The extremely promising DNF Duel has held our attention since its surprise announcement last year, and now it has a release date. The beat-'em-up, which is based on the Dungeon Fighter Online RPG, drops on the 28th June for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Much like Arc System Works' current champion, Guilty Gear Strive, DNF Duel promises rollback netcode for smooth online matches. For what it's worth, the game seemed to run really well during its beta tests back in 2021.
Now that we have a release date, it's fair to assume that more character trailers and additional network tests are incoming. Is DNF Duel on your watchlist? Pick a character class in the comments section below.

Definitely on my watchlist, not necessarily day 1 purchase though, if a purchase at all.
While I'm not sure if it's for me, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into anime fighters or fighters in general.
I loved the beta, and anyone just looking for a good time, this is it.
But I would like help with a fighting game issue I have.
I love fighting games, so much, I play them daily actually, but I only do it with computers. my true 2d fighting game was fighterz, and I know the bread and butter, and I even learned a bunch of combos for GT gogeta, and more, but everytime I go online in these games, I just can't, faster heart beat, sweaty hands, anx, I just cant for the life of me, I used to, but Idk what happen.
I just think in my head im going to get ruined, and I know this, but I just can't touch online, but whenever I force myself, like with this game, I love it, and I enjoy my time with it, and I don't even think about losing, even tho some of that remains.
My current fighting game I'm enjoying is skull girls, but I just can't touch online, if anyone has any tips, I would love it, I just know there is a way, that one thing that will make me go online, its hard for me to even go online for games like smash, and I play a lot of smash.
This does look a lot like Guilty Gear Strive no? You could show me this as DLC and I would believe it lol
@AFCC It's using the same engine and some design aesthetics from Guilty Gear xrd.
@rachetmarvel Sad. i found guilty gear strive at least to be to slow for me, i was hoping for something a little faster pace like blazeblu can be. i was unable to enjoy Strive. and i actually like the Dungeon fighter mmo attacks and all. what a shame.
@Travisemo007 I didn't say the gameplay was like Strive, I said it's visuals were borrowed from xrd, which was the Guilty Gear game before Strive.
I played the DNF beta, and the pacing was a bit slower than Strive. DNF also doesn't have airdashing. If you want a recent fighting game that's faster than Strive, you can checkout Melty blood type lumina and kof 15( closer to street fighter in terms of gameplay.).
Or you can try Blazblue CF on PC,since it has rollback and you can find people on there. You can also try Guilty Gear ac+r, the Guilty Gear before xrd, a blazblue fan would feel right at home,plus it has rollback on PC.
@rachetmarvel @Travisemo007 Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, which just came out (it’s a re-release of the arcade version of the game) also looks very “BlazBlue-ish” to me. That one launched without rollback but it’s getting it in an update this summer.
And yeah, DNF is definitely a slower game than Strive.
@Snatcher
You might have just not found the one that clicks with you enough to keep at it. I'm pretty similar in that I only go online in SFV or DOA6 but I play many fighting games. For me it's just those two in particular click with me on a level that I'm comfortable knowing I'm at least going to win as much as I lose online instead of just getting stomped constantly.
For example people say Guilty Gear Strive is the most approachable fighter out there right now but for myself, I just can't nail down all the mechanics and inputs that game demands while also dealing with how fast paced it is. I prefer the more slower pace of a Street Fighter or Dead or Alive game.
So in conclusion, you might just need to figure out what fighter just clicks with you on a level that allows you to operate confidently and perhaps Dragon Ball simply isn't it.
Hope my long answer possibly helped!😂
@Korgon You should give DNF a shot.
It is slower pace then Strive, it doesn't have as many system mechanics as Strive for you to learn, It has optional directional inputs( meaning you don't have to do quarter circles and the lot to do your special moves), It is much more ground based than Strive like SF5 is, and it has better netcode than both SF5 and DOA.
