Stray is out in a little over a week – and it won’t cost PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium subscribers a penny. It all means that developer BlueTwelve Studios is getting ready for release, and has submitted a first batch of patches to Sony’s servers. There are two launch day updates ready and waiting, both of which ask you to “hug your cat for us”. N’awww.
The full patch notes are below:
Stray v1.02
- Improved navigation in various places
- Made some game scripts more robust when reloading checkpoints
- Improved audio during cinematics
- Polished audio sounds and general mix in throughout
- Small graphical tweaks and fixes
- Improved localisation in several languages
- A LOT of collision fixes, naughty cat!
Stray v1.01
- Localization has been improved in several languages
- Supplemental vibration has been added throughout the game
- Some Meows have been totally re-meowed
- Stability has been improved during a few critical moments
- Performance has been improved in a few demanding places
Earlier this week, the game’s Trophy list also emerged, confirming you’ll need to meow 100 times and nap for an hour in order to unlock the all-important Platinum. We’ll hopefully have a full review for you soon.

Some Meows have been totally re-meowed
Can’t wait to tell an angry meow from a happy meow.
I’m quite excited for this.
I'm an stupidly excited for this, so is the wee man 😂
Can't wait to get my claws into it
I'll be giving this a miss. Cats are small soulless, selfish creatures with no endearing qualities. It's only the frailty of human emotion that projects onto cats attributes that don't exist in nature. They are not far above reptiles when it comes to giving a damn about anything but themselves. I suppose they chose a cat for greater mobility and vertical traversal. Using a dog would, in contrast, require taking into account actual emotional interaction, and relational dependency, even with robots
@nathanSF I agree with you in real life.
But this game looks damn good.
But I'm a bit confused, didn't they say a physical version comes out at launch? I see nothing to pre-order?!?
@nathanSF as a cat owner, a ginger Tom at that, I am horrified by this comment 😂
Cat-tastic and now reaching for my Dreamies
Totally gonna blast those refined meows to wind my dog up.
I haven't been that excited for an indie game since Kena. Can't wait to play this on Plus day one.
@nathanSF That's so dark my friend. It's just a game 😄
@nathanSF thought you were describing people on the internet for a moment 😅😅
@Nintendo4Sonic
Agreed, in all other respects it looks like a great game but the 'cat' is no hook for me.
@Dudditz09
To show compassion and concern for any living creature is, of course, to be respected and commended. However, a cat's concern for the continued wellbeing of their source of their own feline comfort and nourishment should not be interpreted as empathy.
@Ravix
Brilliant!
@fido
True. I'm just describing the source of my disinterest.
@nathanSF I don't disagree with your assessment of cats but I don't think dogs are all that different. I mean, it probably comes down to what human traits you're projecting onto either. They're both just animals after all.
I'm ambivalent on both tbh.
I really think this game is going to be something special
When is the review embargo lifted?
@Dudditz09 his comment reads as someone who's never actually met a cat.
@nathanSF I broadly agree, but absolutely love cats and it's as much FOR those reasons!
Are they selfish, aloof, cunning, temperamental animals? Yes. But they win on their glorious independence of thought and refusal to toe any lines.
Cats are unique - what other pet has their own door, free to come and go as they please? All other pets are like children, needing constant confinement and attention, either to keep them from running off forever or because they're incapable of looking after themselves out in the world.
Cats rule 😍
@nathanSF We have two cats, one of which (unfortunately) does fit your description. The other however couldn’t be further from it: she’s remarkably in-tune and concerned with human emotion, literally intervenes to de-escalate our arguments, all but forces therapeutic cuddles when one is quietly stressed, and a fierce albeit diminutive guardian against would-be intruders.
My sample size is obviously small, and I love dogs too, but couldn’t help but recoil at both the arrogance and ignorance of your blanket statement. Hopefully I missed something and it’s just a joke (?)
Anyway, I’m looking forward to Stray!
