Publisher NIS America has confirmed that Trails from Zero will release this September. Previously, all we had to go on was a rather vague 'Q3 2022' window, but now we've got a specific date — or dates, in fact. Trails from Zero launches for PlayStation 4 on the 27th September in North America, and the 30th September in Europe.
In case you haven't been keeping up, Trails from Zero is a highly rated Japanese RPG — a key instalment in Falcom's The Legend of Heroes series, which first released for the PSP in 2010. It was never officially localised here in the West, but now it's finally happening over a decade later. This PS4 remaster launched in Japan in 2020.
This is the first of four Trails tiles that NISA is bringing West over the next year or so. A direct sequel, Trails to Azure, is scheduled for 2023, alongside Trails into Reverie, and The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails.
We've still got quite a wait on our hands, then, but how hyped are you for Trails from Zero? Join the Special Support Section in the comments below.

Already done and dusted last year! It’s very good though so hope everyone that’s waited for an official release enjoys it.
Highly highly highly looking forward to it! It nice to have a date at least now I know by when I need to have Sky 3 finished. Almost there!
I'm sure this question is going to be asked here at some point, so I might as well get it over with. Can you start with this game? I know it feeds into some of the later ones, but I get the sense you can play this without knowledge of any of the Sky or Cold Steel games?
@mcdreamer Yeah, you can start here. The Legend of Heroes has a lot of crossover between its various series — for example, the Cold Steel saga directly ties into the events of the Crossbell games — but for the most part, you're fine starting out with the first game of any given saga.
And if you enjoy that saga, you can always branch out and explore the others to get the full picture.
@mcdreamer
As mentioned above, you can start with zero, if you wish, because the main story of the 3 arcs (sky, zero/azure, cold steel) are mostly self-contained. However you will miss the overarching narrative, as well as the story and context of some side characters, if you do so. Nothing a wiki can’t fix…
Ok. Need to crack on with the Sky series. So far behind on this series!
Holy sh$t!!! I can’t believe it’s finally happening! I thought I’d be in a nursing by the time I got to play this.
I have all the future titles on pre-order, so I won’t miss a one. One developer I will never hesitate to pre-order from is Falcom. They always deliver the goods and are always deserving of my money.
@nessisonett Just curious did you play through the fan translated version on PC?
To be honest I don't think the endgame of Trails from Zero will make much sense without some kind of familiarity with the world and the lore. Steel 1 and 2 may make some sense but 3 and 4 not so much. I may be biased since when I preordered Steel 4 I played Sky 1,2,3, watched playthroughs of the Crossbell games and then I played Steel 1,2,3. I obviously rushed the games playing them in the easiest difficulty and used walkthroughs but still I don't really know how I did all this.
It will look nice in my Falcom ps4 collection!
@Squanch Nope, played through the Geofront translation on the Vita port!
@mcdreamer @ShogunRok This game will make barely any sense without playing the Sky trilogy. Estelle and Joshua are the other two party members and the whole plot of the bad guys ties directly into those games. It’s possible to play it standalone but you’ll miss out a whole lot.
I really need to make a start on this series... It's been in my backlog for ages. I hear nothing but great things about it, and I already love Falcom thanks to Ys.
@jcboyer515 Maybe first learn that generalising isn't a good thing.
@nessisonett Nice! I was going to buy the JP PC version and download the patch from The Geofront but then they announced PS4 version not long after and figured I would wait. These games probably wouldn't be coming west if it wasn't for the awesome folks at The Geofront, so I greatly appreciate their dedication, time and hard work.
I love JRPGs but I just can't get into this series. I had to push myself to get through trails of cold steel 1, the last few hours were amazing but it just wasn't worth the 60+ hours of mediocrity that preceeded it.
Awesome news! I look forward to buying this during Holiday sales.
Trails 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
100+ hours game but only 20% is relevant and the writing is mediocre at best. Never found the “great worldbuilding” they promised me just a very large amount of generic concepts in one place. And boring NPCs.
