Sony is once again allowing anyone to play their PlayStation 5 and PS4 games online without the need for an active PS Plus subscription this weekend. From 12th February 2022 through to the 14th, the paid membership won't be needed to take part in some hectic multiplayer action. Sony highlights the likes of Monster Hunter World, Fall Guys, and NBA 2K22 to promote the weekend of free play, but the offer actually extends to every PS5, PS4 title with multiplayer capabilities.
If you want to take advantage but are unsure of what to play, check out our Best PS5 Online Multiplayer Games and Best PS4 Online Multiplayer Games guides for some suggestions. The offer is themed around Valentine's Day, so if the other half wants to head online, there are no excuses now. What PS5, PS4 game will you be playing? Let us know in the comments below.

PlayStation has online now?
@Kooky_Daisuke
I've been saying that for a while. Go back to basic free online play for people that just want access and perhaps a paid version for lobby priority and DLC/content special bonuses.
It would definitely be one over on Xbox who still charge for XBLG online paywall and may attract people to PlayStation.
Or just drop PSPlus altogether and have basic free online play.
Myself I play co-op with a friend 2-3 times per year if I'm lucky so I wouldn't bother with a paid online if I didn't have to.
Even Nintendo now charge £20 per year for online play.
@GADG3Tx87 Don't think Sony can realistically do that. Plus brings in too much money for them to drop the one feature that makes it borderline mandatory.
@AdamNovice
Yeah I know. It's just wishful thinking. Since all console platform holders do it now it's unfortunately here to stay.
Although depending what this Spartacus turns out to be. 🤔
@GADG3Tx87 The only way I can see Sony dropping online is either 1. MS do so for Xbox which puts pressure on Sony or 2. Spartacus becomes such a great value prospect that they can afford to drop the online requirement.
@AdamNovice
Honestly with the way GamePass is I can actually see MS dropping XBLG in the future, it just won't make sence anymore.
And if Spartacus becomes successful maybe Sony will. But Sony have more to lose than MS, it's far easier for them.
@AdamNovice Y'all keep spouting this "Don't think Sony can do that" or do this drivel. Who would've thought they'd spend $3.6B on Bungie. Online MP has been Free on PS before, it's not impossible. Who would've thought Xbox would be doing these insane buyouts...

People are getting really fed up of paying for online access when their friends on PC are getting a free pass, pay walls just go against the cross-platform future of multiplayer gaming. sony and microsoft see this. It's a very expensive killer ace up phil spencers sleeve and damocles sword for sony! Will he pull it? How will sony respond?. I think we don't have long to find out
@Indoorhero
Oh dear. That would be outrageously bad. If Sony gave someone who subscribes one month the same games as someone who subscribes for 12 years, that person paying money for 12 years would feel super cheated.
If online went free like it use to be I’d drop Plus in a heartbeat.
Plus is nowhere as good as it use to be. The sales now just repeat the same SaLes over and over.
They know that though. If they dropped online, it would destroy current Plus subscriptions.
I always have PS Plus so this is just another weekend to me XD.
I swear some people act as if they know nothing about businesses. Of course Sony won't drop ps+ requirement for online play. They make way too much money from it. Even Ninty charges for it, without offering much.
@TheArt Your comparison is invalid. Just because Sony did something unexpected, it doesn't mean they will make decisions that will hurt their profits. They have zero reason to do that. Especially after ps5 has been constantly out of stock everywhere for over a year.
@TheArt exactly this! I remember the PS3 days, good times in that department at least.
@GADG3Tx87 couldn’t agree more. I barely play online and when I do having to pay just feels so old fashioned.
@naruball if you average £40 per year, Sony are making around £2Billion from PS Plus
@Luigia Yup. That's a significant amount for Sony.
@naruball Sonys value is 155Billion just wish they’d give better PS Plus games when they make so much money
@Luigia agreed. They most certainly could, but know they don't need to.
They should make it free again :-/ (online play) Shame they copied Microsoft. Oh well.
The only way to realize subscribe and to paired Xbox is to implement Xbox GamePass on PS5, whatever they do with Spartacus, that's never be good as GamePass... I solve that problem with buying myself a new XBSX console!!!
