Still undecided on Elden Ring? This trailer will probably do the trick. While it does go quite heavy on locations and enemies – definitely avoid it if you’re on a blackout – it basically digs into everything you can expect from the upcoming FromSoftware open world RPG, spanning traversal to combat and everything in between. Honestly, it all looks phenomenal.
To be honest, it’s a shame this is launching so closely to Horizon Forbidden West, because both deserve to be explored thoroughly. This is truly an incredible trailer, though – the Rockstar marketing blueprint just works perfectly here – and will definitely get your pulse racing as you wait for the title to launch towards the tail-end of next week.

Damn those PS3 graphics looking fine!
@nessisonett lmfao right!!
The hype is real, but let's be honest, at some point the excuse game play over graphics won't justify Fromsoft milking the same engine for 3 generations thus far...
Still, the trailer has me hyped!!
What an excellent trailer. Absolutely cannot wait for Friday!!
Can’t get that hyped, I’m playing HFW 😁
Thursday at 10pm in my location.
@KundaliniRising333 I think Demon’s Souls has almost kinda undermined From 😂
@nessisonett absolutely. It's like look someone took your awesome game play, And brought the visuals up to current standards, so any excuses that one is prioritized over the other is a little bit laughable at this point. Especially when the team that did it was far smaller than Fromsoft
From Software are going to spoil Sony's party by the looks of it.
@nessisonett I mean have you seen the character creator? It's even challenging Demon's Souls Remake's which is real impressive.
Not sure whether I wanna see it. I even "regret" playing the Network Test. Can't remember when I was that hyped for a game. Poor Horizon will be on hiatus for quite some time.
I personally think it looks really nice. The art direction is incredible as always.
Yep. Looks like a FromSoft game with more square footage. Remind me again why this is going to redefine gaming as we know it?
Looks incredible to me! Can not wait!
I was forced to preorder Elden Ring or HFW, and have choose the former. I am addicted to Soulsborne gameplay and love the art design. HFW is amazing, but have to wait a few months untill I finish ER three timesat least.
Can’t wait to watch someone else play this game in a playthrough video! It looks exciting as a story, but let’s be real… either you enjoy what FromSoft does with gameplay or you don’t.
@Blackmagehobbit same. In typical fashion for me, I'll go for a STR pure melee build first on my first run, something with sorcery second and third we'll see. All that while continuing NG+ with my main. Good times ahead. Horizon is fun but it will be on a long hiatus
That BotW-esque map interaction in the open world was a great addition.
This'll probably be my first proper experience with a From Software game since Bloodborne back in 2015.
I mean, if you're not that much into the formula it's not going to change your mind.
The art style and amazing bosses/characters are incredible! The map looks varied and fun too! The graphics look kinda bad though...
This looks amazing. More my cup of tea than HFW. So psyched!
You can fight a hand?
10/10, sorry sony, xbox and nintendo. Elden Ring wins goty.
HFW and this are my games for this month. Love it! Lots of different experiences to play and have fun with. Can't complain.
@RevGaming Thats what won Mario 64 its GotY awards.
This looks amazing, I think we're looking at the first game of the year to break 90% on Metacritic and stay there.
@Dezzy70 Same here. I'm not going to watch the trailer as I know there's no point since Horizon Forbidden West takes priority over everything for me right now.
With that said, if Elden Ring truly is more accessible than any of their previous games in the end, I may give it a shot at some point. I have no interest in playing incredibly frustrating games like their past games, but if they did really make a real effort to keep it from becoming frustrating like those, then this will be my first attempt at one of their games eventually.
Looks rough? Check.
Looks outdated graphics-wise? Check
Looks a bit janky? Check
Will run like sh*t (probably)? Check
It's a FromSoft game through and through lol. There is nothing there we haven't seen before and it's still pretentious af. No trailer can change that.
BUT for those who stan the Dark Souls formula, this will feel like home. For me and probably many other gamers, it's a hard pass.
