A new wave of PS5 stock last week lent significant sales boosts to Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 in the UK. A 163 per cent increase in boxed purchases pushed the Polyphony Digital racer up the grid into second, and Horizon Forbidden West climbed up into third. Neither could topple LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, however, which stays in the top spot for a second week.
PS5 console availability also helped sales of other evergreen titles like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The former was up into 15th after its physical sales increased by 302 per cent while the latter reached 17th. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut then moved up into 30th, and even Ghostwire: Tokyo benefited in 21st.
Elsewhere, the physical version of Grand Theft Auto V on PS5 launched last week, which saw the game re-enter the top 10 in ninth place. Elden Ring slips to eighth, FIFA 22 drops a spot to fourth, and the rest of the frontrunners are taken up by Nintendo Switch titles.
Here's the latest top 10 in full, which is based purely on physical game sales in the UK.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 16th April 2022
- LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
- Gran Turismo 7
- Horizon Forbidden West
- FIFA 22
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land
- Elden Ring
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Looks Like Aloy Overrode a Car From Grand Turismo To Ride Back Into The Top 10
Good news all around… I think that HFW seems to be considered as far worse than I believe it should be across the wider gaming community. It also sounds like a lot of the micro transaction issues ofGT7 initially suffered with have now largely been sorted too.
It will be interesting to see if sales are more consistent over time compared to the traditional launch day boom or bust.
Why do I never see any of my games on these lists?
That's awesome and folks had written HFW off. It's a fantastic game. I see GTA5 has made a triumphant return as well!
Great to see both Horizon and GT7 doing well - especially as some people seem really keen to bash them both. I'm currently getting through the campaign and other modes in GT7 and it really is a superb racing game and I've not even noticed the MT stuff that everyone was making a big issue over 🤷♂️
@colonelkilgore
Some of it is just fanboys also it does not help when sales are down due to no PS5 consoles about to meet demand.
Therefore good word of mouth about a game and leaving the game charts creates in some peoples
Mind negativity towards a game.
@colonelkilgore I just got my PS5, and actually, I forgot that there was a second Horizon game. The first one was in my top 5 games on PS4. There are so many great games out there I have to catch up on before I get round to Horizon Forbidden West (hopefully on discount). Sequels just don't excite me unless it is a game series that I absolutely love.
I have loaded up a lot of games including Nioh Collection, Ghost of Tsushima and I have Lost Judgment waiting for me before I even think about playing HFW. I have played my PS5 for about 2 hours in total putting an hour into both Astro Bot and Kena Bridge of Spirits. I have spent far longer than that on optimizing the system and getting my physical layout right and tidying up my basement.
@Bismarck what games are those?
Just like I said in the comments of the article pushsquare published two or so weeks ago that made it sound dire that horizon had dropped to eighth or something like that that it would be fine because horizon will be evergreen like Miles and every time there is new ps5 stock it will shoot up. I’ve noticed it on my friends list where I have like 400 something people which are mostly from my division,apex and destiny days where it as reached up to 110 people having played it after it had been stuck at like 90 something for the last couple weeks which is crazy because most of my friends list play just mp games or gta and the like. It hitting that puts it in rare company when it comes to my friend list.
Gran Turismo 7 probably already outsold the last 2 or 3 forza games combined damn Sony doing to good right now.
HFW's hype got interrupted again by another big game, this time, ER. Again, HFW like HZD is really going to get appreciated when things are calm and quiet.
GT7 and Horizon:FW were the only games included in the PS5 packs for sale at Currys and Game so hardly surprised those titles have seen a surge in sales!
Both GT7 & Horizon 2 are both top draw games, I enjoyed them both and they deserve every last sale.
If Sony could just get on top of its PS5 Manufacturing there is no limit to the sales both could get 😉👍
@colonelkilgore
Horizon Forbidden West isn't generating as much discussion as I thought it would. I think it's phenomenal, though. Definitely will be in the running for my Game of the Year pick. Happy to see it selling well.
As far as GT 7. No comment after what Sony and Polyphony pulled.
@TheArt
Also when the PS5 is more available as it is one of the must have pick ups with the console.
Awesome news! Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West and Lego Star Wars (in that particular order) are my favourite games of the year so far, so it’s great to see them take the top three spots in the charts.
@colonelkilgore horizon fw is a good game. 🧐 I've played far worse, much worse.
@sanderson72 not bad games to have included though..
It's always impressive when games on one platform manage to outsell multiplatform games.
@render I think it's also the "always online" to play single player mode, that's the other big problem.
When I come to trade it in, I'll have to do it before they shut down the servers otherwise my copy will be worthless
@Steve30000 maybe you misunderstood my comment… I rate it, I’m just a bit miffed that it generally gets so much shade.
@harchibald The world built in HFW is nothing short of spectacular guerilla games have done a crazy good job with this game.
@Steve30000 Yeah sure that's a little annoying if you want to play and the servers are down, but I think again it's probably blown out of all proportion.