@rachetmarvel
That is what I've heard from some of my buddies that played the beta too. DNF does look great from the trailers like all of Arc System Works fighters. I probably give it a shot at least even though I've never heard of the property it's based off of.
@Korgon I also never heard of Dungeon Fighter before this game's original announcement but it seems to be a free to play PC online game that's extremely popular in Asian markets. I don't think there's anything you need to know about it to play this though - there doesn't seem to be much story or lore, the characters are literally nameless, only named after their fighting styles ("grappler", "striker", etc)
Anyway, I bet they'll do another open beta before the release so keep an eye out for that.
I actually prefer the fast pace of Guilty Gear and don't find it too hard to play (Strive is definitely easier than older GG), which is why I'm not sure about this being for me, but it does sound like you might enjoy DNF.
@Korgon : Same here. I had to google Dungeon Fighter Online back when DNF Duel was first announced to see what kind of game it was. Basically its just like @Voltan said, one of those f2p PC games that is popular within Asia (and of course generally unheard of outside Asia). In this case DFO is a long-running (been around since atleast 2005) South Korean 2D side-scrolling MMORPG with beat 'em up-gameplay, developed and published by Neople. Also one of the most highest-grossing entertainment media IPs ever appearently.

@Coolmusic @Voltan
Good to know it doesn't sound like I need to know much about the property itself to enjoy DNF. Funny thing about GG Strive I played Guilty Gear before and thought I was at least competent at it even though I never played much online but boy did I eat some humble pie when I thought I could hang in Strive online! Still a cool game just not my speed but maybe DNF will be the one. If not I always got SF6 around the corner.
On-topic, nice to see the Female Mechanic* on the thumbnail, her character design is one of my favorites in the franchise. Looking forward to see her in full action soon.
*Thats what she is literally called in DFO in case anyone wonders. As Voltan mentioned earlier, all the playable characters, far as I know, are named after what they are skilled at or what they represent (like "thief", "gunner", "striker", "agent", "mage" and so on).
@Korgon This does help!
I think DBZ clicked with me for a wile, and just as I was wanting to go online, and get used to it, UI and GT goku came around, and yeah we know how that ended. And I love this game to, which is so odd, and I even learned so much!
Right now I'm getting very close with skull girls, Even tho the game might be faster, I like how I can learn two characters, and go online, granted I haven't when't online yet, but I feel like im getting close, just still have that scene in my head with me getting my ass kicked every match.
But DNF duel beta, I think is the longest I have ever played a fighting game online, during the beta there was this one guy to just kept winning, but I kept going, till I could have least gotten a round off, and I did, idk, Maybe that one is worth looking into. (Also Dragon girl main for life)
@Korgon Lol really XD. guilty gear strive feels heavy and slow to me compared to streetfighter or dead or alive. i also dont think its the most aproachable either. gotta give that title to blazblue, every non gamer person including girls and myself, alot of button mashers absolutley pick up that game real quick. helps it has a tactical/speacial mechanics switch depending on your style too tho lol. which basically makes your controls one button special moves, or typical button sequence required to do special moves controls.
@Voltan ive played persona 4 arena and its ultimax counterpart both on ps3 years ago. im not like hunting for ones worth playing. lol, i keep up with them, i was just dissapointed with strive and would prefer more anime like fighting games. persona was good, arcana heart too. i just enjoyed some DNF online mmporg in the past and was excited becuz ive always wanted a fighting game made from it. For some reason based on history and my exp, it seems anime styled fighters Graphics wise like anime (blazblue, flat) are the most button masher friendly usually. im in the middle. not noob but not pro. cant read or remember move lists for ***** like pros, so i fall more into button mashing and some muscle memory as i go along in a game. i usually get rammed online lol. so i just play locally with friends. i will try every new fighter at least a few times XD. discovering each character and their cool moves and the music is what i enjoy about them the most. all female roster ones are nice too haha, tho rare.
