Just when you thought you were rid of all the Sonic the Hedgehog news yesterday, Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley goes and reveals we'll have to sit through a Sonic Frontiers trailer during his show later this month. The man says to expect "a world premiere new look and news" concerning the blue blur's next game. Since it's still slated to launch for PS5, PS4 this year, a release date is expected.
Keighley confirmed Sonic will be at the show in a tweet yesterday, which also provides us with a look at a new piece of art — presumably the key art — and it looks fairly nice:
Sonic Frontiers is just one of more than 30 games set to feature during Gamescom Opening Night Live, with the show currently set to take up two hours of your time. Another title confirmed for the show is a new sci-fi IP from the Subnautica team, although we don't know if it'll be hitting PS5, PS4 yet.
The general reaction to Sonic Frontiers has been mixed to say the least up until now, so let's hope Sonic fans find something to like in this upcoming glimpse. The showcase takes place on Tuesday, 23rd August 2022 at 7pm BST / 11am PT / 2pm ET. Let us know if you're tuning in in the comments below.

A great game for psplus extra. Looks fun, but not a game I would buy unless on the cheap.
Definitely looking forward to seeing Sonic Frontiers on ONL. It could be the best Sonic game since Colors and Generations.
They should release a demo for this. It’s like I want this game to do well, but I’m not exactly feeling it.
@Royalblues Only half of that game was good though. I played it before I was really aware of critics and still thought that the weird beat-em-up levels just didn’t work. I was playing on Wii so I’m not sure if that version was somehow worse.
@Mauzuri If we had to state that everything was our opinion then we’d be here all day. It goes without saying. God, Sonic stans are unbearable.
Good, I'm looking forward to this game and more so than most of what's coming for the rest of the year. The first videos looked a bit rough but the more recent footage has looked very promising
@nessisonett I'm with you, I never got into the the werehog stages which is a shame as the platforming sections were very good
Been curious about this ever since the weird gameplay trailer they dropped.
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. It's been a rollercoaster leading up to launch for this one but I'm genuinely excited to see more of it!
Why don't we know if the new IP from the Subnautica team will be on PS5/PS4?
If you’d watched the Nintendo Switch gameplay they released recently, you’d see the game actually doesn’t look nearly as bad as the first reveal.
Just an observation though.
@Sqush-Pare Because it hasn't been announced yet.
This game looked good once they started showing the cyberspace sections, and the things they’ve been saying on the story with Ian Flynn from the comics being in charge have piqued my interest.
I’m pretty excited to see more tbh, though the initial reveal of this was very poor, I’ll admit that, some of y’all are too down on the cartoon hedgehog.
Everytime I look at this game I see Balan Wonderworld lol
Better than hearing about The Last Of Us for billion millionth time🤮
The fact that this is supposed to be a selling point to get us to watch the show is pretty sad and doesn’t give me much faith this show will be any better than the last few duds
What a ridiculous headline and article. Aren't we all meant to be video game fans here? Since when is a new trailer for the new game of one of the most iconic characters in history something to be "subjected" to? If you are not looking forward to the game then fine go write something else, but some of us are still giving this the benefit of the doubt. I want the game to be great and I welcome the opportunity for a new trailer to get us all excited again
Spin dash, momentum and multiple playable characters as DLC.
@Royalblues But the game was a broken mess. The game really needed some extra polish.
Oh wow, Push Square is being negative about Sonic? That's crazy........
I'm confused, am I on Push Square or Twitter?
@BionicDodo is there a difference anymore?
Ugh, I just wish Sonic would go away already. Its pathetic how desperate Sega have been to keep him relevant after so many failed games. His iconic mascot level died with Sega's consoles.
@Ken_Kaniff nice job ignoring Mania and Generations.
@liamcroft what's with the overly cynical judgement on this game? If anything, It'll be more interesting than the endless shooters Geoff Keighley likes to bloat his shows with.
@Korgon @Royalblues Agree. I like to wait and see for myself on these things.
@Malones2792 Sorry, for not giving credit to the two games out of the 20 to 30 that have released that weren't trash.
@Milt pretty funny how you conveniently left out unleashed in favor of .…colors ?!?holy ***** 😂😂😂😂
@Malones2792 what’s sad is those games aren’t even really true new sonic games but just rehashes and cop-outs of the accolades of sonic games in the past . how much longer can they get away with recycling the glory days of sonic and slapping a new title on it is beyond me .
two very overrated games . it’s not the 90s or early 2000s anymore , how about new games and ideas and let the good games rest with their originality . their hasn’t been a real ambitious and effort sonic game since unleashed .
@Flaming_Kaiser the game wasn’t broken at all . it had an actual drifting mechanic that the casual playerbase was bad at doing , and it was the last game that was actually challenging . people complained because they didn’t want to get good at the game but instead just kick their feet up , eat some doritos , and let the game hold their hands and auto-play through segments like forces ; or they wanted to get hit multiple times and still get an S-rank like generations .
you just proved that guys point about the misunderstanding with unleashed ; the werehog part is understandable, but it’s only hated because people were bad at the game . you ever seen a twitch stream of people playing unleashed ? theyre terrible . that’s not the games fault .
@Royalblues Yeah. I am a Sonic fan, though I won't pretend the games don't have issues, but it can get annoying seeing people who just seem to want to dislike the games before playing them. In the case of game journalists I think that's a poor mindset when going into a game for review.
We've seen the poor initial gameplay reveal, but the things we've seen and heard from people who played it since have been more promising so idk why being "subjected" to more Frontiers is a bad thing here, it seems to be a good thing by and large.
I'm still very hesitant about buying this, will be waiting for reviews.