@nathanSF Of course I respect your opinion, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you my friend. I have quite severe Crohn’s disease, am often in extreme pain and have needed several bowel resection operations. Whenever I’m in a lot of pain or on all fours throwing up in the bathroom in the middle of the night for instance, our family cat is always with me. He even taps my hand or face with his paw and makes little whining sounds, which to me, indicates he’s worried about me.
My wife was never a cat person and even she adores him. She even takes him out for rides in the car. Though in general, I agree that cats are far more selfish than dogs. My daughter has a Pomeranian, who’s sole purpose appears to make her laugh and hug him. Whenever I see him though, all I tend to think of is how much I’d like Tokyo Jungle on PS5. As for Stray however, I’m really looking forward to it.
I have 2 cats and they’re always hanging out with me, we’re together now as I catch up with Wimbledon.
It’s my girlfriend/partner who is off doing her own thing elsewhere in the house lol.
Meowtastic 🐱. N.i.c.e.haha.word up son
@nathanSF I swear this is exactly how people feel when they meet Americans on holiday
@nathanSF I like cats. 🤪
Pre-ordered for PS-Steamdeck. Can't wait!
Bless all of my fellow cat-appreciators who are responding with grace and equanimity 😌
@Krysus that's my predicament, right now. Steamdeck or ps, first world problem, right?
I don’t know where this hatred for cats is coming from ; if it’s be some human evil side projection like in the dark ages of blaming the Black Death (or any evil) on them or just getting attention. There are many animals who seem just as cruel and selfish as humans and yet also similarly differ as many individualities. I think it’s a brilliant idea for a game. I feel cats bring some positivity and happiness into this world and that must count for something.
@zupertramp while a cat does not have human emotions like love, and while it’s entirely possible for your love to be in one direction, what you undeniably gain from having a cat as a pet is it’s trust, and I think that’s a pretty cool trade. Cats are awesome.
@zupertramp
Countless scientific, clinical and peer-reviewed experiments have demonstrated dogs intelligence.
No doubt you've come across 'Bunny' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8k2upr9vCE
@Cp9944 That's hilarious
@JJ2 I'm not expressing hatred for cats. They're just cats.
@themuckman Fair enough
@Sgt_Peppa Arrogance was not intended, at least not consciously. I just got into expanding on a superficial opinion and some basic facts about cats.
@nathanSF whatever the animal you can’t view the exchange on the same terms as you would with a human, you’re basically trading your love and commitment for its trust and dependence. If you want to project your own feelings on to its behaviour too, sure why not it doesn’t hurt.
@The_Pixel_King
Of course I fully respect the value and personal benefits you get from owning and having a cat live with you, particularly during these difficult times when any comfort is a blessing. I guess the same goes for anyone given the times we are in. It would be immoral and undignified to disrespect any person's healthy, lifestyle choices or practices that improves their quality of life benefits, cats or other. This does not contradict with my equally subjective interpretation that the cat is just expressing concern for it's own source of nourishment and comfort. Of course, this does raise the broader question of is there such a thing as altrusim? Or is the case that everything we do as individuals is geared to our own survival and personal well-being?
Personally I think there is such a thing as selfless acts, but only with higher intelligent beings like humans, dogs, pigs, dolphins, elephants, etc.
@kyleforrester87
Generally, yes. Agreed.
PushSquare. Don't you just love this place?
@nathanSF
"PushSquare. Don't you just love this place?"
Not when its hijacked by psuedo intellectual posturing by someone more keen on pushing an irrational hatred than discussing games. The smugness of your demeanor practically drips with every word you have typed. Nobody here asked for your opinion on cats, and if the game doesnt interest you then your comments are are pure posture and serve no other purpose.
Those of us interested in the game have every reason to be excited. Its an interesting concept and a great aesthetic.
@Titntin
Wow, now there's a turn. You're right, no one asked for my opinions, or anyone else's here, unlike I presume the formal and widely supported request for your ranty tirade.
