The long-awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been hit with yet another delay but has not been cancelled, according to Ubisoft. At this point, though, it is starting to feel a little like gaslighting.
Concerns that the project had been cancelled were raised after retailers like GameStop began delisting the title. This is thankfully not the case though as the timeline to release has just been pushed forward.
In a statement to IGN, Ubisoft said: "The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake."
Ubisoft continued: "As a consequence, we are no longer targeting an FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their preorder they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along."
Originally released on PS2, Sands of Time is a beloved game, set in a universe that we would be excited to revisit. Here's hoping the remake, whenever we do finally get our hands on it, turns out better than that Jake Gyllenhaal abomination of the same name.
Did you play the original Sands of Time? Are you excited about the remake? Turn back the clock with us in the comments section below.

What the hell is up with this? It was originally meant to come out in Jan 2021, even had pre-order bonuses. Its like they scrapped the original version and have started from the ground up again.
The Price of Purchase... when you pre order
We might be waiting a while (2 years) as I suspect Montreal are probably remaking the entire game at this point. Looks like the Indian studio completely dropped the ball and it’s been handed other to another internal studio to rectify.
Shame as I was looking forward to this having never played them originally.
This remake will be so outdated by the time that it’s released that it will need its own remake.
@WallyWest basically they released screenshots of the remake and everyone hated it. It looked very rough and more like a ps3 game than the ps4 game it was supposed to be. Since then Ubisoft have been in panic mode. Im assuming theyve moved onto the new gen now hence why its taking so long but it could just end up in a corner with Beyond Good and Evil 2
@Danloaded Oh yeah i remember the original reveal and how under-whelming it looked but i assumed they would just touch it up and be done with it and not redo the entire thing.
Bloody hell. Still the first game I platinumed, may be the last too at this rate...
I hope they scrapped the whole thing and started from zero again. It looked so rough that I doubt it could've been just tweaked.
@Pat_trick @Thelegend159 I suspect this is exactly what happened, they scrapped everything and started over on the remake with a different studio.
At least we should have something to look forward to in 2024 maybe?