I suppose also if you were looking to trade it in or play the game in 20 years time then the online thing causes a problem but how many people does that affect? I myself look at the value in games as how much enjoyment I've gotten out of them rather than a resell value. If I paid 70 for a game and then played it for 70 hours that’s 1 pound per hour of entertainment. A game like GT7 I'm likely to get at least double that if not even more so that's a bargain and I don’t expect any of that money back.
If they shut the servers down in a few years time then that will be a shame but I think it's more likely it will be way past the end of the gen before anything like that happens. So really all the people complaining really don't need to as the game will be around for a long time and by the time the servers get shutdown it will likely be only worth a few pounds trade in anyway.
@Bismarck which ones?
Deathloop
Returnal
I'm guessing
Interesting to see Elden Ring not in a top spot with how much it is talked about. Though I suppose most people play that one on PC.
Well they are the only available reasonable costing bundles and if you're desperate to own a ps5 then you've really got no choice and to be honest they're not bad games either gran turismo is a pretty awesome racer micro transactions are sorted and hfw is a great open worlder that will keep you occupied for a while
Glad to see Forbidden West get a surge in sales.
Ahh I'm pleased people were finally able to get a PS5.
Bought mine ages ago from CEX I don't think we will ever be in a position here in the UK where you can just walk into a store & pick up a ps5 like we can with a ps4. I know so many people who gave up a longtime ago trying to get a ps5
Loved Forbidden West. Great game. GT7 and Elden Ring another fantastic set.
Glad more people found a PS5. Have mine since launch and it is worth every penny.
@ATaco Not really. As astonishing as Elden Ring is, it is still a From game and therefore more likely to appeal to entusiast gamers more than casual gamers. As such, Id expect it to sell better in the opening few weeks and then drop harder than prehaps a title with a broader appeal.
I have heard its shifted about 12 million so far, so thats pretty amazing for a game like this and shows its an essential experience for this gen, its a genuine landmark.
Nice to see hfw and gt7 selling well. These are both quality bits of software offering a great experience and the more people get to enjoy such excellence, the better!
And people thought Horizon “Forgotten” West was done selling… think again
The real tragedy is that Lego Star Wars is at number 1, that game is rubbish!
I'm extremely happy to see these ps games succeed and see naysayers who were saying it got overshadowed and didn't sell that well eat their words.
@Gamer83 you're looking in the wrong places I see it all the time
@mrtennis1990 facts haha
@Apfelschteiner bro what are you talking about. the first game kept selling good throughout the years to this day.
@dark_knightmare2 how can you see the number of your friends that have played a game?
@jrt87 those are two completely different games with completely different crowds with little overlay. trust me not many are waiting to play horizon after elden ring
@sanderson72 @Roar8891 if that was the case you would had saw surges in alot of games that come with it in other places.
@middyone if you’re on ps5 you click the three little dots next to the game icon on the Home Screen then click view product and it will show how many friends have played the game on the right hand side of the screen. Sometimes you’ll have to do it two or three times to get the accurate number because it messes up for some reason.
@middyone I should have been clearer. What I was thinking was more about games on PS5 in general. The best games will probably sell more as PS5s become more widely available. I refuse to get any PS5 game on PS4. Now I have a PS5 I have a huge backlog and Horizon is not really even much of a consideration. I probably would have played it by now if I had managed to get a PS5 at launch.
I personally prefer the huge sales at launch rather than a slow burn, because I enjoyed the steep discounts we got on PS4 for games 6 months after launch.
@Apfelschteiner you should definitely check out HFW, its a superior game to the original in a lot of ways, my top game of the year by far.
@Apfelschteiner
Awesome news. It’s such a great feeling to move on to a new gen. 👍🏻
In games like DS or ER loading time makes a huge difference.
@grdz I definitely will play it at some point. I'm struggling to find any gaming time at present even though I just got hold of a PS5, so I doubt I'll get close to playing it for at least a year. There were a few things that killed my excitement for the sequel including not feeling part of the new generation, the game comign out on PS4 instead of being a PS5 exclusive, and the fact that games just aren't up to the quality level that they should be until after 6 months or so after release.
@JJ2 Thanks for your comment. This is a really weird generation. It kind of feels like a reflection on our current times. It's great to finally be done with that uncertainty and be able to move on like you say. In the last year I started watching more TV and movies mainly down to the fact that I couldn't bear the loading screens any longer knowing that there was an alternative out there!
@middyone Not seen any other games included in the bundles apart from a few random ones that are hardly ever in stock at The Game Collection. Every PS5 bundle seems to come with one or the other.
I assume they're just bundled with the console or did Sony release HFW and GT7 packs?
@Bismarck if you are like me, it's because I purchase Idea Factory and other niche publishers
@middyone pretty much all the people I know that played ER also played or are going to get and play HFW as well.
@4kgk2 pointless comparison since most of the people that play Forza didn't have to buy it..
@InvaderJim interesting how many people though?
I got a copy of GT7 cheap on eBay, second hand. Plan on not spending a penny on the MTX.
