With the release of Gran Turismo 7 next week, Sony will have effectively emptied its release slate. We know that God of War Ragnarok is due out this year, but it’s still not dated – and beyond that, there’s only Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine on the horizon. Neither game is likely to launch until late 2023 at the earliest, of course.
PlayStation is also partnering with Bethesda on Ghostwire Tokyo, but there’s no question that its marketing department will need to transition to a new set of titles soon. There’s still much work to be done promoting Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7, of course – both titles will get pushed right throughout the year – but at some point fans will want to know what’s next.
Some social media rumourmongers believe we may find out in March, although it should be stressed that this is all based on vague hypotheses and educated guesses. For example, Tom Henderson points out that Warner Bros has been waiting to show off Hogwarts Legacy and Square Enix promised updates on Final Fantasy XVI – both are likely to be promoted hard by PlayStation.
There’s also been a lot of talk of The Last of Us lately as well, with multiple projects apparently nearing completion – and then there’s PSVR2 and Sony’s rumoured PS Plus overhaul, Project Spartacus, looming in the background. When you look at it all like that, we suppose it would make sense for some kind of showcase soon.
Of course, it’s worth reiterating once more that nothing has been confirmed, and despite a number of other so-called “insiders” jumping on the Twitter bandwagon, we’ve yet to see any evidence that extends beyond educated guesswork. Our view is that some kind of livestream seems possible relatively soon, but it’s not unusual for Sony to keep us in the dark these days either, is it?

I think one is very much due. Spider-Man 2 (and I guess Wolverine but that's AGES off) are the only PS5 exclusive games on the horizon. Sony has yet to really convince me to get a PS5, and whilst I know it'll make games like Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok play a bit better, I don't think I can justify £500 on a slightly prettier game. I need exclusives to drive me to get that purchase, and all of those exclusives are still coming to PS4. If they have a great showcase soon promising lots more PS5 exclusive games coming though, then I'm much more tempted...
What are the chances of PS5 Pro announced at the showcase?
I'm pretty pessimistic on how Sony has decided to move forward with these minimal showcases. It used to be that there was something for everyone shown. Now it's... what single game of little interest to me will be shown.
@KnightRider1982 0%.
Forspoken, maybe?? Feel like they’ve been pretty quiet on that one lately
Maybe the Spartacus announcement?
I could believe it. I always figured we wouldn't hear any major news until after GT7. It would be the perfect time to make some big announcements.
But this is Sony we're talking about, perfect timing isn't one of their strengths. So I guess we'll wait and see.
Makes sense. I feel like Sony has enough of a loaded schedule in February and March to have us waiting in anguish for what is after… what we are just now getting. We gamers are an anxious and impatient lot, aren’t we?
In all honesty, as much as I want a Sony showcase, I feel Xbox is the console currently languishing in silence. I’m hoping March has a showcase for both. A good bit of competition never hurts.
It will be 30 Minutes with 10 of those being wasted on Ghostwire Tokyo lol. One reason why I love Nintendo Showcases is that they dont spend too much time on Games that already had 17281 Trailers
@somnambulance Xbox seems trapped behind the old model of reveal everything at E3 and then mostly silence.
I'm excited for a big showcase from Sony but if it doesn't happen then I would look to late April or Early May.
That's when Forspoken will get a State of Play because I know some people are still iffy or not sold on that game yet. I hope they will improve the framerate, facial animations and the VA. This game could be a sleeper hit, which I hope it is.
After Ghostwire there's a bit of a gap until Forspoken comes along in May. I was expecting some kind of an event just to fill in the gap in April.
Hoping to hear something about Spartacus. Would love to be able to stream the old Resistance and Killzone games on PS5.
@Shepherd_Tallon you can steam those already with PS now mate. Can't remember if all the resistance games are there, but I did see all the KZ games.
@BranJ0 well done on the hold out. Now let those of us who bought one enjoy it. Some of you folk...
I hope to get to see some more of Marvel’s Midnight Suns and PSVR 2!
@EquiinoxGII I genuinely didn't realise they were on it. Thanks for the tip.
Although I'd rather not go for a second subscription service from the same platform, so I'll probably still wait for now to see what happens with Spartacus.
But thanks again!
Wikipedia says there's only six games that are PS5-only. Is that number right?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_5-only_games
I'd love some more info on Stray, Little Devil Inside and something, anything in fact!, on Factions.
I think Forspoken could end up being the surprise of the year. Hopefully they're polishing it up and refining it as I type.
