalla has to offer, I think this looks really good. I know not everyone is keen on open world AC (or the fantasy elements of the new trilogy), but the expansions for Origins, Odyssey, and now Valhalla have all been solid — sometimes even more interesting than the main game.
Expectations for this are actually quite high.
I didn’t really like Asgard or Jotunheim much at all in Valhalla so I’d be in this for the gameplay changes instead. They were just a nightmare to navigate and those collectibles were a joke.
Good lord i'm about 67 hours into valhalla and i'm really enjoying it..will purchase this at some point in the future but seeing as i've already set myself the seemingly impossible task of finishing valhalla before elden ring lands on my doorstep-it isnt going to be anytime soon..
10 years ago I would've never pictured an AC game taking a direction like this, and it looks pretty good!
@ShogunRok is this a standalone thing or do I have to own and complete Valhalla?
(Hoping its a standalone, I don't have the endurance for the main game)
@nessisonett are those collectibles needed for the platinum?
@TraCuz- Nah it's an expansion, not standalone — you need ACV to play this.
But you don't need to have finished Valhalla to start this. You can begin this expansion anytime after you've established your settlement in the main game (which is near the start).
@TraCuz- its standalone
@ShogunRok i thought it was a stand alone game?
@TraCuz- my bad...sorry i had bad intel..🤐
@Northern_munkey Nope, you need ACV. There were rumours that it was standalone before the official announcement, but it's not.
Ubisoft's even made a new version of Valhalla (boxed and digital) that includes DoR and the main game.
Can see why people might get confused, though. This basically sounds like its own game with how big it is.
Between the DLC work on Origins, Odyssey, and now this... all it says to me is that Ubisoft needs to separate these fantasy settings from the AC brand and create an all new fantasy IP that can let them go truly weird.
They seem to be moving closer to a Witcher 3 style fantasy world, but it's held back (IMO) by the AC IP (especially because the expansions can't truly embrace things like magic). Just let loose and give us something brand new!
They're suuuper close. And maybe some people are okay with this approach. But I think truly defining AC as historic-adjacent (as is) and then having a full blown bonkers fantasy RPG IP would just be better across the board.
@ShogunRok Ubisoft release multiple versions of the same game in a confusing and consumer-unfriendly manner? Noooooooo! Color me shocked.
@ShogunRok cheers for the info bud..appreciate it 👍
Very excited to play this, Ubi have done great work on AC expansion so i expect this will be excellent.
@Northern_munkey Yeah, all the stone things are needed as you have to 100% every area for the platinum.
Looks like a grown up Immortals: Fenyx Rising.
Or a poor man's Splatoon 2.
Why does this look so good tho? Very cool, I'll have to snag a copy of the base game on a future sale.
@nessisonett awesome..probably just added another month onto it for me 😭
This is not the Ragnarök I want...
I’ve got 113 hours into the base game and both DLC. I initially was excited about this but I feel burned out regarding AC. It doesn’t help my views on it with the brain dead comments from their management on NFTs either.
@nessisonett Asgard and Jotunhein were truly horrible to traverse and collect stuff, couldn’t agree more.
I'm so freaking hyped for this one! I really liked the new trilogy.
If this was a standalone game it would be a day 1 purchase for me. Valhalla, is what 60 hours long at least!? Not including the others DLC’s.
I played origins and was bored because of the length. So bit concerned about 100 hrs. Don’t think I’ll have the time to attempt this.
Hmm, I haven't even been to Ireland, that new place in oddysey or that other place let alone travel to a new place that is another 50 plus hours on top, I'm in no rush for the expansion atm
Oh my, this looks great. But march 10…. They got a lot to compete with. Will get to this after elden ring.
This looks good, but I think it’s gonna be hurt by it’s release date. By 10 March most people will be knee-deep in either Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, Gran Turismo 7...or all 3!
I like this, but...I don't know if I'm ready for 30 more hours of Valhalla. I didn't even finish the other two dlc...it's just a game that's too big and finishing the main game already was a chore at times.
Good timing on this DLC. After Forbidden west, Elden ring, GT7 and the Chrono cross remake are done here i can prolly pick this one up in a sale, and then i have something to do untill Xenoblade 3 or the next good PS5 games
I really, really liked Valhalla and both the Ireland and France DLCs but I just don't care about this. I just want more Eivor business in a new place. The worst bit of the game was the Asgard stuff.
Not watching this to avoid spoilers, but so glad they are going all in on this DLC.
