If you have pre-ordered Horizon Forbidden West through the PlayStation Store, the option of pre-loading the title ahead of release should now be available to you. The download in Europe sits at 90.55GB and is currently patched to version 1.03. Meanwhile, the game's size in the US is a few gigabytes less. That's most likely due to the number of language packs included in the European version.
Horizon Forbidden West launches for PS5, PS4 on 18th February 2022, so the icon will be sitting on your home screen for one week before it's ready to play. We'll have a full PS5 review for you to read on Monday.
However, as we have previously reported, there's a way of getting the game for $10 cheaper. Horizon Forbidden West offers a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade after Sony backtracked its decision, meaning you can get the PS5 version for $60 by purchasing the PS4 edition and then immediately upgrading. This applies to both the physical and digital versions. The only problem is you can't pre-load the PS5 version if you're going to follow this method.
You'll need to wait for the game to release on Friday next week and then head into the PS Store to grab your free PS5 upgrade. Which route are you taking? Simply pre-loading either the PS4 or PS5 version or waiting so you can take advantage of the free upgrade? Make your decision in the comments below.

Quick edit. You've got the release date as January 18th instead of February 18th. I know lots of people are excited for the game but turning back time to play it quicker is unfortunately not something us normal folk can do.
"Horizon Forbidden West launches for PS5, PS4 on 18th January 2022"
Ahem, at least you remembered it's 2022 now Liam
It’s a shame we can’t preload the PS5 upgrade versions but dems the rules.
In fairness, the weekend is nearly upon us and I'm pretty sure we'll all knackered.
@Futureshark @pip_muzz Thank you, edited 😂
Wondering if GameStop will send me out a code for pre-load...
Getting this on a disk, so no pre-load for me... I shall be training my internet wires for the 18th so that bandwidth is nice and fast.
I haven't pre-ordered yet but I'm torn on whether to get this digitally or go for the physical edition. I'll try and decide before the weekend is out.
3rd Feb 1959 - The day the music died
18th Feb 2022 - The day that Gamepass died
Crumbled and got the disc version for £35 through the power of Amazon vouchers and then actively sending me emails like BUY BUY BUY BUY IT NOW HERE’S £5 OFF
And there goes 70 quids from my bank account.
Edit* I now feel like a right mug seeing that @nessisonett got it for £35!
Already bought a load of store credit at 12% off, which I'll be spending £79.99 of as soon as the embargo lifts
Agreed. I actually cancelled my physical copy preorder 2 days ago. Might as well wait for the insane price to drop in the second-hand market.
as much as I am interested in HFW, Elden Ring will take center stage.
Anyone know if the PS5 download is smaller than the 90GB?
Does anyone know the size of the PS5 upgrade?
@colonelkilgore
Game Who 😊
Can’t wait for this
Review embargo lifts 14/2/22 8am GMT
VALENTINES Day, we love Aloy
@fabiotc @NeThZOR It's 90-ish gigs
Looks like it's time for me to go dark for a bit so no pushsquare or YouTube as some ***** will no doubt spoil the game even though the regulars here are mostly lovely people.
I’m not ready. I haven’t even started Dying Light 2 yet. Agggghhh! 😱
@lolwhatno I asked in another article, they have. The review embargo lifts on the 14th so I'd expect a review around then
Thanks got ps4 disc version for £55 instead of £65
90 odd gb, when dying light is around 25gb. That's quite a difference
@lolwhatno "We'll have a full PS5 review for you to read on Monday."
@ApostateMage To be fair I had £10 left on my Amazon account cause of Christmas. So I got £5 off from Amazon’s incredibly aggressive sales tactics and then another £10 from the account credit.
I don’t care I’m going digital full price
On my PS5. Got Friday the 18th of work as well.
@Dezzy70 Out of interest, why would you go full price when you can get the PS4 version digitally for cheaper and get the exact same product?
I have pre order it, i will pre load it tonight! Thanks for the headsup!
Can't wait for the review!
Firstly yes get the PS4 version if you have a PS5, get the free upgrade and secondly who thinks this one will be the first 10 out of 10 reviewed game? Based on the last excellent game many years ago now which saw high praise but most if not all gave it 8’s and 9’s I think this one be a 10. The hype around this isn’t Cyberpunk 2077 level and being a different studio I reckon we’ve got nothing to worry about, Aloy will return and boy are we gonna know about it. This years game of the year. I hope anyways.
I paid extra for a box but so be it. Pre-ordered physical copy with Base.com for just under £61.
It's going to be worth every single penny and then some.
What a month for gamers and March looks pretty downright cool with GT 7 releasing early that month.
Yep. Preloading this legendary game.
ELDEN RING arrives just one week later. Will push this back and get it on sale.
@nessisonett
Good question really, just so I can preorder tonight PS5 Version and let it download, which with my internet will take about 4 days and I have nothing to think about and play on release.
I know a waste of £10 but I’m going the super simple route.
Anyone want the free ticket for uncharted movie code is INTS3000056894363
Just go to cineworld website to redeem it.
@Dezzy70 That makes sense if your internet’s a pain, I guess it’s an extra tenner for convenience!
