Hey you! Yeah, you! Have you claimed Persona 5 through the PS Plus Collection on PS5? If not, then take heed: today (that's the 10th May 2022) is your last chance to add the excellent RPG to your games library. That's because on the 11th May 2022, Persona 5 is being removed from the Collection for reasons unknown. It's the first PS Plus Collection title to leave the service — and it may not be the last.
To be perfectly clear, Persona 5 is not Persona 5 Royal — the 2019 enhanced rerelease that's better than the original game in basically every conceivable way. But don't let that put you off! Persona 5 is still a fantastic title that's well worth experiencing if it's your only option.
So, again, make sure to grab it while you can, and let us know whether you'll be joining the Phantom Thieves in the comments section below.

Just play the Royal version honestly
I bought persona 5 royal having play the original version.just get royal instead.amazing game.word up son
Bold statement but Vanilla > Royal simply for somehow making the space station boss even worse.
@Jayslow I'd prefer the new content of Royal over a change to a single boss
Some people might have never seen this coming...
Why is it getting removed from PS plus?
The physical copie of royal is the waycto go.word up son
@Jackpaza0508 I'm glad I redeemed them when I did, lucky move for me
Royal is amazing, big improvement over original.
Did I make it to the end? Did I *****! Game is so long, and I was fatigued before I got near the end. Didn't reduce my enjoyment while I was playing though.
@Jackpaza0508 Because Money
Before it comes to Switch!
Thought Persona 5 was the longest game, till I played Elden Ring.
No idea why Persona 5 is being removed but honestly I'd just suggest Royal as a Persona fan who has played both
Royal adds so many improvements that enhance the experience and the new story content is some of the best writing I've seen from Atlus in recent years
Will it still be available to play even after it leaves the ps+collection? Or are the games in ps plus collection to keep forever, so long as you're a sub?
Still makes me wonder why it's being removed. Maybe it's going to other platforms? But would it really be removed for that reason?
Maybe they're adding Royal, but I doubt it. No other games are being removed, just this one.
If we see it arrive on Xbox in the next few weeks following that strange tweet a few weeks back it'll make me wonder if Microsoft's money is at play again to get it removed.
@PhhhCough - If you've claimed it then it's yours to play as long as you remain subbed.
I cannot in good conscience recommend the original version of Persona 5.
Persona is my favorite video game series. Whereas you can make a good argument that Golden was extraneous for Persona 4, Royal is the game Persona 5 should have been.
Vanilla Persona 5 is a disaster. Please just pay the money and get the good version.
Can you use the app to claim PS+ collection games?
@Shigurui oh man. Didn't, but good to know. I can loan out my copies of the games in the collection, now.
@patronmacabre you couldn't be more wrong. Persona 5 is a great game which Royal improves on it. If you have the choice, Royal is the way to go, but you can't go wrong playing Vanilla for free.
@Milktastrophe
Persona 5 original completely falls apart in the second half of the game. The first half is fantastic, sure, but the second half of the original is just terrible. The only thing that redeems the terrible second half of Persona 5 is the incredible additional chapter in Royal.
Please, readers, you can get Royal for less than 30 dollars. It's about a 120 hour long game. You cannot transfer your data from the original to Royal. If you have are lucky enough to have a PS5, your time is infinitely more valuable than 30 dollars.
@patronmacabre what? It doesn't fall apart at all what a strange claim.
I personally believe that a lot of the impact of the new chapter would be lost if you haven't played through the original ending.
@Jayslow I'd agree on that single portion of the game, simply the worst boss fight I've ever done in a JRPG. But the other 149.5 hours out of my 150 hour playtime in Royal was spectacular.
@GorosBat I agree with that as well. My comment is a bit exaggerated. Just blew my mind when I played through Royal and got stuck on the multiple waves of that fight because I didn't have the correct aoe persona lined up. Took like 5 tries and oddly moving the difficulty to the hardest made that fight much easier.
But yes outside of that it's a friggen masterpiece. And could get the platinum in just one playthrough!
Royal is MUCH easier than the original version too, if that hasn't been mentioned.
@Jayslow Me too, I didn't have the right personas for the fight so I had to resort to going back to the real world, shamefully using one of the DLC personas I think it was around lvl 60 just to beat that boss, I genuinely tested to see if the enemies infinitely respawn and sadly they do.... I literally had no issue with difficulty for the entire game as I fight every enemy I see, I played completely blind so I didn't know I needed aoe and from what I remember the super big enemies in that fight didn't have any elemental weakness (not to any element I had at least). After that boss, I made it my mission to get power leveled for the royal content after the main story, so once I was about lvl 70 I headed to the subway to fight the reaper and got my characters to the mid-90s. If P5R ever gets a PC release I'm 100% going to put the game on easy, find the reaper and get levels high enough to beat that boss without a problem and reset difficulty back to normal. Game is still a masterpiece though and the section so miniscule that it doesn't take anything away from the game. I still marvel over the fact that the game is 150 hours long with no filler and repeating content, kinda crazy!
@GorosBat totally. One final point on Persona 5 (vanilla this time). Crazy to think I originally wasn't going to get it at launch because I was hyped for Mass Effect Andromeda. Oh how times have changed.
