With Dying Light 2 now on the market, most of developer Techland's staff will have likely moved on to new projects — and one of these projects is going to be an open world action RPG with a fantasy setting. Sounds tasty right off the bat, doesn't it?
Techland is now hiring for this newly announced game, which means that it's still very early. Still, an exciting prospect given the Polish studio's previous efforts, and Techland reveals that ex-CD Projekt Red (The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077) members are involved as well.
Chief amongst them is Karolina Stachyra, who was one of The Witcher series' lead writers. She's joined by Arkadiusz Borowik, another of Geralt's storytellers. Safe to say that this new project should be in good hands from a narrative standpoint.
"Our ambition is to introduce a brand new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years. We want to create a fully next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity," writes Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka.
Again, it's probably going to be years before we actually get to see this thing take shape, but this announcement has certainly caught our attention. How do you feel about Techland making a fantasy RPG? By steel or silver, prepare yourself in the comments section below.

I wish Ubisoft would do this. Their prowess at creating sprawling open worlds in the recent AC games, and the creativity they exhibit in those titles' DLC, really makes me wish they'd establish a brand new fantasy (or scifi!) IP with the same bones.
Good to see some fresh new stuff coming our way.
@MFTWrecks agreed, the fantasy themed dlc's have been awesome.
I'm loving the abundance of big fantasy games we're getting and that are being announced.
I had been on the fence for the last 2 or 3 years about whether or not I wanted to keep playing Elder Scrolls for my open world fantasy fix.
There are so many alternatives now.
I know it says it'll be vastly different from dying light. But I actually think keeping the first person, fast paced movement ideas would be cool for a fanatsy game. Since so many of them are third person and/or have verry standard movement and traversal. I hope they use some of what they've been praised for with dying light to bring something unique to the genre.
I loved Dying Light, haven’t played the second yet but this could be cool!
I hope they don’t take another 6 years or whatever it was between dying light though!

Nice! Roll on 2030!
@Bismarck You think the monster and character designs in their DLC are lazy? I don't what to tell you.

Not trusting Techland again after they lied about making the DLC for Dying Light free. It remains to be seen if they actually make it free this time on the 19th.
Shall look forward maybe to the game come next generation.
single player games are dying ! why are they making another - oh wait …
Can’t wait for the big promises, only to be given something plain.
Sounds really cool, but yeah, it's just words for now.
Wow this is great cant wait for it to be shown in 2024 as a cgi moviethon and then delayed until 2026 and then finally released in 2028 after another delay ,ill pay 89.99 for it and then play it for an hour ,then go back to assasins creed:downing street
Narrative and world building is key to RPGs, and I don’t think Techland has the chops for it. They failed to add any meaningful RPG elements story-wise to Dying Light 2, so I’m not expecting anything more than a 7/10 from this effort. Will probably be fun if that’s all you want
Hoping for a decent actual action RPG and not just another cheesy Souls-alike.
@Milktastrophe They still haven't fixed that? Damn that's messed up.