Wow, Just under a 100GB on the PS5, I wonder how big it is for PS4.
So you already have the game and you already know if it's AMAZING or not. TELL US. TELL US NOW.
I’ll give it a couple of weeks. The recent “teething issues” of high-profile games from a range of studios has put me off preorders completely.
My current strategy: resist temptation for as long as possible (a couple of days to a few weeks for this one), and eventually grab it from a shop during the commute home (normally after a couple of Friday work beers).
Pre ordered digital edition on PS5 and everything else can wait.
Seen people saying "yeah, but Elden Ring", but its absolutely the other way round for me, Elden Ring can wait for me.
No From Soft game has ever had the resonance with me that the first horizon game had, so there is no other title I'd rather play than Forbidden West.
Does anyone here know if you can pre download twice? I have two PS5's and want it on both so both myself and my wife can play it at the same time...
Preloading on PS4. I'm curious about the reviews, lifting the embargo Monday shows they have some confidence that reviews will be positive. I'm excited either way 🥳🥳
Can I just preload the PS4 version and wait until 2/18 and make the free upgrade?
Will get it a'ways down the line.
Elden Ring first, launch edition for £45.
Hoping reviews are 8+ across the board for this though.
@lolwhatno thanks m8, hopefully whoever picks it ups enjoys the movie.
@andy24king unless they cleaned up some of the problems with the original, I don't see it being above 8s and 9s. The first one was decent but it also had a lot of the stereotypical open world problems. Icons all over the map Leading to reptitve activities, collectibles, and side quests. The combat, while fun, basically boiled down to a repitive affair when you settled into the few weapons and tactics that worked best. The material gathering was so lame and dumbed down to like 4 things when the original design accounted for more. The character models and dialogue cut scenes looked like animatronic robots talking in a theme park.
If the game is as much of the same as above, with essentially the same visuals just like the upcoming God of War game also held back by Last Gen, it shouldn't get a ten. Especially if it just turns into another ubisoft style giant map of icons to chase.
It needs more than new locations, machines, and and minor traversal additions.
Sony is all about the goties.
@MatthewJP That's because Dying Lighty ain't goty.
I'm getting this game! PS5 disc version yes, I can get the PS4 and upgrade, but the resale value is lower than the PS5 after a couple of months. So you get back the money afterward!
@Qu1n0n3z it's exactly what I did...
Downloaded ~80GB for the PS4 version today... now wait until the big day to upgrade (and download again) to the PS5 version.
@nessisonett "why would you go full price when you can get the PS4 version digitally for cheaper and get the exact same product?"
One thing that worries me, probably unnecessarily, is what if Sony finds a way to screw this up? I'm assuming they know if you bought the PS4 or PS5 version digitally. What if the dlc is free if you bought the PS5 version but $15 if you bought the PS4 version? What if the PS5 purchase carries over to PS6 in 5 years but the PS4 doesn't?
I mean sure, there's no reason for Sony to screw the up, but their handling of backwards compatability has been a bit hit or miss.
I do feel better w/ the digital, maybe PS6 won't read PS4 discs, only PS5? Can the PS5 read PS3 discs?🤷
"the PS4 edition and then immediately upgrading. This applies to both the physical and digital versions. The only problem is you can't pre-load the PS5 version if you're going to follow this method. You'll need to wait for the game to release on Friday next week"
Push square and I have a very different understanding of the word "immediately". 😂
So, so stoked for this.
I just switched on my ps5 to download it and the ps4 version was already sat there on on my external hard drive (90.4 gb)
@MightyDemon82 Definitely happened to me in the past. The Joker movie was spoiled for me because of a YouTube thumbnail. God of War was spoiled for me too in the same way and many others.
I even hate the titles that are like, "What that surprise character in Forbidden West means for The Last of Us series!" Yeah, thanks buddy. Now I know to expect a surprise character and it has to do with The Last of Us.
I loved seeing the game icon pop up when I hopped on my PS4 last night. It looks so beautiful.
Why not make language packs optional to save abit of space
so if i buy the ps4 disc copy i can upgrade to the ps5 copy right ?
I'm almost out of Space on PS5, I just have enough space left to install this. Now if only I had the power to speed up time so next Thursday at 12am could get here quicker.
@twitchtvpat Yes. But you must insert the disc into PS5 everytime you want to play or download the PS5 digital version. Stupid I know but that's what it says. If I were you I would buy the Digital Deluxe Edition if you want both versions digitally without the need of a disc, that's what I would do personally.
Anyone who is wondering about download size on PS5...As of 2-11-2022 Forbidden West is 87.66 GB. Not sure if there is day one patch coming. Make room for that as well. Hope this helps. Have a safe and blessed day.
Buy 2× £30 PSN Top Up for £26.99 from CDKEYS and buy the PS4 version from the PS Store via Web browser. You get the free PS5 upgrade and it will only cost you £53.98. 😁
I preordered the Deluxe Physical Edition for PS5.
It’s the sequel to my favorite PS4 game. So I wanted the steelbook with a PS5 disc inside.
