Forspoken may have been delayed out of its original May 2022 release date and pushed back to October, but that is not stopping Game Informer from sharing a full 10 minutes of never before seen gameplay action. The PlayStation 5 console exclusive from Square Enix makes combat and traversal the stars of the show in this extended clip, which you can catch above. It's now slated to release on 11th October 2022.
While the game hasn't always had the best showings in previous presentations, this is a much more solid example of what Forspoken can do. The movement and parkour look really fluid, and so too do the spells you'll be casting at enemies. The environment in the first half of the video is called a Sideways City, which has been affected by the Break. The second portion then features a much brighter area as protagonist Frey explores the open world.
A good showing, then, but still seven months to wait until we can play Forspoken for ourselves. Is this one on your wishlist? Decide in the comments below.

It looks very good. Still not entirely convinced it looks fun but I'm looking forward to seeing more.
I'm so ready for this! More than Hogwarts Legacy, this looks like my spell-slinging dream game.
Oh yes. I was excited for this already, but it's looking better and better each time I see new footage.
I can't help finding magic boring to watch, but sometimes it does feel good to play.
The magic looks gorgeous and the movement looks fun, yet there is just something soulless and monotonous about it. Hope i'm wrong!
This, hogwarts legacy and Pokémon scarlet are going to be the must have games this holiday season and I cant wait. Who knows, may be a day one edition to the PlayStation plus premium since its a third party
The combat does not fill me with confidence. Just looks like your character will have to run away from everything while getting a couple of spells in because you have barely any crowd control abilities.
@UltimateOtaku91 Throw in Starfield too. This holiday season is going to be a great time to be a gamer, though a difficult time to have no backlog. Four of the best looking games coming out this holiday season already and who knows what else.
Forspoken is my most anticipated game this year. Can’t wait to see what Luminous did with this one.
@somnambulance of course starfield as well but I left it out due to seeing absolutely nothing of it yet 6 months before release which brings me to believe it will be delayed like zelda was yesterday
For a PS5 exclusive I was expecting much more.. Still can't get impressed with what I'm seeing so far with this game..
We have PS4 games with visuals / art-style way better than this..
Combat / movement feels just poor, average at best.
Edit: "Console exclusive" and not "PS5 exclusive". Charging 80€ for this, and on PC as well.. no comments..
I am looking forward to this game, but it looks like having to constantly bring up a wheel to switch between spells might take some of the zip out of combat and get a bit tiring after a while.
Less than a minute in the video, and I see 1/3 of the character body inside the stone pathways... Maybe that's why it was delayed? To fix all those hick ups lol
I think I've seen enough at this point to conclude I will not be buying this game after all.
Game looks insane. What were they forsmokin
Looks better than before. I am kinda hoping Frey and the Braclet could have a Nier and Weiss vibe. We'll see
@lolwhatno rescind it I feel dirty
There's 3 games I'm excited for on PS5 this year and this is one of them. Been hyped since it was first revealed and ever since it's only gotten better.
Boy this looks.... kinda rough, no? The HUD design is icky, and please tell me there's a performance mode!
Like most people, I have mixed feelings about this game. Part of me is really excited and it looks amazing from the standpoint of flashy kinetic combat, bright contrasting spells with the particle effects, and a boatload of abilities to use. Slightly Nier Automata vibes, maybe. Or Devil May Cry / Bayonetta. With a dash of Dr. Strange.
I do have to agree that I’m not a fan of having to constantly bring up the spell wheel to change powers in the middle of combat. Mass Effect is doing my head in with that already.
But some major things about the game are worrying, like the narrative and dialogue that has been shown previously seemed really rough. Some players don’t care much about a story but for me it’s a pretty important aspect of a game. The core of the story sounds fine, like a Isekai anime storyline, but so far it sounds pretty tropey. (The reluctant hero transported from our world to a fantasy world where they suddenly have powers… etc, etc. Donaldson’s Thomas Covenant books also come to mind). I sure hope the protagonist and the backdrop are more interesting than the previous trailers have indicated.
