It appears you won't have to set aside 100 hours of playtime in order to complete Assassin's Creed Mirage as Ubisoft has confirmed the game will be similar in size to the titles released before the series went full-blown RPG. Built to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Assassin's Creed, the title is a smaller project on purpose.
With a focus on "stealth, on close-quarter combat, on parkour, and a denser city," you should expect it to last somewhere in the region of 15 to 20 hours. "Yes, you should expect something that's closer to our original games," executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté told IGN. Assassin's Creed Mirage is priced at £44.99/$49.99 as a result.
Côté also spoke of the upcoming Assassin's Creed Infinity platform, which will house Assassin's Creed Codename Red (feudal Japan setting) and Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe (rumoured to take place during witch trials of the 1600s) when they release. While the former will continue the series' recent RPG trend, Hexe won't be one. Therefore, Côté believes the Infinity platform will allow the publisher to develop different experiences of varying sizes. "Not everything has to be a 150-hour RPG, right?"
Infinity will also open the franchise up to different pricing tiers. "Sometimes you'll have free experiences as well, which I think is a great way to entice players to either come back. Commenting on the success of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's crossover quests with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Côté said they got fans interested in different products and so appropriate price tags will be "top of [our] mind as we build Infinity".
Are you happy to hear not every game in the Assassin's Creed series going forward will require more than 100 hours to complete? Let us know in the comments below.

in other news water is wet.
pretty much well known with price and discussed in comments in other articles
Haven't been interest in AC games since Brotherhood so I doubt that this will revive my interest.
$50 for a game in 2022 that is the length of the original games is a very good deal.
Very happy about this. When recent Assassin's Creed games become too long they tend to overstay their welcome and become void of any unique experiences.
Anything between 20-40 hours is more than enough as long as it's quality!
Good. Dropped Valhalla because it didnt knew when to end.
Quality > Quantity.
We've been stuck in a damaging loop recently where time = value.
It doesn't for many.
So they are going to try and please both old school fans and new school fans along with some other new stuff as well? Sounds ambitious but I wish them well! It's going to be interesting to see how all of this turns out.
I bet all of the AC games only take around 20 hours to complete and it's just all the superfluous bloat, collectathons, and tedious identikit side missions that fill them out to 100 hours plus.
Well that’s welcome news.
I'm glad there'll be short and long games from now on, we hopefully won't see a big part of the playerbase nagging about em anymore now.
I'm really glad they are back to the original formula of AC. I just hope it is a true classic AC not just PR talk. Having the game change formula from time to time to break away from repetition is nice.
This is great news! Now give us a trilogy just like this
Thank goodness. As mich as i enjoyed valhalla you lose the narrative threads because there is so much padding. And effectively you ended up doing the same thing again and again. A shorter run time allows for a denser, more liveable city and a more coherent story
This actually interests me now.... I just don't have the time for a 100hr Valhalla-esque romp!
15-20 for campaign is solid, assuming another 10ish for the plat?
Well they'd have to cater for both audiences. There are people who also don't wanna spend £70 on a 6hr game, they want to be playing that same game for the next few months without buying anything new. And for the group in a hurry to finish games, it's not like you're retiring from gaming after beating said game, you're just going to be spending money again buying another game or two amounting to 100hrs. Yeah you'd have say 3 different experiences in 100hrs spending £210, fine that's on you, but there are people who want to spend those hours on just one solid game with £70.
Thats cool by me.i enjoy both classic assasins creed game and the rpg ones.so its all gravy.and the length by the original classic assassins creed is fine by me.this game is gonna be good.word up son
Make it 10 hours and I'll be there 👍
This is good news. The last game I played was Syndicate. 100+ hour games are a daunting prospect for some. As much as I’d love to launch into the three subsequent games, it’s a lot of game to see through.
How long on average are people taking to complete one of these epics?
Personally I would rather have a game that lasts 8 to 10 hours. That's full of quality gameplay.
That’s fine. I want more, like how I spent a bunch of time in Unity, but better this than bloat that fills other “AC” games. I’m also confused, I thought this was the scope of Revelations, which is definitely a longer game. Either way, I’m glad not everything is 100 hours long.
Edit: For main story that's perfect with some extra side assasstions to go. If we can get main assassinations with the quality of the original's that would be fantastic. I still think the original had the best assassinations because of all the prep work you did and the way it slowy opened up all the info and let you take in it. The black box info jam was terrible and overwhelming. Let me scout it out and earn that info.
Alright. So long as the gambling AO thing doesn't mean it's packed with NFTs, Loot boxes and other trash, then I'm more than likely in on this one.
So we'll be getting less for more money. Yeah, that's pretty much in keeping with everything else in life. Remember when they used to sell a half gallon of juice instead of 59 ounces? This is what they call "progress."
This is a con for me, but I'm still gonna play it. It's the one. It's the one that interests me the least though.
I keep hearing how Mirage is going to be more like the first AC game. God, I hope it won't mirror it completely because a few years ago I was feeling nostalgic and went back and tried to play the first AC game. I had to give up and uninstall the damn thing after just a few minutes because of the God awful movement and combat. Don't believe me? Install it again and give it a whirl. Trust me. You do NOT want a return to the start of this franchise.
@Vacuumator i did Valhalla in about 60 hours to the plat, but because of how incredibly tedious the game was I'd say s good 20 hours of that was me leaving it running and getting distracted by other things. On the flip side i happily sunk 100 hours into Odyssey.
@BradT you realise that statement is just foolish. They won't take it back to the first game, just that it's a smaller, shorter game much like the first.
Odyssey and Valhalla are extremely repetitive. Both games could be cut to 50h to complete and they would be exactly the same.
I'd rather have them adding something new to the game than copypasting the same areas time and time again.
