After a fantastic showcase, excitement for Hogwarts Legacy has skyrocketed. The action RPG set within the wizarding school looks like the game fans have wanted for a long time, and we're excited to explore every inch of the castle. However, some concerns remain — including the potential inclusion of microtransactions. Fortunately, this worry can be put to rest.
On the game's official website, an FAQ confirms the absence of microtransactions and in-game purchases within Hogwarts Legacy. Some have been worried that Warner Bros. Games would implement them, as is the case with other full-priced titles from the publisher. In this case, the game will be microtransaction-free. We wouldn't rule out paid DLC in the future, though.
The FAQ also confirms the title is a purely singleplayer experience, with no online or co-op features.
Were you worried Hogwarts Legacy would feature microtransactions? Skip class in the comments section below.

That's great to hear, but I want as much post-launch DLC as possible. Expansions adding new areas, new classes, characters, and stories. I want to be playing this for years.
Good, I have no problem with dlc or expansion. I don't like mtx at all, single player game doesn't need mtx.
@Quintumply thanks for confirming this!
My biggest worry last night was that there might be when I saw real time countdown timers for herbs growing in the room of requirement.
Now this is likely to be a day 1 purchase for me!
Also can't believe it's going to be on Switch! (may be cloud, although Amazon have put up a physical boxart)
Of course I will be choosing Hogwarts Legacy for PS5 though for the superior experience
Can't wait for its Christmas release!
@PenguinL Is it single-player? I always thought this was an MMO.
That's great news. As it's WB, I was worried it would be full of microtransactions or go down the live service route. Instead, focusing on the single player experience was exactly what I wanted for this game.
Honestly this could be game of the decade at this rate
This definitely makes the game more appealing to buy the only reservation I have at the moment is the combat could get a bit stale with you character just standing there casting spells why you hit buttons on a controller ( this isn't the developer fault just the nature of a Harry Potter game but hopefully I'm wrong)
What's happened to WB? They love a micro..
How many times have heard this and then they add them later.
@PenguinL Huh, nice one! Might have a look, I've not paid any attention to it cause I was sure it was an MMO, I could swear that was the case at some point, maybe they changed it. Or maybe I just dreamt it 😂
Depends what they class as MTX, i can see WB twisting things. Just give me a full lengthy game and an expansion some time later and i'm happy.
Hmm. This game looks expensive to develop. It's truly AAA and it's also licensed.
I guess post launch DLC will be how they drive up profits then.
No way they just give us a £70 game and send us on our way
I probably won't buy this, I'm not a hardcore fan, but at least everyone shouldn't have to be online to play this unlike gran turismo 7
Good to hear. They keep this good will up and this could be for Harry Potter what Arkham Asylum was for Batman. Really rooting for this game!
Harry Potter is a huge franchise. This will sell 20 million upwards.
I don't even like Harry Potter but if WB keep up with the positive news and no micros. Im in.
So it will be a proper single player experience ... this really seems like a dream come true.
Right from their website:

Q: Does Hogwarts Legacy have online or co-op gameplay?
A: Hogwarts Legacy is a single player experience and does not have online or co-op gameplay.
Q: Are there in-game purchases or micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy?
A: Hogwarts Legacy does not have in-game purchases or micro-transactions.
The 2 most important things for me are answered
A 100% day one purchase for me!
Not exactly a fan of HP but the game looks really good and no micro transactions is just the 🍒 on top. Might get this when it's on sale.
Paid DLC is totally fine in my opinion, especially considering some DLC’s can be huge. This looks great so far
Thank God! When they said one way of acquiring stuff was by “buying”, a small part of me wondered if they meant physical cash rather than in-game currency!
@lolwhatno actually many people feel that way. Some of them are wrong, some of them are right. You have to look at the content offered and not judge based on when the DLC is announced.
I was already interested based on the gameplay trailer but now I’m considering it day 1 purchase 🤩 and keep those juicy DLC coming, like the Witcher 3 ones that kept adding new lore and locations, a no brainer to buy!
