For years, fans of Assassin's Creed in its more traditional form have criticised the open world RPG direction of the last few games (despite the fact that the franchise is now more profitable than ever before). The argument that Ubisoft's series is simply no longer Assassin's Creed is a common sight online, with the most recent titles, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, incorporating more and more fantastical elements. Stealth gameplay can feel like an afterthought, and the franchise's trademark Assassins versus Templars storyline has taken a backseat.
We're sure that those same fans will absolutely love Valhalla's latest DLC armour set, then. As reported by AndyReloads on YouTube, it's called the Advanced Mechanical Armor, and it'll soon be added to the in-game store. It fires a laser beam from its chest when you use Eivor's Battle Cry ability.
Now listen, Valhalla is no stranger to crazy armour designs — especially when it comes to the sets that are added to the aforementioned in-game store — but this has to be the most immersion-breaking of the bunch. We suppose that this armour could be explained through the lost Isu civilisation that forms the basis of Assassin's Creed's lore, but even then, many will see this set as a clear indication of what the series has become.
There's nothing quite like roaming the medieval English countryside while wearing a full Iron Man-esque robot suit! Although having said that, people are quick to forget that you could dress up as Metal Gear Solid 4's Raiden in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood...

Ermmm?
I'm so out the loop, is this the right game. lol
Reminds me of the Mass Effect armor that came with Dragon Age 2, except that was a little more in the time than this lol.
People are complaining about the series RECENT fantastical elements? Lol. It's been about aliens and ***** since the very beginning.
This is exactly what cosmetic DLC should be, to be honest. Crazy fun stuff.
I love this sh#t haha. Loved the last few games.
*Pushes up glasses
Um excuse me that was MGS4 Raiden you could dress up as in AC Brotherhood not Rising Raiden!
Seriously though even as a huge old school AC fan this doesn't really bother me much considering it's a dlc costume coming out very late in Valhalla's life cycle. Valhalla felt like they made a conscious effort to incorporate some classic AC elements back in like social stealth even if it was a little half-baked. I appreciate that. Heck the Siege of Paris dlc was basically a mini classic AC.
Valhalla was a step in the right direction after the big misstep Odyssey was. If AC Rift turns out to be real then I think there's still hope for AC's future. Just no more Odyssey please ok? Never go full Odyssey!
Yeah, the series has always been silly. Unity had a laser beam shooting sword you unlocked AS PART OF THE MAIN STORY! This is optional cosmetic stuff so yeah, go wild. It’s all a simulation after all.
@Korgon Urk! I'll correct that!
@ShogunRok
Hah! No worries I was just giving you a hard time!
Ok, but this is just historically accurate. Glad to see they're finally taking that angle more seriously.
I want a bearded guy in a pink tutu if we are going full crazy.
If you shoot it 50 or 51 times doesn't matter when it is already dead... I cannot even laugh to this, I just feel deep pain in heart for AC series humiliation.
It's all just the Animus rendering things wrong. What you see isn't exact history. Like when the animus got confused in some people's games and rendered Eivor as the actual all father ODIN!
So it annoys me less in AC than it would in a game without an animus to hide behind as a reason for adding weird stuff. And it doesn't particularly annoy me anyway.
Doesn't mean I use any of that **** however 😂
@nessisonett It didn’t shoot lasers outside of a specific sequence in the story. That had a specific place in the lore and was limited.
It wasn’t silly in the same fashion at all, and really isn’t comparable.
And they’ve already been throwing out historical accuracy and the games suffer for it. The difference in Unity and Syndicate from it alone is astounding. Some fun cosmetics are okay, but the series has just been stupid about this stuff lately.
@MFTWrecks That played a minor lore based role and the games prided themselves on having a lot of historical accuracy. The games suffered big time from doing losing that accuracy and attention to detailz
@MFTWrecks
As soon as Assassin's Creed 3 portrayed the Boston Tea Party as being a free for all brawl between the Colonialists and the British, I stopped taking this series portrayal of history seriously.
@Jaz007 It’s absolutely comparable. The games take place within a simulation and there have always been silly cosmetics. Origins lets you ride a Chocobo. AC3 gives you a ring which reflects bullets. In Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Leonardo pops out of a bloody cardboard box in Renaissance Rome. Not to mention all the missions where you destroy his machine gun, tank, submarine etc which were never actually created. This is the least of the issues with the series’ lax approach to historical events given that it’s openly portrayed as an Animus hack, instead of being portrayed as historically accurate.
Oh, You.....bisoft.....
So I can't get a modern day game with a focus on the Assassin-Templar war because that's silly apparently, but y'all get high tech armour?
Someone desynchronise me right now and put me out of my misery.
Androids creed
Even this is not that crazy given the game canon. You are not actually living on the period, it’s all supposed to be a reconstruction on a computer, and it’s always been full of fantastical gear you can unlock, and unlocking the stuff is not even implied to mean the actual ancestral person had access to it, it can simply be a hack of sorts made accessible for reasons. Even if it was, spoiler alert: the series has always been about a race of ridiculously advanced alien guys that kept humans as slaves multiple millenia ago, and they left tons of tech behind.
That said, this is still locked behind a pay wall and I won’t be finding it on a dungeon so, this means nothing for me.
Can definitely tell it's not assassin's creed in the title anymore.
They have a Thanos inspired set complete with Infinity Stones coming soon, looking forward to getting it.
End of the day its just fun out there armour and weapons, its not canon and its for those who want fun and cool armour to wear.
@Korgon Odyssey is the best AC game since Unity, Valhalla while good is no where near the quality of Odyssey.
@WallyWest
Well your certainly free to have your opinion. Glad you liked it so much but to me it's easily the worst of the main series. I think Valhalla is better in every way pretty much.
@Deadlyblack
I did like the Dragon Age armor for Mass Effect.
@Kang81 Same! It was such a cool design.
@Jaz007 lately? So toure gonna ignore the shadow clone jutsu the assassin master pulled at the end of the first game? You so called fans are so eager to bag on the new games and ignore the stupidity of the games you claim to love. Learn your so called fandom before criticizing it. The games have only changed mechanically. Nothing else is differant. Just your attitudes.
@Jakufox A special one time thing, it wasn’t a big part of the game. The apple of eden bad a small part on purpose. It would have been a big deal if it had been a normal gameplay mechanic, a big deal in a bad way.
The first games stuck to being a historical assassin, the new games barely if at have you play as an assassin in a game called “Assassin’s Creed”.
They also used historical accuracy and had real care for that. What wasn’t the apple of Eden used actual history as a base. It was HISTORICAL fiction, not just fiction.
Maybe you should pay attention to concept of Assassin’s Creed before praising the new games using the name as a stupid cash cow.
I never liked the animus stuff i rather would have seen a story linked through different timelines. A story that completely takes place in one timeline without the animus nonsense.
@Korgon @ShogunRok Can I unlock the MGS4 Raiden costume/outfit in the PS4 version of Brotherhood via The Ezio Collection?
Or is that exclusive to the original PS3 release?
@KidBoruto
I'd imagine you still can. It was an unlock for completing all the VR training missions in Brotherhood so it wasn't dlc or anything.
@Korgon Oh makes sense! I sadly already platinumed Brotherhood, so don't see myself taking the time to do all the VR missions.