And there feels to be a dissonance in the art style of a realistically rendered fantasy setting but then the movement and combat is almost too twitchy and dynamic for the setting. Like, Frey moves and darts about so quickly that it’s more cartoonish and yet the cutscenes and rendering is grounded in a realistic dark fantasy appearance. It’s hard to explain and I’m probably overthinking it.
One I'll be keeping an eye on, I want to be excited for it but I'll need to see more before release
If this gets around an 8/10 ima pick it up, as long as there is MELEE in this game!!!
@GorosBat I think I saw a brief melee attack with a magical swordlike attack in the video (sort of looked like the melee attack in Returnal), but yeah, 90% of the combat looked to be from a distance.
God of War with magics eh.
@UltimateOtaku91 We're also confirmed to be getting Gotham Knights in October as well.
RIP my wallet this Holiday season lol.
Holiday looking good with
Forspoken
Gotham Knights
Hogwarts Legacy
Hopefully GOW releases before (summer).
Looks like a more 'mage' based Infamous... But without a melee weapon, having to change spell with a big menu constantly seems to upset the flow of combat a little?
Definitely could do with some work
Now i see why it was delayed
Don't know why, the characters, the setting, the gameplay, I can't point exacly what, but the game isn't cliking with me.
@Royalblues I like 7s aswell, but if I'm determining whether I want to get a game at launch compared to on sale down the track. Quality matters to me, although review scores don't completely matter to me as each game is a case by case basis and completely subjective to each person. Too bad most people don't think that way and only play 9s and 10s and miss out on many great games because of that, an example for me is Rune Factory 5, which is getting middling reviews in the 7s range, many of the complaints of that game are related to performance, which won't even be a problem to me because A- The actual game is fun and chock full of content and B- I'm going to wait for the PC/Other console ports that are inevitably coming later for the game.
@Th3solution I saw that too, but it kinda looks like an execution move, hopefully there is a melee skill tree in the mix because if the entire game is ranged combat only, the game will get very stale fairly quick. I'm like being aggressive in games and standing back just casting spells just seems boring to me, magic just doesn't have that same CRUNCHY IMPACT to it that swords and even bows have in most games, but that's me basing it off 10 minutes of gameplay, so I won't have a proper opinion till I see more!
Based on recent Square-Enix releases and the new $70 price point they've been pushing, I'm gonna have to wait for Christmas sale.
I was more interested in project athia!
Camera, it made me feel sick..And all them Particle effects was a little too much..
@lolwhatno unlike autocorrect, you are correct xD
@nessisonett
I got that sense from this video as well. My hope is that the person playing is terrible at the game. My fear is that they are not.
was interested when this was first announced. Not so much anymore.
I don't understand. It looks shockingly bad to me. Movement, combat and visuals all look bad. The more I see of this the less I'm interested, Squares recent output does nothing to give me any reason to doubt my current impressions
Looks absolute rubbish to me, the camera movement, character animation. Everything about it looks completely soulless and forgettable. Can see the bad reviews already.
@J2theEzzo That was my impression too; Infamous in a fantasy setting.
I still feel the world looks sorta bland, so I don't think this is for me. But if anyone else is excited, then I promise not to hold it against them!
This looks very floaty and one of those games where the camera is a pain. The magic effects look cool but not a patch on Dragon's Dogma. I honestly think that it looks a bit s**t.
Meh, looks like someone re-skinned InFamous. Actually InFamous still looks more fun than this.
@UltimateOtaku91 @lolwhatno Xbox can actually make great games, believe it or not, especially with Bethesda under the banner. Uneven or not, there’s still few games that can compare with that initial feeling of starting up a proper Elder Scrolls game. I’m hoping Starfield is as impressive as they are suggesting. That said, I’m also hoping it makes it this year, just with enough time to enjoy the other big holiday titles. With this holiday’s line-up, it will be seriously hard to choose between which game to stick to.