Can't wait, the world is beautifully crafted.
Not watching. Can’t wait. Got a feeling this is going to be the definitive FromSoft/Soulslike game and I couldn’t be more excited.
@KilloWertz
I enjoy adventure and exploring so Elden Ring has its draw for me definitely, but if it is frustratingly hard then I might even give it a miss altogether.
The most I ever got through a Fromsoft game was blood bourne, but for me Elden ring seems better and more accessible. I shall wait and see.
I'm currently running with Aloy, so this will have to wait. I'm not a complete fan. So this will really depend on what I watch and see if I actually can take a liking to it. I took a punt with Demon souls on ps5 and loved everything, platinum'd the game too. So just depends.
@Divergent95
I do think however more people will try this than previous dark souls games, mainly due to the fact of over marketing, and then unfortunately for some it will be a waste of money, these Dark soul type games just ain't for everyone
Awesome, it is pre-ordered and will arrive on release but it is going to have to wait until after HFW! Such a shame they couldn't be a few more weeks apart. Looks excellent though and will no doubt be worth the wait!
I’m going to pull the trigger on this one, it contains some new gameplay mechanics that make it appealing over other Dark Soulsesque games.
Man this looks awesome! I mean, there is nothing at all new here, but the scale and care taken in crafting this world is very impressive. For me though, whether I get it will depend on how much it respects my limited time. The backtracking and trial and error gameplay is why I don’t play souls-like games. If this can be more an actual rpg though, and ideally one where you can save at any point in case of death, I’ll definite be getting this.
Edit: just started reading the comments. Why are people saying the graphics are bad? Or have I missed the tone and they are joking?
Dark Souls 1 is still more fun for me than many newer games. These games have never really been about the cutting edge in graphics. It's the other stuff that lures us into these ominous worlds.
This looks great to me. My only issue will be juggling this, forbidden west and having to have a job 😆.
Just wrapped Demon Souls PS5 last week, time to preorder this one. No need to watch trailers, lets just experience what From have in store first hand.
@thefourfoldroot the graphics are not bad..granted they are not in the same league as hfw but bad? Not in the slightest..some people on here just have to try and be controversial sometimes..its a from software game so we all know its going to be a bit rough in places and harder than a nun in dr marten boots but its still going to be brilliant fun..and to be honest the demons souls remake dosnt look that much better graphics wise..
Can't wait to try it, die a lot and not see 90% of what the game has to offer 😂
Not interested, sandwiched as it is between Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. Two Sony games that require our support. 😉
I wonder if anyone will even buy it on Xbox though, probably waiting for it to hit Game Pass...in 2024.
Maybe I'll take the plunge myself at some point, when it's really cheap. Half-price or lower, at a price that I'm comfortable with giving it a try at least and see if it's worthwhile my sticking with it. I'm sure it's going to be a good game, but I hear Soulsborne and Soulslike and I shudder. These games aren't my cup of tea BUT for gift someone bought me Demon's Souls so I'll give that a go, see how far I get and it it gets too annoying I'll trade it in for something more enjoyable.
It looks incredible. They even explain stuff for a larger public that will jump in DS type of game for the first time. Treat yourself in not dismissing it because of supposed ‘difficulty’. DS games are only as difficult as you want them to be.
A shame there’s always insecure people trying to bash a game for no more reason than a mob mentality 😅
@Col_McCafferty
It’s cool man. Don’t hesitate to check out a guide if need be though. I think most of the bad reputation is because the games can be obscure and understanding is key. Demon Souls is also a bit funny because of worlds tendency and you need understand how that works.
Want to watch it but I better not can’t wait to get it!
@Northern_munkey
I agree. The Remake looks fantastic from a tech point of view but ER art style goes way beyond and it only makes sense.
