Brilliant PSP platformer LocoRoco Midnight Carnival is coming to PS5 and PS4 as part of PS Plus Premium (or, indeed, PS Plus Deluxe). While the game is yet to be officially announced for the service, it’s been listed on the PS Store, presumably in preparation for an imminent release. The page description mentions “up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters”, meaning this is being emulated like other PS Plus Premium titles, such as Echochrome.
Sony originally remastered LocoRoco and LocoRoco 2 for PS4, both of which are available for subscribers in the list of All PS Plus Games, but LocoRoco Midnight Carnival was locked on PSP up until recently. While largely similar to the original two titles in the series, the spin-off ups the overall difficulty and introduces some extremely attractive environments. We awarded it a 7/10 in our review, explaining that if you “get over the frustrating parts, you'll find plenty here to make you smile”.
We suspect this will be part of July’s update, which will also add Stray and a host of Assassin’s Creed games, assuming rumours are correct in the latter’s case. Other PSP titles expected to be added imminently include Ridge Racer 2, so it looks like there’s loads for subscribers to look forward to over the coming weeks.

Fantastic game! Enjoy everyone!
No mention of a trophy campaign?
@thefourfoldroot1 No mention of Trophies as of yet. Could have them, could not. Seems to be random so far.
It only really feels like a substantial amount this month because of all the Ubisoft stuff they're tossing in but still, this is a pretty packed month for the service. Still hoping for at least one PS1 and PS2 release per month though. We've got a ton of classics that need adding, afterall.
Great a classic game! Hope they release more like Dino Crisis.
Very happy to get this one, ive not had a chance to play it before.
👏
@get2sammyb want to let you know. The original psp “remasters” on ps4/5 run on the same emulator as the new psp games. The difference is the new games aren’t using the tools this emulator offers like the “remasters” do. It was datamined years ago that games like locoroco, patapon and parappa the rapper run on an emulator and sony falsely markets them as straight up remasters and remakes.
Just like the rest of the PS1/PS2/PSP if it has trophies I'll definitely play it. If not i see no reason to go back to these.
childhood nostalgia right here
Very good. Especially since the Game was always digital only.
Now also put Patapon 3 on there
@get2sammyb
Fingers crossed, but you’d think they’d mention it as a feature if it was included.
Now this is more like it, not played this before so along with Stray I'm looking forward to giving it a go
@thefourfoldroot1 All the classics only mention those features. Even the ones with trophies, so maybe they will, maybe they won't.
@Ken_Kaniff
Thanks, that’s what I was hoping but didn’t have the chance to check.
@darkswabber you know a remaster is the same game but with improved render that makes them look better and that render in some cases is archived with a filter right? Many emulators have the functionality of adding filters to games so the only difference between what is described as "false" and a "true" remaster is where those filters are located in the build.
And that for me at least is nothing to make drama about Sony marketing. 😂
@GymratAmarillo remaster implies they run natively which they don’t.
EDIT: also didn’t mean to start “drama”, was moreso meant that these new psp additions run on the same emulator but do not use the benefits of the emulator in question.
EDIT2: also the article points out midnight carnaval is emulated as opposed to the original 2 being remasters. Which was what I responded to in the first place since the original 2 are emulated too on the same emulator.
I'm really excited to see how many psp games end up on ps4/ps5, I bought a ton of amazing games on that beast, would love FF 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 and war of the lions on my big screen (vita tv won't play them) Vita games also need to happen
Great news, but can't find it... listing pulled?
Any classic games without trophies are a try and uninstall for me.
And imagine if this is the only classic game we get this month lmao
Meh would've liked the psp god of war games because then we could download them instead of streaming the PS3 versions
