Boy are the weekly UK sales charts dull to report on when the vast majority of the top 10 is the exact same as last week and new releases are nowhere to be seen. Regardless, here we are with the headline that Crusader Kings III: Console Edition sold best on PlayStation 5. 81 per cent of boxed copies shifted at retail was for Sony's console, but of course that would be the case: the strategy title's part of Xbox Game Pass.
It didn't even chart highly either — the game only just scraped into GamesIndustry.biz's overall report at number 40. As for the top 10 itself, Elden Ring is up to second, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands slips to fourth after a 38 per cent dip in physical purchases, and FIFA 22 is up a spot into fifth. Gran Turismo 7 is down in seventh, WWE 2K22 holds firm in eighth — likely helped by this past weekend's WrestleMania — and Horizon Forbidden West rounds out the top 10.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 2nd April 2022
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Elden Ring
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus
- Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
- FIFA 22
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Gran Turismo 7
- WWE 2K22
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Horizon Forbidden West

The pink puff reigns supreme!
Well earned too.
When is the second second God Of War coming out?
Majority crusader kings sales being on playstation is surprising if it also counts digital and UGP downloads. It probably doesn’t but I wonder what the percentage will look like if UGP was counted towards the number.
The only reason they are so high on PlayStation is because the game is free on Xbox Game Pass
What always impresses me is how hard Nintendo is killin’ it. Year in, year out.
I grew up with Nintendo but my last console was GameCube. Their games does not interest me nowadays.
Great game. Sad it's only 40th. Many are missing out. That is if they only have a Ps5. Maybe it due to being out on PC for awhile or have xbox as well
I find the whole it sold best on PS5 to be a bit pointless when a game is part of Gamepass personally
Started playing Tina Tiny Wonderlands this weekend and it's a very good game, beautiful looking as well.
Unfortunate to see Horizon Forbidden West nearly slip out of the top 10 which it will by next weeks charts
Also I know that crusaders game is on gamepass but even if it wasn't it would of still sold best on playstation as does every other game that comes out that isn't on gamepass, so using gamepass as an argument doesn't work
Oh I see. It’s all about 👉🏻 Gamepass 👈🏻to talk about even if that game is around 40 th 🙃
Nah Elden Ring legs and Nintendo arms are what s worthwhile mentioning.
Seeing people say the sales are irrelevant since it’s also on Gamepass, but it really probably isn’t irrelevant for the studio. There’s a lot of data based on the Gamepass/not Gamepass question that we don’t have like:
Are people that pay full price more likely to finish the game? Play sequels? Buy sequels? If so, then putting the game on a service like Gamepass/PS+ might actually be damaging to the future of the studio even if their player count on the subscription service is huge. If player numbers continue to decline for subsequent games in the series then what’s the value for MS/PS to pay to put future games on their service?
Again this all depends on the data that we don’t have here, but it’s certainly an important part of the conversation.
Just another piece of proof, of the already skyscraper high stack of proofs, that subscriptions in gaming is going to kill gaming as we know it. Every game is going to have the worst kind of microtransactions in em to make money as the games won't make money by sells alone.
When you taught GT 7 had bad microtransactions, wait for the time when everything is in a gaming subscription. ***** everyone who supports these subscription models btw.
81% on ps5 is a little pointless with it being free on gamepass, if it was not then i could see the point!
if the shoe was on the other foot and xbox had no gamepass but sony had something similar what would these articles be saying?
80% of elden rings launch sales were on playstation and that game is not on gamepass, 73% of dying light 2 sales were on playstation which again wasn't on gamepass, so this narrative of a game selling best on playstation just because its on gamepass is utter BS.
Would be really interesting to know how these sales figures are affecting the devs of these games. Has been a loss or a success due to game pass. I’m not sure what the sales figures percentage wise would be different if it were not on MS subscription service but it must have had some effect right?
I contributed towards Mario Kart being back in the charts this week 😊, I picked up a used copy of GotG as I've heard good things about that and I picked up ER for a good price, so once I've played a few smaller titles from my backlog I'll get to those.
More people need to get HFW it's a masterpiece 😘
@UltimateOtaku91 No surprises there. Isn’t PlayStations marketshare huge compared to Xbox? Like 70/30.