Oh, and nowhere did I say people have no reason to get excited about the game.
I'm fully aware my views on cats are subjective and see nothing wrong in expressing them as part of explaining why I, as an avid and active gamer, will not be buying this particular game.
May I quote M'lud as evidence my earlier comment
"Agreed, in all other respects it looks like a great game but the 'cat' is no hook for me."
Of course, my opinion of the game may change and supersede my opinion about cats. After all, Stray is more about everything that goes to make up a great game that can be enjoyed by anyone rather than about what one might feel about cats.
And there, I've just gone and successfully argued against myself and have moved to actually consider buying the game.
I suppose I should thank you for that.
Bravo!
Now, where are those opinion request forms I need to fill in before this opinion is deemed unofficial?
@nathanSF but to be fair, you can’t act too surprised that you’ve upset some people when you take a dump on creatures that for many people are considered important family members. It doesn’t mean you have to like cats or like anything to do with them, it’s just an empathy thing.
@nathanSF
A person who makes 14 posts in a thread about a game he doesn't want to play, espousing a view almost guarenteed to annoy others, is an attention seeker and nothing more.
@kyleforrester87
True.
@Titntin

@nathanSF 😂👍🏻
I think the comments section has stray from the original topic
@Darylb88
Ba Boom Ching!

@PhhhCough It's still weird that there is a portable PS5 and no one is talking about it. Just picked up Deathloop and Death Stranding on the Steam Sale for 50$ total! FF7-Int was even 30% off. Tough to complain with so many options nowadays tho.
I hate cats ,furry little evil bast*rds
@tallythwack I feel the same about Chihuahuas. Spawns of Satan they are.
meow hiss meow meow
Does anyone else feel like a cat just walked up onto our metaphorical Push desk and sat down on our metaphorical Push keyboard to demand attention? Is that what's called "irony"?
@nathanSF they're no doubt intelligent. But so are cats, as scientific studies suggest as well. I just mean, do dogs care about you anymore than a cat cares about you? Who knows? Can we quantify that? Will both still eat your corpse if they're starving? Probably, but hell, so will people lol.
Again, just to reiterate my neutrality... I don't have a preference. I see us as stewards and as such have a responsibility to treat all animals with compassion (part of why I'm vegetarian) but tbh I don't like having pets. Cats, dogs, hamsters, birds, turtles... whatever it is, I don't want it. I have kids lol.
@kyleforrester87 yes, fair point. Though, to be clear, I wasn't trying to negate or dismiss the value of anyone's relationship with their pet of choice. It was just some light pushback to claims that X pet is better than Y pet.
@Krysus its crazy to think I can take sekiro, elden ring, GoW, soon stray and spiderman on the go. Ten year old, 15, hell, even the 20 year old me is astonished at what we have, nowadays!
Seems like this is appropriate given where the comments section is going.
A dog sees that their person cares for them, provides them a house and a bed, gives them food and water, and thinks - they must be gods!
A cat sees that their person cares for them, provides them a house and a bed, gives them food and water, and thinks - I must be a god!
@RobN
Brilliant
@nathanSF You've obviously never met a Maine Coon.
@nathanSF never owned a cat have ya?
I've never owned/had a cat before but still excited to play the game, always loved them growing up as a kid (and still do).
@nathanSF
You have clearly not felt a cats love my friend. They can be just a friendly and cuddly as dogs.
@nathanSF
All animals are selfish, it's nature.
See what happens to your dog, when you don't feed him well
@Milomaine
True. I just googled the breed. They look interesting
@HollowSpectre
Growing up, we always had cats in the family and I myself have had a few cats over the years. I'm not hostile to them. I even take care of friends cats when they go on holiday.
They're basically Dogs in a Cats body, I've got 9 of the monsters
@nathanSF Everybody's experience with them is different I guess. I've got two that think their dogs. One is always following me and has to be in the same room as me at all times.
OOOOOhhhh kitty has claws