That’s good, but please no DLC. Put any extra work into starting a true sequel. By the time DLC comes out I’ve usually long since finished the game and either forgotten the story elements or straight up sold it.
Paid DLC any day. I realize the problems of this approach, but prefer it to micro transactions. Looks great but appreciate it's cherry picking the best parts of the build. Either way, very likely a day one buy... Just to keep the Mrs happy ha
As good as this game looks and as nice as it is that it won’t have microtransactions, I won’t be buying it myself considering the fact the money will still support JK Rowling and she hasn’t had the best track record lately. That said, I’ll totally play it if anyone I know buys it for me
I wish no microtransactions was the norm, but we don't live in that world. Nice to see that commitment from this team though, another plus point for the title.
This just turned into a day one game for me
Im going to be the ass here why should this b3 applauded this should be normal with full priced games. I rather buy a expansion or anything else but no MT.
@naruball Good DLC is not really a issue i dont really have a issue with a expansion or stuff but dont give me colors for a costume or battlepasses and that nonsense in a €60 game.
It's a sad time for video games when a game confirming that it doesn't have micro transactions is considered a huge plus, but this is still nice to see nonetheless.
A step towards purchasing but it would be for my kid.
It is good that the game is single player focused, but I hope it will have online capabilities like Hitman. It could serve to create great features for this title. Also, a multiplayer spin-off mode like Ghost of Tsushima Legends could be fun to play.
Anyway, if they get the open world single player aspect of the game right, people will naturally ask for it and play it if available. And this is the correct way to aproach game development in my view.
@Flaming_Kaiser the good thing about colours for costumes is that you can get the full experience without paying any attention to them. With DLC, you know there is more you can experience, so it's harder to resist. I wish all games had stupid MTX for people who are ok to spend x amount simply for a different colour. They would offset productions costs, so everyone would win.
The problem with MTX is when you need experience points to level up and access certain missions and you get the option to grind to death or simply buy experience packs. That, for me, is indefensible. I defended The Avengers until they pulled that bs.
@naruball Thats not how i see it a color is zero effort thats why Dead or Alive had you paying for changing your hair color and you didnt even unlock it but you had to pay every time you change it. Colorswaps should be free every bloody time. Timesaver have always been a rippoff from day one.
I loved how here they where called optional. How could you sell something which makes you speed up you finishing your game anyway. That sounds like a horrible game. A ticket to make you be done faster with the product you made....
Quality expansions that took real effort to produce are the things i dont mind to pay for. And not the expansions that are made public before the game is even released.
@naruball And that can be a big part of customization. It’s part of the experience, more in some games than others, and shouldn’t be restricted.
@Jaz007 the cost of making games keep rising. This is a way to offeset costs and it doesn't affect most gamers. Only those with enough disposable money to even consider buying them.
So glad this is a fully single player game.
Thank goodness. I'm all for paid DLC if it's worthwhile and not rushed.
Makes me want to buy it if only to support devs making thr right choice. GT7, that would have been on my list is off right now
@Ben7982 I also have reservations about how the combat will play out in the game, but I did see a roll at yesterday presentation. Hopefully by now, after so many sequels of hits released by From Software (Elden Ring being the most recent), every game developer understand the importance of a good character positioning system during combat, instead of just smashing the attack button.
I've heard that before about other games only for them to patch them in after release hopefully they stay true to their word though
@Hobbesyall with caution, yes
...
@Would_you_kindly it's true, they get past the review part and then they update the game with this horrible practice 😤😤
This seals it as a day 1 purchase for me.
£70 and all
Be a day one purchase for me. Looks great.
But it will have dlc packs. Just like The Sims. Not micro but expensive.
@AstraeaV if the DLC is indeed something extra and the main game feels complete as it is, I see no problem with it. E.g. The Witcher 3.
Great to hear, I was slightly worried about there being microtransactions when I saw the timer in the Room of Requirement.
Also happy to know this will be a fully offline single player game.
As for the potential of DLC, I'm okay with it as long as it's extra story missions/levels or optional costumes etc...