In my country PlayStation got a clear advantage over Xbox. It is far more popular.
@Relygon yeah it is and that's why gamepass works for those games on xbox, games sell hardly any copies on xbox due to console sales being low hence why these companies love gamepass as Microsoft are paying them for every person that plays that game.
But on playstation because there's way more consoles sold and potential buyers it's more profitable for them to sell the game digitally/physically than to put it on playstation now/ps plus premium.
If it was the other way round and xbox had a console share of 70% to playstations 30% then it would not be worth it for game developers to put their games on gamepass as they would have more people to actually sell it to
Also xbox series S/X sales aren't too far behind playstation 5 sales I believe? So should there be a higher percentage of game sales than what there is currently for xbox series consoles. That means one of two things, either xbox gamers are not buying new games because they are waiting to see if it comes to gamepass after, or the majority of xbox players only bought an xbox for gamepass and aren't interested in getting games that aren't on gamepass, which if the later is the case then gamepass is effecting game sales and not in a good way
@UltimateOtaku91 Indeed, and Xbox has a lot of catching up to do so it’ll probably be like that for quite some time.
I prefer PlayStation (except for the controller) but I still “root for” Xbox because I think it’s good with some healthy competition.
@UltimateOtaku91 "According to GSD's digital and physical numbers, 32% of sales were on PlayStation 5, 30% on PC, 29% on Xbox and 9% on PS4" This was the sales split for Elden Ring launch week sales in the UK. This quote was taken from an article on gamesindustry
@UltimateOtaku91 I mean, your argument is also bs, because 80% of PHYSICAL copies of Elden Ring was sold on PlayStation. When you counted digital it was "32% of sales were on PlayStation 5, 30% on PC, 29% on Xbox and 9% on PS4"
Which is completely normal, since Playstation is better selling console in UK
Which is also funny, because Tiny Tina's Wonderlands actually sold better on Xbox then on PlayStation.
@Sakai Yeah, but uk boxed sales were skewed significantly more towards PlayStation - which only tells you that these stats are far from being the full picture.
@Godot25 well this site totally "forgot" to mention that about Tiny Tina lol my bad
Seems to me by your data that for some reason playstation players are more invested in physical copies whilst xbox players are more interested in digital copies.
the same article says 50% digital on PS and 85% digital on xbox for Elden Ring. Obviously that was only 1st week sales in the UK for 1 game, but interesting anyway.
@UltimateOtaku91 Of course, because PS5 DE is just there and Sony is not making many of them, while Microsoft leans heavily on Series S which is digital only console.
Also, Xbox users are more willing to go all digital, which was suggested even at the tail end of last gen.
It's just this site has a "boner" for reporting UK physical sales number (and they are becoming increasingly irrelevant), because it paints pretty picture for PlayStation but then they fail to report again when digital sales are reported later.
And that's why myth about "Xbox games does not buy games, because they are all about Game Pass" is coming from.
@uptownsoul What kind of logic this is?
You want to tell me that there are more PS5 sold in UK then PS4's? Since Elden Ring is selling more on PS5 then on PS4?
PlayStation is more popular console in UK then Xbox. That's all I wanted to say.
Also, my point was mainly about "reporting UK physical sales numbers is dumb because it is not painting whole picture...."
@uptownsoul if anything it shows that the majority of playstation 4 owners in the UK have already got a playstation 5, or some playstation 4 gamers are holding out on buying certain games until they get a playstation 5
@uptownsoul Multiplats are selling better on PlayStation, because PlayStation has more consoles sold. It's really that simple.
@Relygon well, they weren't killing it with the wiiu and wii stopped selling after a certain point. The 3ds initially also struggled quite a bit. But the Switch has been a huge success for Ninty. Even the games on Wiiu that didn't sell all that well, are thriving on the Switch.
The UK top 10 looked completely different for many years until the Switch came out.
@naruball I see, didn’t know all that. Well, I knew WiiU was a failure. I was probably primarily thinking about the Switch.
Good games up there, not surprised by the list. Tiny Tina is next for me.
Kirby is amazing so deserves its success.
Wow no COD game in the top 10, its a miracle! Remove Fifa and you've got a really solid list of games right there