What I want to see:
First Party:
Second Party:
Third Party:
and I'm going with a wild guess, but The Callisto Protocol will be in here.
If sparticus lets us play our 'old games' and introduces a rental service similair to gamepass then it would probably be announced to fill the gap.
Either way, until its announced then who knows
We had some great games recently (SIFU, Aloy2, Elden Rings and upcoming GT) but none of them RPG's.
Hope for a KOTOR release date! Also info about Persona 6 and XVI,
Hopefully something to do with last of us !!! Abby side story, factions, remake of the first last of us
@QBGaming12 I really doubt they can improve facial animations and Voices in matter of months. The framerate issues are enough alone. Forspoken needs to be delayed.
Bioshock must be gearing up for official announcement so I’d put this in the mix with Hogwarts too.
Spartacus and Discord announcements in the next one too I suspect but only if it’s not about a single game like the GT one.
@KnightRider1982
On a scale of 1-10?
Negative 8 out of 10.
@KnightRider1982 there's a PS5 with 0 disc drives and a PS5 with 1 disc drive. So I think the next one they'll announce is a PS5 with 2 disc drives.
Dragon dogma 2.sly cooper collection.resistance trilogy collection.max payne 4.bully 2.manhunt 3.bioshock.bioshock 4.etc.i want those games.word up son
@Shepherd_Tallon yeah I managed to snag a cheap sub when it was on sale here, think I paid like £20 for the year which was decent.. not that I've used it much.
@RevGaming 6 months is a lot of time for a game to improve all of that stuff, especially with this being that Studio's first game. It should be all hands on deck for that. Also if it gets pushed back a month or so that wouldn't hurt it.
@QBGaming12
1-2 months could help. Idk when will GoWr release but stay away from that.
@playstation1995 Damn. You're right.
I add:
@Grumblevolcano Xbox seems trapped in a Gamepass model that isn’t delivering much solid content. I’m beginning to wonder if Xbox is going to just whiff it til the E3 season and rely solely on Elden Ring and Gamepass. Seems insane, but what do I know?
I've been so deep in Horizon Forbidden West, I didn't even think about the fact that Sony has nothing in the pipeline besides GT 7 and God of War Ragnarok and, of course, the Playstation 5 carrier, Insomniac Games's Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine.
Everything might be possible at this point. Some announcement from Bluepoint maybe. Team Asobi could showcase some Astro magic. Naughty Dog definitely got some ammo ready to blast.
Third-party like Hogwarts gotta be there. Little Devils Insides release date. FFXVI hopefully.
We really barely know anything from Sony's lineup, do we?!
@RevGaming oh yeah.and cant wait for dead space remake.one of my favorite game of all times is getting a remake.word up son
@RevGaming you push it back a bit like that then you have to deal with Saint's Row(even though some people trash that game) and whatever else might surprise us this summer.
It all depends how the game looks in the next few months.
@playstation1995 I think that'll be on a EA play showcase.
@QBGaming12 I think Forspoken will trump Saints Row.
@BranJ0 I'm more than fine with the PS5 upgrades and quicker loading times!
I want to hear them announce Snowboard kids remake and announce that they have acquired Sega! And that they are funding Sleeping Dogs 2 as a platform exclusive.
You would hope so lol. Saint's Row needs it's own showcase as well to get people back into that series.
I do have high hopes for Forspoken, especially once Sony starts pumping out trailers all over the place for it.
@Apfelschteiner. Sleeping dogs is amazing.give me dragon dogma 2.metal gear remake.and max payne 4.word up son
@RevGaming. Dead space remake will be amazing.word up son
They need to do something. Because the excitement for whatever the future holds for PS is pretty bleak outside of GOW.
I'm sure there will be a state of play for God of War soon
@RevGaming isn't firesprit doing twisted metal ?
i can't wait to see what they are working on
@twitchtvpat Well they have two projects. One SP and one MP. They're 300 strong.
I bet one is close to being showcased.
Deviation seems like they might show their game next year too
Can I replace the 825gb ssd inside the PS5 with a 1 or 2tb ssd?
@KnightRider1982 no , well i'm sure you can unofficially do it , but you'd have to take apart the ps5 to do it. you can easily just add in the extra hard drive in the 2nd port instead.
i'm going to be honest , we know they are working on a bunch of games , so i'm excited to see what they will do next. but i like the fact , we don't really know whats coming yet, so they'll still have a few surprises hopefully in store for us.
Fingers crossed that we do get a PlayStation showcase in March!
