EA Motive has confirmed its upcoming Dead Space PS5 remake won't contain a single load screen — unless you die to the Necromorphs. The original PS3 title came quite close to achieving this, with the camera firmly planted just behind Isaac Clarke's right shoulder for almost the entire time. However, control was taken away between chapters because of load screens. That won't happen on PS5 with a single, uninterrupted camera shot.
It means Dead Space follows in the footsteps of God of War, which committed to a single shot for the entire duration of the game. God of War Ragnarok will also do the same in November. An EA blog post notes this single shot now allows you to freely explore the USG Ishimura, going wherever you like and backtracking for items you might have missed. "It’s now a completely unbroken experience," said senior producer Philippe Ducharme.
Elsewhere in the article, Durcharme talks about "honouring the legacy" of the first game by staying true to its core foundations, but then adding some neat enhancements on top. There'll be new content, more lore to uncover, and the obvious graphical improvements.
"The goal was to make you feel like you’re experiencing Dead Space again for the first time, if you were already a fan of the game. But we also have the chance to give people who never played it the opportunity to have the definitive Dead Space experience, with a game that plays, that looks, that sounds like a modern game." The Dead Space remake launches for PS5 — there's no PS4 version — on 27th January 2023.

I haven't been this excited for a game in ages. January can't come soon enough!
I am probably one of the few people who think God of War 2018 could have done with a "behind you" view button. Yes, it would have broken the admittedly very impressive single shot atmosphere, but the flashing circle around Kratos felt like a sticking plaster to me the whole game.
Dead Space makes much more sense due to the corridor environments but again, I don't want the single shot atmosphere to impact the gameplay.
Boy, I really hope this is good. The original game is an absolute masterpiece/classic of modern gaming. Good luck, and don’t f**k it up!
Will the Series X/S versions also be one shot?
Should be interesting to play this after playing The Calisto Protocol a few weeks before, so horror Xmas/new year this year, Calisto protocol, dead space, Resident evil 4 remake 😱
@Sqush-Pare this is a playstation site mate but probably is 😆
@Kairu it's a very tense experience.
One of the very few games that I have gone back to after 10 years of not playing it. Dead Space 1 + 2 are gems in the gaming space.
As someone who’s played the OG Dead Space quite a number of times, I just hope this will be on par with the Demon’s Souls or RE 2 remakes, in terms of quality.
It will also be interesting to play this so soon after The Callisto Protocol.
This game is going to be amazing.i 💖ve dead space games.word up son
Just wanted to ask, is the gameplay for this similar to resident evil? Whereby I mean kinda stiff controls & not much ammo around? Or is it similar to uncharted/gears? Where it’s mainly an action game? Reason I’m asking is because I’m not a resident evil fan really.
@Cyrus29 It's certainly not horrible janky controls like RE but neither is it an action game like Uncharted. As for Ammo, that'll depend on difficulty level and how much you rely on the characters other abilities. I'm not a fan of REs but loved the Dead Space series. It's certainly worth a shot.
It is all looking fantastic on PS5
PS5 might end up next to my EVGA 1080Ti FTW as top favorite gaming hardware.
@pip_muzz
I agree a bit.
GOW was fine but i'd have rather had the camera pulled back a bit. Kratos took up too much screen imo.
I have DS 1/2 on Steam but never played for whatever reason. I loaded 1 up for maybe 10 minutes but quit. I don't remember why. May have been it was a bit too much RE in movement style as I can't play any of those till they went first person.
Don't remember though. Could have just been I got caught up in something else and forgot about it.
@Eldritch thanks for the reply, this and Callisto protocol look great, wasn’t too sure bout the type of games they were. Will def be trying them out.
As long as they got rid of the unkillable alien. Could actually kill it, it just kept coming back like a rob zombie movie.
It's been probably a decade since I have played this but wasn't the original game one shot if you don't count the loading screens?
@pip_muzz Dead Space is Horror and would not work well that kind of button. It need to restrain the camera for the game.
Got some unfortunately information. GoW 18 wasnt in 'one shot' theres many cuts in the game.
So... Like the original? I cant talk about dead space 3 but both 1 and 2 are already 'one shot'. To say it follows in the steps of god of war is disingenuous to say the least, more like the contrary.
@djape and yet Xbox things ARE mentioned by the writers on this site. Hmmm.......
I have no idea what they mean by "one shot" despite description.
Aren't all games "one shot" until they're not? Does it mean there are no cut scenes?
im a big fan of the original trilogy i want the save state to be there and no change in the story. personally i wanted deadspace 4
and if this one shot is load times who cares about load times.c64 gen here dont worry load times today is nothing 😂
I'm kinda hoping it's like Black Mesa in the sense that rather than a scene for scene recreation of the original, it is instead rebuilt with a more modern perspective on level design in mind. For example, larger areas, more believable transitions (corridors, ladders, chambers), more open design, etc.
@GreatAuk I imagine it's a reference to loading screens. So for example, in the original, when riding the tram rail there would be a loading screen and then arrival at the new location. I would guess that there is no loading screen in the reboot, and instead you actually just ride the tram (or maybe all of the locations are immediately connected together?), just as one example.
I can't wait for a back-to-back month of The Calisto Protocol and the Dead Space Remake, assuming no delays happen.
@GreatAuk no loading screens, but also 'one long ride'. So no flash backs or flash forwards where you are in a different place. Time won't pass by without you playing it... Hope you understands what I mean because it's difficult to explain it in English for me.
OMG! One of my best 5 games of all time! This gone be Goty!!!!
@RiceC03 You are right cooked rice.
@GreatAuk No loading screen man. Have you played God of War 2018 it's like that. Do you understand?
@LordOfTurnips You still don't understand. It means the game doesn't stop to load when getting on a team or going to a new area. The game stops when you save also on the PS3 version so it has been doing that.
@Mythologue Watch the demo on YouTube it's out already.
@Don_Corleone you may find this shocking but I've never played any God of War game.
Coincidentally I just purchased God of War 2018 a couple hours ago! I guell I'll find out soon first hand what one shot really means haha.
You might want to play all of the God war games first you are going to be confused. There's years of games connected to God of war and the storyline. You aren't going to understand what they are talking about. Start with the first gof of war from ps2 and then finish the rest You are missing around 7 games before that. That is cool you are getting it but play the first games then last play the most recent god of war.
@Don_Corleone
Thats a technicality, Dead Space has loading screens in between levels but thats a limitation of systems at the time and, this is just a personal opinion, having loading screens is much better than the absolute boredom of using the bifrost, I rather have a 2 seconds loading screen than a 5 minute excuse everytime you want to change realms because the game is designed around that no matter how fast the ssd is.
Now, when it comes to Dead Space 2, full game, one shot, you cant even count save screens because the ps3 had a ***** UI and the game did autosave so you never REALLY had to manually save it.
I was not expecting them to make it a one shot like God of War, great news!