I never played horizon zero dawn, but was planning on getting it and have watched a few recap videos on YouTube. I’m now thinking of getting Elden ring instead, only ever played dark souls 1 and got about half way through it before giving up! I’m not sure what one to get now, can only get one as GT7 drops the following week! First world problems lol
I'm very hyped for Elden Ring, but whether I buy it now or later is the question. I have absolutely no interest in HFW. The reason is; I recently completed Demon souls on PS5, so I thought to myself "I'll play HZD in the run up to the released of HFW.
HZD has been in my backlog for a few years and I never got round to playing it.
I'm not joking after 3 hours I gave up due to boredom. It was probably a bad idea to play it directly after Demon souls. It was just too dumb for my liking. The whole thing seemed pointless. I love Killzone 2/3 and I love Killzone shadow fall where others didn't. I respect guerilla games but Horizon is not for me I'm afraid.
The biggest source of frustration for me, which is why I bounced EARLY off of Dark Souls Remastered and Bloodborne (the only two From games I've attempted), is losing progress, the inability to save before tough encounters. I understand that some very ill and unhealthy people enjoy this challenge, but as somebody who often plays a game in easy mode to make sure I don't get shoved out of a story I'd like to enjoy, I absolutely cannot abide such punishing mechanics in a game. As for Elden Ring, I would LOVE to explore this world and uncover its mystery, go up against these incredible looking foes, but if it's going to treat my time and sanity with the same gleeful hostility I will take a pass. Looking forward to reviews!
@Sir_funkington Zero Dawn was incredible when it came out, but Forbidden West has rendered it virtually redundant. My advice is, watch a Zero Dawn story recap video (Forbidden West gives the excellent story of the first game a very brief overview, not enough info IMO), then purchase Forbidden West immediately and lose yourself in this absolutely incredible science fiction world full of memorable characters, exploration, danger and mystery (and save points!).
Game of the year nominee.this game will be a instant classic. I will be playing as a astrologer.the magic looks really good.this trailer is amazing.word up son
The first game I've preordered in some time
It looks very nice but truthfully I've had enough of dying over and over in Fromsoftware's games. It was fun before but not now. I play games to relax and unwind, to escape from life's woes not to be even more stressed.
This game and genre is not for me anymore.
@dschons I go with a dex/str built in the first playthough and in the NG plus and beyond go after the magic. For all souls games I need to start another playthrough immediately after finishing the NG.
I think I just filled the cup
Played the Beta and was more than satisfied with the graphics on PS5!
@Northern_munkey "honest the demons souls remake dosnt look that much better graphics wise."
Okay I think you jump the shark with that statement 😅 Fromsoft themselves already said "yeah our game doesn't look that good so our bad" more or less so I'll take their word for it but I get it that graphics aren't everything 🙂
@Northern_munkey not really considering the graphics anyway, we know all that stuff simply from the two screens sandwiched between the Horizon ones it’s just on another appealing level of art. I have this great fear; I shell out like 20 bucks on HZW way down the road and cutting my loss as still don’t get it like I didn’t the first
@Juanalf yeah i read that too but i'm speaking from a personal oppinion and to me there isnt a massive difference..demons souls looks very nice granted but it isnt that better visually especially the interiors..elden ring appears to be on a par and demons souls just hasnt got the wide open vistas so i suppose its wrong to compare the two..
Game looks amazing, but will be waiting for it to hit $30 New or cheaper like with all Souls-like games...
Hopefully this game is easier to play than previous Souls games when I finally get around to trying it out.
I put on hold my purchase of Forbidden west, as I plan to play everything out of Elden Ring first.
I will wait and see if there are difficulty options. Don't have the time now to play a bone crushing ego defeating game similar to Dark Souls again. But if there is an Easy difficulty for the 1st time in FromSoftware game I might look at it.
I don't usually go for difficult games. I have Demons Souls on PS5 and while I enjoyed it, I didn't get too far; well I am still battling away now and then. I just love the atmosphere and being there in the environment. I am in two minds with this. Its not a huge price compared to other PS5 games, GT7 is around the corner but the idea of the open world and exploring and maybe avoiding or picking your encounters has me intrigued.... Its does look absolutely amazing.