Thank god. The 'new' AC games are fun for a short while and then quickly become bore fests. Last one I played that I actually properly enjoyed are Black Flag and Syndicate.
"Not everything has to be a 150-hour RPG, right?"
Such a refreshing take. The new ACs never appealed to me, as it looked more hack-slash RPG than stealth a action.
What I enjoyed about the original AC is that you're able to hide in plain sight - which made it competitive against other stealth juggernauts like Metal Gear or Splinter Cell. In these games, you stick to the shadow and use your gadgets to complete your mission. In AC, you hide in plain sight: march with the priests, sit in stalls, and look completely innocuous. It's a refreshing take in the stealth action genre.
Stealth characters are not supposed to be one-man army, where you can take on a horde of mindless AIs. The point of these games is to infiltrate, complete your objective, then leave. And when you are spotted - you're supposed to lose all your advantages. Stealth games should PUNISH you if you fail to remain sneaky.
I don't know if that will be the case in this new iteration. I can sense some action elements similar to previous games. So I am not holding my breath on AC Mirage providing us with a new stealth (or rather old) stealth action experience.
@BradT you do realize that it’s less money, not more money right? Mirage is only 50 instead of the usual 60 or even 70 of other games
@BradT A smaller meal can be a much better meal than a golden corral buffet. To me, stuff like Valhalla isn't more value for money, it's bloated with cheap grease.
Very disappointing news. I've played every mainline AC game since the very start, but I'll wait on this one until it goes on a big sale. No way am I spending that much money on a game I'll finish in a week. Give me more 150 hour worlds, please!
This sounds great. In a light of upcoming installments and the way Ubi moves this franchise, I feel this will be perfect requiem for AC saga...
@Unlucky13 Than go play Infinity...
This will probably be the first AC game I won't buy at launch ,hate the character and the setting ,sand ,sand and more sand nah, seems more like AC lite for 50 quid.
@djlard or maybe wait for the proper AC game instead of this what seems to be glorified dlc
@tallythwack that idea barely lasted. It's quickly became it's own full game that's separate. This is not going to play like Valhalla if anything they've said is true. This could be the game we've been waiting for.
@tallythwack This seems like proper AC. Those oversized barren rpgs are definitely not Assassin's Creed. And if you don't know why, than try to answer these questions: What is Layla's goal in present day? What is connecting Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla? What is historical purpose of dozens of hours fishing in AC Valhalla? What happened to Juno? etc.
@djlard erm I don't care and its just fun and relaxing ,love a massive open world to explore with over a 100 of hrs of content ,if people are happy paying 50 quid for 8hrs of story thats fine, but its the quality of gameplay that counts people cry ,yes it is and I want 30 hrs of quality gameplay ,mixed together with 100hrs of bumf ,and if I want to go fishing for 10hrs, I bloody well shall.
If you remove all the filler then thats great. I loved Syndicate but i was happy when it was finished if you put all the DLC together and cut out the timewasters then you have a way better time.
Nor would Valhalla if it wasn’t padded with so many miles of grassy fields to slow your progress through missions.
@Unlucky13 someone has plenty time on their hands...no job? £50 is below average for a new game these days. Lighten up.
@daveofduncan No friends or social life, more like it, lol. But regardless, my style is to play one game at a time, about two hours a night, for two months or so until I complete it. I love really big games, and the last two AC's were wonderful.
@djlard I'm not really sure what Infinity really even is yet, other than it seems to involve an online component, and I play offline single player exclusively. I want a lot more games like Odyssey.
@tallythwack You hit the nail. Quality counts. I expect from AC strong story (mainly present day story) assassinations, stealth, climbing, traversing roofs. Unfortunately in last 3 installments I get running, running, running, fighting, running, running, piece of story, running, running, and I think I forgot something... ohh yes, running. That is my experience, so you cannot wonder I'm sad and frustrated when I still get 20 hour story but with 80 hour unavoidable traveling...
@djlard fast travel is your friend
@Unlucky13 If I understand it right, Infinity will be some kind of hub for constant DLCs.
@tallythwack It would be, if points of interest wouldn't be exactly 500m away from it. 😉
@Jaz007 and whos we, i love the recent ac games ,the others where repetitive, great stories ,crap gameplay
@tallythwack ewr... pardon me, but new ACs are way more repetitive than older ones.
@tallythwack People who want a game about the core basics of what assassin’s creed is actually about (and the name to actually be apart of the game). It doesn’t matter how well the game does other things if it lacks those and carries the name.
@djlard not really ,the old ac had the same rinse and repeat 3 mission types and thats it ,and those tailing missions ugh
@Jaz007 nah ,nobody likes that crap why do you think ubisoft has continued to go with the massive open world rpg mechanics ,because it sells ,maybe this glorified dlc mirage will satisfy the minority.
@tallythwack Yes, tailing or defend person missions are pain in the ass. On the other hand climbing monumental buildings outside or inside is a thing I'm missing the most.
@djlard I wish they would change the climbing mechanic to be honest ,something that involves a bit more skill would be nice instead of just holding down a button and pushing up,but yeah I agree
@tallythwack I liked the style from AC2 (I think) where you had to, at least, push stick into right direction while climbing or jumping, if not, you simply jumped into empty air and felt down. Also climbing path was more visible, now it isn't so obvious and sometimes I think you can climb slick wall.
It's sad to see game Devs catering to the immature gamers with the attention span of a plank of wood, oh well guess I won't be buying this.
15-20 hours is perfect length to me, I don't have the time for super long games anymore...
Won’t be spending my money on a game that short. Absolutelly love rpgs but will wait for this when it’s a lot cheaper. Prefer 40 plus hours to get my moneys worth
