Despite only being acquired somewhat recently by Sony, the Liverpool-based developer Firesprite Games already has a lot on its hands. It's helping out with PSVR2 title Horizon Call of the Mountain, leading development of an unannounced Twisted Metal game, and working behind the scenes on a few other projects. And according to a new job listing for a narrative director, one of them is a "AAA narrative-driven horror-adventure game" built in Unreal Engine 5.
The listing on the team's official website explains how the right candidate will "establish & consider the game's universe and lore, with responsibility for the quality implementation of narrative content for project milestones and ultimately the game's release". Another responsibility includes working with "cross media partners and considering sequel/future content opportunities".
Prior to Sony's purchase, Firesprite Games' most notable game was PSVR title The Persistence, a horror-focused rogue-like experience. It was later adapted to be played on normal TV screens, with a native PS5 version following after that. Since the developer already has experience in the genre, it's perhaps no surprise it wishes to evolve and deliver an even better experience under Sony's wing. At the time of the buyout, PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst explained how Firesprite Games would develop titles "quite different from the teams that you are familiar with at PlayStation Studios". A horror game certainly fits that bill.
Interestingly, in September of last year, Firesprite Games was spotted hiring for a "dark, narrative adventure" title. It's possible these two projects are one and the same thing, just pitched slightly differently.

Please be Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 (It won't be)
I think they have 3 projects. 4 is too much when you consider ND and Insomniac working on 3?
Also, it's great they're adding variety to the library of exclusives (car combat and horror)!!!
Sheesh, that’s a lot of projects. Just checked the company size, less than 300 people there. I’m sure Sony is managing the various studio teams well, hoping there aren’t crunch issues. ANYWAY.. cool announcement, looking forward to more news in the future.
Very nice.
A few nice little VR tidbits dropping from PlayStation today.
I'd kill to get a look at their internal management structure. All of those studios running so many projects.
Wish they brought back the order
Horror-adventure makes me think of Until Dawn and the like. It’ll be interesting to see the result.
Loving this nice info comming out from new studios.
I'm getting alone in the dark vibes
Horror is one of Sony's blindspots so this will be interesting to see.
Sony needs a good first party survival horror IP.
I'm over the horror genre.
@jFug Siren Blood Curse
I'd be down for this as long as it's action based horror where you can actually subdue enemies.
I'm sick of these modern horror games where you're chased by indestructible enemies with no means of fighting back while having to rely entirely on stealth to progress, I wish that trend would end already.
Imagine taking what worked from The Persistence, such as the creepy atmosphere, messed-up enemies and creative ways of dispatching said enemies, and given the budget of a AAA Game like God of War, TLOUP2 & Ghost of Tsushima, I think Firesprite could create something truly incredible, much in the same way Visceral Games did with Dead Space.
@truerbluer - I myself don't particularly care for those type of Horror Titles you are describing, but there is an audience for those types of Horror Games, but I like the way the later Resident Evil games handle it, where you can still fight back to get some breathing room, however it's ill-advised due to the fact you're wasting precious resources, like how you handle Mr X, Nemesis, Lady Dimetrescu, Jack Baker & Margarite Baker, I like the stress that comes with not being able to outright kill them at first, and how they're always pursuing you BUT you can get them to back off if your smart AND you do eventually kill them and it is satisfying to kill them for all the grief they've given you throughout the course of the game.
@Americansamurai1 I would love the Order 1886 sequel. So much potential in that IP. even without Ready at Dawn, I feel it could really work under a new developer
Horror now you talking .thats cool.word up son
@PlatinumGamer
Unfortunately they haven’t touched Siren in years.
Sounds good, Persistence had some great System Shock vibes.
Hope this one is both VR and flatscreen too.
The Persistence is a pretty decent game, it'll be interesting to see what this team does with Sony's full backing.
@NomNom completely agree, I'll like to see a sequel jump in time maybe to 1930s or so
