One of the surprises from Hogwarts Legacy’s big reveal this week is that, despite being a fifth year student, you’ll be able to cast Avada Kedavra – otherwise known as the Killing Curse. Pottermaniacs will know that this is considered one of three Unforgivable Curses, and is the incantation used by Lord Voldemort on Harry’s parents, Lily and James.
To be honest, we’re a little surprised to see this spell included, but we assume it’ll tie into a larger morality system which will allow you to determine whether you play as a dark wizard or not. In fact, this could lead to some meaningful replayability, especially if it affects the outcome of the story and your relationships with other characters.
An age rating hasn’t been attached to Hogwarts Legacy just yet so we can’t imagine the game will be getting too grotesque with its depiction of Avada Kedavra, but we’re honestly a little surprised to see it included at all. Will you be channelling your inner-He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named when you play through this campaign? Subdue rather than slaughter in the comments section below.

I’m trying to off a first year the first chance I get.
@RiceC03 You monster!
I'm willing to bet that pretty much all endgame enemies are just going to spam this at you constantly. But hopefully Avalanche is more creative than J.K. Rowling.
I was very surprised when I heard that. I wonder if the other two curses are usable, such as the torture curse.
I usually play the good guy, but I can't help but want to use forbidden spells. Haha
Normally I go on the goodie two shoes route first with games that offer a good and evil playthrough. However if this game let's you go full evil wizard/witch I think I might try that route first this time around. There's just something about evil and magic that simply go together!
I finally calmed down after hours and hours of jumping around like a rabbit in heat. It seems they're going all-in with this one, and I just need to know one more thing. When can I preorder the game??!!
Just like @Korgon, I'm so going evil on my first playthrough just to experience that sweet, sweet Avada Kedavra lol.
I'm killing every house elf I see.
That’s cool. I was wondering about that. The next question is will it be purely scripted moments where is pulls up a kill/spare choice in big bold text? It would be interesting if it wasn’t. I was wondering about being a dark wizard in the game, so I’m glad to hear this.
@get2sammyb Technically WB do have precedent for this...you never blasted anyone to oblivion in Lego Harry Potter?!😋😂
Will be a while being a next gen exclusive before I'd even look at it,much less rush into it with the "no mtx" claims...we've heard that before!
Probably be a curious onlooker for now rather than a enthused buyer....The Quarry had me more excited & that's despite it's price just being an Until Dawn fan!🤔
Hmm I may play against type and embrace Slytherin in this game, I usually despise playing evil characters.

I'm going to play, do whatever the hell I want to, and live with my consequences like I do in every game with a morality system.
And I really want to use the killing curse the first chance I get. Lol
As a huge fan of Harry Potter and the world of it, this will be the first Day 1 buy i have done in ages.
Just hope it lives up to the hype
Super-excited to be a Slytherin, and unleash some dark magic on those pathetic Griffindor students (as well as taking out all muggles and squibs!)
if there's a dark side path a la KOTOR i will purchase it on first discount (i won't spend $70 for a HP game although i bought the later books at launch)
It's an interesting philosophical bugaboo for a world where all it takes to cast a spell is a wand, the right incantation, and some practice: the mere existence of such a curse, however Unforgiveable, means that every student is essentially coming to school every day with a loaded gun in their pocket.
In today's US, that'd be a recipe for disaster. We can all be thankful that in Rowling's magical UK, society at large appears to be a bit more peaceful, for whatever reasons.
Crucio would be more fun to see in action, really.
I'll most likely play purely good the first time, then replay as an evil Dark wizard...especially if there's a trophy tied to it.

My comment wasn't unconstructive, it was very constructive....you just didn't like it lol. JK Rowling is a biggot. I'm not saying this for a ban, but you should learn from others mistakes when it comes to sexual harassment and biggotry in games and media....I mean, Activision Blizzard for one.
@TheMadRabbid I hear it has you quashing a goblin uprising? And that they've worked in the old blood libel? Struggling to figure out whether this is genuine, or people throwing fuel on the fire.
I shan't be buying it (for similar reasons to you), but if the plot is as rumoured, I'll be giving those who do some serious side-eye.
@TheMadRabbid it's all good, this is the internet, misunderstandings happen.
While I'm cis myself, I hang around in a lot of intersectional spaces (mostly with other disabled people, but given how anyone can be disabled, it tends to be pretty diverse), and it's amazing how many problems there are with the world building in question, from so many different angles, once you understand the only inbuilt prejudices. I shan't get into it too much lest it's deemed off topic and deleted, but feel free to hit me up on PSN, same username as here.
Can I use them to murder the entire school?
@RiceC03 You hero!
DEATH TO ALL OF HOGWARTHS!!
Combat looked slow and clunky. Hit em with magic blast and then lift em in the air and blast again as they don't even react to being hit.
State of Play got PEGI 12 rating fyi.
