The sequel to Telltale Games’ excellent episodic adventure will bring New Tales from the Borderlands on 21st October. The game – discovered on Amazon by legendary tweeter Wario64 – will release on PS5 and PS4, and promises to “take a stand against ruthless corporate overlords in a narrative-driven adventure”. The Deluxe Edition permutation is available to pre-order, bundling in cosmetics for protagonists “Anu, Octavio, and Fran” as well as “10,000 in-game currency and an in-game FL4K Vaultlander collectible”.
Just like the original, the story will be divided into five distinct chapters, and the “decisions you make determine how your story ends in unexpected ways”. The blurb continues: “The Borderlands aren't just home to Vault Hunters, psychos, and weapons-corp CEOs—they're full of downtrodden, intrepid civilians just trying to get by. With a host of returning and fresh faces, this unforgettable tale is sure to delight fans new and old.”
And a product description adds: “Within the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea, you'll control Anu, Octavio, and Fran on the worst day of their lives. Help these three lovable losers as they endeavour to change the world (and maybe even save it). Face down a planetary invasion, vicious vault monster, and cold-hearted capitalist in this cinematic thrill ride where what happens next is up to you. Meet a motley cast full of misfits, assassin bots, and talking guns in this race to the top. It's time to fight back against exploitation and corporate greed. It's time to make Mayhem your business.”
We loved the original Tales from the Borderlands – it’s got the best plot in the series by far – so we’re curious to see what Gearbox has cooked up here. Perhaps our only concern is that, naturally, Telltale Games is no longer at the helm – and we’ve never been especially fond of the writing in the mainline games.
Still, with so much information leaking, we imagine a trailer is imminent – hopefully we’ll get our first glimpse at the sequel soon.

Really looking forward to this, I love Tales from the Borderlands.
I absolutely love this. If I didn't have Lan Di as my profile avatar for this site I would have chosen Loaderbot!
Also, when talking about great writing in games I find that the Telltale Games tend to get overlooked, and this has the best writing of all of them. Portal levels of good writing.
They probably could have went with a better name. Calling it New is most likely gonna confuse people.
I felt borderlands 2 had great writing and characters. All villains pale in comparison to handsome jack.
Hype! First game is fantastic
One of the hardest games I've ever played, hard as in the chatter felt so uninteresting it was hard to get through, that and Wolf Among Us. Maybe I'd just had Telltale fatigue after playing through the brilliant Walking Dead 1&2.
In-game currency sounds ominous.
Gamescon trailer probably
Man I loved the first Tales, even after I had already stopped having any interest in the main games. This might have to be the first Gearbox games I pick up in years!
@Enigk glad it wasn’t just me thinking that
What!? This is coming out of the blue, while the announced The Wolf amongst us 2 is lost in Limbo!? Personally I found this the weakest TT game, but to each their own.
@tameshiyaku Did you play Minecraft Story Mode? For me, that's the weakest Telltale game and it's not even close. It felt like a chore to finish that one.
Bl2, and the pre sequel had great writing. Not sure how I managed to never play the first tales, but definitely going to play this one.
@bpomber I enjoyed the minecraft and borderlands and game of thrones ones. Would among us was my worst ugh it was a slugfest to get thru it
Oh my God... this means Borderlands will actually have good writing again unlike Borderlands 3.
Can’t wait for this, loved the first game as it was so much fun. Even have that clip of “go on peak his face off like a psychopath”
Another one already. I'm really excited for the second one as I absolutely enjoyed the first one 😁
@Nepp67 Not quite safe to assume that. The first Tales was by Telltale. And B2 had Anthony Burch.
B3 lost Burch and this isn't by the Telltale team.
I have no faith in gearbox to write well.
This will come on ps extra soon enough, no point paying 40 for a one and done deal imo
@bpomber nope, that game doesn't even exist in my conscience, but it sounds like a bad idea, but so did the Lego movie and that was good.
@rawzeku I literally thought it was a remaster at first.
@MFTWrecks Damn that's a massive shame :/
Cool. The first tales of borderlands is excellent so this is gonna be good also.word up son
Omg absolute winner !!!
Really enjoyed the first game, unfortunately not that bothered about playing anytime soon, I'll enjoy it even more when it's either free or had a nice big discount. Tales are exactly the type of games that would do really well being massively subsidised and churned out for game pass and ps plus.
Another day of Sony’s silence.
The 3rd party news is nice but Sony is getting old.
I played every Borderlands but 3 and I can agree Tales has the BEST story. I have fond memories of it and is not even that old.
finger guns pew pew pew
I may just preorder this to support the game and the company. Apparently the first one was a massive flop to the point that they were thinking about canceling the last few episodes. I'm guilty, too. Got it for free on ps+
Here's hoping this one does better.
@rawzeku I agree. I thought it was a remaster or something.
I still need to play the first game, but good to know the title and release date/price for the sequel!
@huyi "This will come on ps extra soon enough, no point paying 40 for a one and done deal imo"
You're free to do whatever you want with your money, but it's because of this attitude that many great games fail to sell well to guarantee a sequel.
It's probably an unpopular opinion but I was never able to get into Borderlands as a franchise. It always felt hollow and lifeless to me. Even so, Tales From the Borderlands I did quite enjoy.
The original and Wolf Among Us were their best games as far as I am concerned - and I'm a massive Monkey Island fan and loved the Sam & Max and Back to the Future games.
Really hope they release it fully on disc though.
Tales was one of the most enjoyable TTG stories. I totally avoided it bc I thought it would be meh.. and when I played it from a sale, it was witty, funny, well written and enjoyable from beginning to end. A new TFTBL game and a new Wolf Among Us too! Happy to play these story based titles!
