With all of the negative press that Konami tends to get in the gaming sphere, it's easy to overlook the fact that it's actually doing well for itself these days. Okay, so maybe eFootball was a bit of a disaster, but have you seen this latest company-wide financial report? Konami just had its most profitable year ever, which is mental when you stop to think about it.
The firm's operating income increased a whopping 104 percent from fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2022, and it was Konami's gaming division that made up the biggest difference. Free-to-play card-battler Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is highlighted as a particularly heavy hitter, while the trading card game that it's actually based on also performed well.
Meanwhile, the publisher found huge success with Nintendo Switch title Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, which sold over 3.5 million copies in Japan. Again, Konami is much more than just a video game company, but this is still an impressive period for that part of the company.

Sometimes, the bad guys win.
This is inordinately depressing. We're even further from them being willing to sell the rights to their dormant IPs e.g. Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill
im surprised it wasnt a pachinko machine lol.
So, the same company that threw Castlevania out of the window is making profit?
There are no memes that can express my disgust right now. Especially with all these konami "collections" running amok in the PS store.
p.s. why did I have to open Pushsquare today? It was a beautiful day until now.
I haven't tried master duel, because I was told it was pay to win.... not sure if true, but article makes me feel like it's true.
Honestly, I know a lot of people have bad feelings towards Konami, but I'm actually happy about this. I've heard good things about the Yugioh game and even though eFootball didn't launch well, the progress Konami have made with it so far is promising.
I'm much happier that its video game branch is doing well rather than still being left almost completely unused as it was a few years ago.
I know some people feel the need to denigrate Konami everytime they here it's name because of their unamicable parting with Kojima and they made some bad choices with a few franchises. However, I think it should be recognised that Kojima is doing fine, it hasn't exactly hurt his carreer in the industry and Konami has been putting out some good products these past couple of years.
Maybe it's time to let go of the hate, I don't think it's good for the industry to hope any dev or publisher fails.
At this rate companies are going to ditch complete priced games altogether and go free-to-play-live-service. Complete games are an endangered species, it's doomed! 😆
Snake, Alucard, and Pyramid Head are just hanging out at the bar...drowning their sorrows...reminiscing about the good ol' days.
It seems like a lot of companies are looking for that "cash cow". That one game that nets them hundreds of millions a year, but for every forknife, apex, warzone, destiny, ffxiv, etc., we have battleborn, hyperscape, babylons fall, avengers, etc. I hope that search doesn't hinder game development, on the other side.
I'm surprised that a company making a profit makes them 'bad guys' and people here 'being disgusted' ...I'm confused by these comments
Newsflash guys - companies are in business to make money. For the City and their shareholders. They don't just make games for teenagers sat in their bedrooms to play
Years ago Konami were on their arse and struggling - the new CEO comes in and transforms the business and its fortunes with a robust non gaming strategy ( arcade and pachinko machines). Job done.
Yes it's a shame about their past gaming heritage but companies have to adapt and evolve.
I pray that the haters on here never ever set up a business
@Santifa do you know what I also find depressing apart from that is just the sheer lack of good survival horror games. I wish I could make games as I feel I could make a masterpiece for horror. I want a fully open world horror game dripping with immersion, with weather cycles from spring to autumn with ray tracing, open wilderness, to old villages and ancient ruins tied in with a real psychological horror experience.
@KingPev because the majority of the money is being made on a paytowin mobile game?
Glad they did good, maybe that’ll give them a reason to bring back other IP’s. If not, it sucks but you can’t hate on success, it just make you look petty
Snaaaaaaaaake Hmm I have never even heard of those games Hopefully they can sell their real game ip's to SONY if they want more money 💰
Imagine using those profits to make products people would enjoy - like MGS or Silent Hill
@AndyKazama They have been expanding their game development division since it's been their most profitable in the last few years, but uhhhh, games take years to make.

@Orpheus79V I want to believe that's true. However they don't shouldn't have shutdown these studios to begin with, gave us complications and bad games for years, I hope you're right and something is coming
This is very upsetting, hopefully the rumors about them allowing other developers/publishers to work on new games based on their existing IP library is true.
