Turning games into TV shows and movies is all the rage nowadays, with PlayStation Productions at the forefront of the push. We've already seen Uncharted perform impressively in the cinema, and next year it'll be the turn of The Last of Us on streaming services. One more TV adaptation of a game series that has just been announced is A Plague Tale, from Asobo Studio.
According to French outlet Allocine, there had been some interest in the IP from production houses based in the US, but they were passed on to ensure the series could stick to its roots. Director Mathieu Turi (Inglorious Basterds, Rosemary's Baby, Lucy) has some involvement in the project, tweeting out his excitement about working on the TV adaptation.
Coincidentally, the French director also seems to be a bit of a PlayStation fan. Upon the release of Horizon Forbidden West, Turi tweeted about playing the game on PS5. He's certainly got good taste, then.
As for what's happening with the games, A Plague Tale: Requiem is still slated for a PS5 release later this year. A new screenshot was actually shared by publisher Focus Entertainment yesterday. Were you a fan of PS5, PS4 title A Plague Tale: Innocence, and would you be interested in this TV adaptation? Let us know in the comments below.

Great game that well suits a series (or film). Hopefully it has some high production values, as all those rats could look spectacular, or totally lame, and that will have a massive effect on the overall feel of the show. Really hope it's not in French though, as dubbing can often ruin a show if not done extremely well, and if you're reading subtitles you can often miss what you are actually trying to watch...
I loved the first one and the sequel, if it comes out this year as planned, is one of my most anticipated of the year. I could see a show working too although I'm scared to see how the budget would cover the last stretch of that game without spoiling anything. Maybe an anime would be the better option.
@Fiendish-Beaver Subtitles arenât that much of an inconvenience. Itâs vastly preferable to the nonsense English accents for anything set outside of the States. Renaissance Italy? English accents! Palace of Versailles? English accents!
I remember that there was some interest in adapting Vampyr, but nothing concrete happened so far. This however? Sign me up, it does have a lot of potential.
@velio84 no. They're not out of ideas. Far from it. Simply put most new shows, whether they are good or not, flop. Only a few get to stand out because we have more new shows and movies to watch than ever thanks to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ etc.
At least the show will get a decent exposure before it comes out and may end up doing well. The Witcher was a mega hit largely thanks to the already established audience from the books and video games.
@nessisonett It's all about preference. I don't mind English accents or subtitles, but I've heard many who don't enjoy reading subtitles for too long.
I enjoyed the first game and look forward to the sequel. This could be interesting as a TV show but time will tell.
@velio84 I agree. What will the rdr and GoTsushi movie/tv adaptations bring, to differentiate themselves from other western and samurai movies, besides game characters. Will we notice a difference from tlou tv show and other post apocalyptic zombie, I mean "infected" tv shows.
Also, I could've sworn there were more superheroes than batman, spiderman and superman. The gta v, skyrim and mario kart 8 of the movie world.
This actually makes sense... wait a minute, did I just type "this actually makes sense?"
@velio84 it seems like networks chasing a Walking Dead style profit by turning every obscure comic book into a TV show is begining to dry up (look at the failure of stuff like Y: the last man, Jupiters Legacy and Deadly Class). Now video games are next...
@ThorsHammer do you blame them?
@naruball not really blaming anyone, just answering the posters question above of why we're getting an influx of game to tv adaptations.
@ThorsHammer sorry. Fair enough!
Not every video game can be properly adapted to TV/the big screen. But I think âA Plagueâs Taleâ has potential to be well-made if it sticks to its roots. I donât see it being a major hit, but I can see it working well enough.
It seems like every successful video game franshises are getting their own TV-series/ movies these days.
I think this will be a nice fit for TV, thematically. Really enjoyed the game, and part of my enjoyment was the setting. Not a lot of games or TV shows are set during the Hundred Years War and the Black Plague.
While the game was succesful enough the source material is still obscure enough that I just dont see this show being financially successful enough to warrant not being cancelled after one season. Especially if it has a decent budget to actually depict the rat herds. An animated series I could see doing much better if done in the same vein as Castlevania
Iâll watch it. Iâm looking forward to seeing if they can capture the relationship dynamics between Amicia and Hugo in this and Joel and Ellie in The Last Of Us. I canât wait to see the settings too. Iâm going to have a hard time keeping up with all of these video game shows.
I'm hyped to watch this! My only question is, where does this take place?
Personally I think it'd make sense if this series bridges the gap between the two games.
