As was the case last year, NBA 2K23 will have a GameStop exclusive WNBA Edition, with Phoenix Mercury’s Diana Taurasi and Seattle Storm’s Sue Bird on the cover. This unique version of the game will represent an alternative to the Michael Jordan options announced yesterday, and will presumably complement an updated version of The W in this year’s basketball sim.
A press release adds: “Celebrating Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi’s career-long commitments to securing equal opportunities for female athletes, NBA 2K is also partnering with the WNBA stars to donate $100,000 to Every Kid Sports, giving young girls the opportunity to join youth basketball programs across the country.”
This year’s regular cover athlete will be announced when pre-orders open on 7th July, although it’s widely rumoured the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker will be said star. We’ll obviously bring you all of the news when it breaks, but for now, you can check out the WNBA trailer embedded at the top of the page.

It’s nice to see them making an effort to push women’s basketball. FIFA don’t even attempt to push their women’s football mode. They could have done something for the women’s Euros starting tonight but apparently not.
Its kinda weird that they dont release such a version everywhere the more coverage that would be for the best.
It should be Brittney Griner.
And the fan will be extremely excited about this.
@nessisonett Because they don't sell. Just like wnba.
@RedRiot193 Tell that to the almost 70000 people currently in Old Trafford watching the England and Austria women’s teams. Get your head out your arse.
@nessisonett That is such a miniscule number it's funny you thought it was somehow relevant.
The WNBA is wildly unpopular and loses an average 10 million dollars per year. I'd personally rather have Michael Jordan on the cover, but maybe I'm the only one, lol
@RedRiot193 70k is almost capacity at Old Trafford. You literally have no idea what you’re talking about.
@nessisonett Yeah because men sports popularity are totally not dwarfing that number /s. That's not even a fraction of the people who watch mens sports.
@RedRiot193 What? Live? You can only fit so many people in a stadium? The stadium has sold out. It’s selling the same amount as men’s football. Your colossal misunderstanding of basic facts in an effort to assert male dominance speaks volumes.
@nessisonett my only argument would be that the tickets are literally £10 and cheaper free for kids I believe.
Still, selling out Old Trafford is no joke, the men can’t even do that lately 😂
FIFA/EA should still do more though. Maybe EA will when they lose the FIFA chains.
Compared to the NBA the WNBA is on a slippery slope, consistently loses money and not even playing the same sport as the NBA when it comes to league value. Granted this could improve over time and raising the profile of it through gaming moves like this should help, but I've watched parts of some WNBA games and the consistency in high skill level is where it suffers. That's going to take even longer to rectify.
@nessisonett "It’s selling the same amount as men’s football" In what world do you live in that 70,000 people equal an entire planet of people who enjoy mens football over something a very small percentage enjoy.
Also Jacko covered that pretty well huh? You seem to stay shut when have no argument towards facts.
"Your colossal misunderstanding of basic facts in an effort to assert male dominance speaks volumes." please cope harder bro. You're talking to somebody who enjoys womens wrestling. Those girls actually can put butts in seats and have main evented shows with bigger audiences than a girls soccer team.
@RedRiot193 I can’t comprehend your baffling stupidity here. 70k people inside a stadium that seats 70k people is literally as good as you’re going to get. How the actual f**k are you supposed to measure people across the world that might care about football but can’t really be measured using any metric? People that attend games can be measured. Women’s football filled the stadium. I don’t get why you’re so incensed about this. Oh actually I do, you’re a sexist piece of crap.
@nessisonett The problem is that you are only considering one stadium but there are hundreds of stadiums that are always full for men's football. Yeah, 70k is a lot but how many times something like this happens and for how many stadiums across the world? I don't have the answer but I am pretty sure the answer is super small compared to men's football.
@nessisonett Damn this is the problem with the internet. I give you actual women sports that I like (that are actually relavent) and you somehow seem to still label me the same way.
Lets put this into perspective. Your original comment "FIFA don’t even attempt to push their women’s football mode. They could have done something for the women’s Euros starting tonight but apparently not." My response "Because they don't sell. Just like wnba". Why do you think that is? In a global sport where football (specifically mens football) puts asses on seats world wide. Why would a company push something that is liked by a very miniscle amount of people? You're stuck on one stadium when your original comment had nothing to do with one stadium. It's addressing a general problem with girls football. It's.not.popular. That's a basic fact. When boys go get football cards or memorabilia they get mens collectables. It has nothing to do with being sexist. People just like certain things more than you and the other 69,999. Just like this wnba attempt which pretty much almost nobody cares about. If you put micheal jordan on one cover, and these girls on another, and they had the same features guess which one would sell more? That's what companies care about.
