Hot on the heels of that reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes the news that Warzone 2.0, the next iteration of Call of Duty's take on the Battle Royale formula, will be launching in 2022.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is releasing on virtually everything with a microchip on 28th October, so that's Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC via Battle.net, and most importantly of all, PS5 and PS4.
In a post over on the Call of Duty blog, Activision outlined a bunch of information regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in general, but the part regarding Warzone specifically reads:
"October 28 marks a new beginning for Call of Duty, starting with the release of Modern Warfare II. Soon after, a wholly new Warzone will launch as an extension of the Modern Warfare II universe. With it comes new technology, new features, and new gameplay that work seamlessly together."
It continues: "Throughout, we have taken a wide range of community feedback to heart. In order to fully deliver this state-of-the-art experience, Warzone 2.0 will feature new Modern Warfare II content and systems with brand-new progression and inventories. Today’s Warzone will continue as a separate experience that will include a continuation of player progression and inventories within that Warzone experience. We can’t wait to share more details soon."
"Development on the all-new, dynamic Warzone 2.0 experience is also being led by Infinity Ward, along with Raven Software. The new, free-to-play battle royale Warzone also features the same technology powering Modern Warfare II, so both titles leverage the Call of Duty engine that first debuted with Modern Warfare (2019), providing the most seamless and advanced Call of Duty experiences ever."

Yay more battle royales...........
I said they'd cram warzone into it again & looks like I was right won't waste my money this time
i havent played a call of duty game since playstation 2. the developer forgot their roots now its all money money money. no thank you i buy my game out right in the shop bring it home install it done.
online gaming I'm like wheres the pause button. i game in my own time.
I'm going to get it and I'm going to hate myself for it.
New inventory and progression huh?
That sucks.
Make it a separate game from COD MW2 for god's sake, having to download 200GBs to play multiplayer only and the continuous updates is awful.
@edgar14 100% this. I played MW recently and couldnt believe i had to download two additional content packs after installing the game to play the single player, which itself was burried under massive home screen banners for warzone, cold war, and vanguard. Absolutely nuts
@Mad001 you missed out on a lot of good call of duties then , that’s a hell of a way to prove a point .
@edgar14 it would just hinder sales then . a lot of people don’t play COD multiplayer anymore (and for good reason) .
Ps4 lol...so much for next(current) gen warzone
@nomither6 What would hinder sales? Warzone is free and if I buy COD MW for the single player campaign and the multiplayer and I don't want Warzone I should be able to chose not to download it. Other than the ridiculously cluttered Home Screen, Warzone requires frequent updates that I have to download although I've never played Warzone and never will.
If it's the case with MW2 I won't buy the game.
@edgar14 it being free just makes it worse , people will feel even less compelled to pay money for a game that they’ll spend the majority of its time in it’s multiplayer - a multiplayer that isn’t popular anymore and hasn’t been unanimously good in a long time , so many people will just wait for the new warzone and won’t bother with MW2 .
all i’m saying is the reason they most likely included the new warzone .
More warzone hooray..have not played warzone for a while but i'm all over this..
@nomither6 lol i was more in to morrowind , oblivion , resistance , gears etc back then
@Mad001 gears of war was amazing
@nomither6 first time i played through the 3rd one when i was snowed in lol
@nomither6 In my opinion, MW 2019 was the best multiplayer suite the series has ever had. I still log in and play that game and so do many, many others. I agree that they should untether Warzone and MW2, but in all likelihood, they will. With Vanguard, you could segment what parts of the game you wanted installed, so I don't see why this would be any different. They'll likely have the same launcher, though.
Warzone 2.0 should cut last gen. Will only hold the mode back
@edgar14 no they will release the multiplayer on the disc and make you download the campaing ofcourse.
Is it worth it to play any of the recent Call of Duty games? I’m thinking about buying one and I don’t know if I should buy Cold War or Modern Warfare.
@Goat_FromBOTW MW is pretty awesome both in campaign and multiplayer. Cold War is ok, has plenty of maps and the campaign is decent but MW is worth a go. I say that as someone who plays CoD a lot, even Vanguard but I don't recommend Vanguard unless you really want a WW2 shooter.
@RavenWolfe81 Got it, settled on MW
@nomither6 I like modern warfare's multiplayer but have 0 interest in warzone so I uninstalled the game because it's not worth the huge file size & the updates for a game I don't want
@wildcat_kickz MW has the most active multiplayer compared to cold war and vanguard but i don’t think that’s saying much
@neon-xxiv I know why they’re keeping last gen my guy, thats not the point I was making.
The tech will be held back by old gen. Its why we can’t have 120fps currently cause of the advantages PS5 has over PS4.
