If you've yet to see it, we'd highly recommend you check out Street Fighter 6's fantastic new trailer. It shows off a few characters, the ability to explore a three-dimensional city, and some traditional 2D fisticuffs, and it all looks brilliant. The visual presentation makes up a big part of that — this looks super flashy, with all those big hits landing with awesome splashes of colour. As it turns out, the brawler is running on RE Engine.
We had an inkling it would be using Capcom's proprietary engine; most of the publisher's major games are at this point. However, the company confirmed as much on social media over the weekend:
Street Fighter 5 used Unreal Engine 4, but Capcom has brought everything in-house for the upcoming entry. What's remarkable is just how versatile RE Engine is proving to be; several Resident Evil titles make use of it as the name implies, but Devil May Cry 5, Ghosts n' Goblins Resurrection, and even Monster Hunter Rise were built in this framework. Street Fighter 6 is just the latest example of how flexible the engine seems to be.
It's looking great, anyway, so the RE Engine gets a thumbs up from us. If you want to see some more Street Fighter 6, check out our gallery with a bunch of stills from the gameplay trailer.

The art style seems to have been quite divisive, but i think it looks beautiful. Might actually pick this one up (but probably not until the ultra version or whatever it ends up being called)
I remember reading that the RE engine was very easily upgraded for next gen hardware, so this is proving correct. Everything Capcom touches with it looks fantastic!
@Rob_230 so you gonna wait until the game is almost dead than buy then ok😂.
Great, let’s get the full game in VR then. Full 1:1 motion for everything. I can finally put my years of Tatsumaki Senpukyaku training into practice. Haha.
@4kgk2
Actually, I'm going to do the same. I don't care about the multiplayer portion of the game so I don't mind. I still play SF IV every now and then (or Mortal Kombat on PS3 as a matter of fact).
That RE Engine is quite something. It's done 1st and 3rd person Resi games, VR, DMC5 and now SF6.
Moon Landing =
Stanley Kubrick + RE Engine
The RE engine has been an absolute godsend for Capcom. Games look excellent with the engine and as stated it's turned out to be incredibly flexible.
It's a lovely engine and so scalable; pretty much get guaranteed 60fps on all titles with really high fidelity.
I will miss their MT Framework though, as wonky as it could be sometimes with performance, it has produced their most stunning games.
It's a great engine and seemingly very versatile, I'm glad they haven't just gone down the Unreal engine route
It great to see at least 1 company is holding strong with custom in-house technology. With everything moving to 3rd party engines, specifically UE, we don't really get to see much variation in the technology used by games anymore.
Also, am I crazy or can you freeroam in this game in 3rd person? I thought that would've been the story mode or something?
At least that's how the trailer started as far as I remember.
Is this a thing or am I crazy? Would've been absolutely great if this game has a story mode like that (something Tekken failed at with their top down view mode).
Imagine an openworld fighting game where if you encounter an enemy, you'd enter the traditional fighting style
RE Engine is amazing so i'm not shocked.
@AdamNovice Also done Monster Hunter Rise on Switch with barely any issues as well. Its clearly a well designed flexible engine.
It's a really good and efficient engine, I'm surprised that the engine can run resident evil 2 remake with 60 fps on playstation 4.
@kpenders I'm not sure what you're on about here - the game is multi-platform; SF always has been. Capcom games in general are apart from that one time when Nintendo had RE exclusivity for a bit, before the GC fell on its arse.
@kpenders I always found Sony getting exclusive deals with these multiplat games very ridiculous. Absolutely devoiding XOne of SFV. Now Microsoft decides to play ball and everyone's scrambling, how do you start a money fight when you know MS' pockets is way deeper.
@kpenders what's not looking good? Getting potentially great games like SF6 and Resident Evil 4, who cares if they aren't exclusive to Playstation as that benefits nobody
The special effects are nice but I much prefer SF5's art style better to be honest.
@WanderingBullet Same. The effects is nice but the art style in general is disappointing, SFV's nicer. Fighting games are pretty much the same gameplay so the graphics is important to woo in players, reason why I haven't bothered with recent Tekkens because they look the same since forever.
@TheArt SF5 was exclusive because Capcom asked Sony to fund it as they wasn't doing too well at the time. Today Capcom is thriving with their games so they don't need it to be exclusive
And I'm glad about that, the money could be used for something else instead
I had a feeling it was running RE Engine when it was first revealed.
It's a great engine so why not use it in other IPs.
@Sam_ATLUS Hmph, but did they try asking MS too... Anyhow SFV is not the only case, there's always been timed and content exclusive deals with CoD on Sony's part. Don't exactly know who started this multiplat interference but I feel Sony did it way too much, now we might just miss Starfield and Arkane games which I find extremely disappointing.
as long as it’s not SFV i’m happy .
@TheArt Dead or alive graphics put tekkens to shame . i don’t play it , but DOA6 looks gorgeous
@nomither6 Lol I actually haven't played a DOA before, guess I'll go check out some YT vids. Fighting games in all honesty can get stale y'know.
@TheArt oh believe me i know ; fighting games need to renovate like other genres but it’ll most likely cause controversy since the FGC is basically conservative , but then they wonder why fighting games are consistently niche .
@WallyWest Oh really? I didn't know that. That's even more impressive.
@gollumb82 @4kgk2 Yep, like gollum, im more interested in playing the single player content. Dont really care for the multiplayer aspect unless playing with friends. And given this has a fleshed out SP campaign im interested in trying it. But given how much these companies tend to charge for dlc character packs, might as well get the complete edition for less money in a year or so
The Geofoece leak also revealed the
@TheArt Don't know if they ever went to Microsoft but either they didn't or Microsoft rejected it, they did turn down the offer for Spider-Man in 2014. Microsoft actually use to have all the content deals with COD during the 360 and then it went over to Sony with the PS4. Sony do a lot of weird deals with exclusive content but Microsoft has also done it in the past so both sides are just as guilty of it, just Sony has been doing it a lot more recently. I don't see Microsoft dropping those games on PlayStation ever unless Sony allows Game Pass onto PlayStation which Sony and Nintendo have both rejected.
I mean, was there ever any doubt?
The RE Engine continues to deliver.
@4kgk2
Yes. The real joke at our expense would be buying Street Fighter 6 knowing exactly what Capcom did with Street Fighter V. I'll wait as well.
Looks really good, and I’m enjoying everything that has shown so far.
I'm hoping I get to see MH run off the RE Engine instead of the modified one.
RE engine is really good I remember when I first played re7 I was amazed at how good it looked
@TheArt Microsoft got dead rising 3 exclusively I think they funded that one because in the opening it says Microsoft presents
@BoldAndBrash Tekken force was fun in Tekken 4. But yeah when they went for the full campaign in 6 it felt even more clunky and off. Mortal Kombat games have done really well with the open world and encounters turning into a full fight in their Konquest campaign modes. Would be really cool to see something like that in Street Fighter.
That definitely explains why the trailer looked so amazing!
