RGG Studio is no stranger to amazing trailers, and this extended video for the freshly announced Like a Dragon: Ishin! is right up there with its best work. The near six-minute trailer introduces so many familiar faces — assuming you're a big Yakuza fan — and confirms that the title is a full-on remake of the original Ishin, which first launched all the way back in 2014.
As alluded, the developer has added actors from various Yakuza games that released after the original Ishin, adjusting the story in the process. RGG Studio has described the new Ishin! as an "all-star" title, and it certainly shows.
If you didn't already know, this will be the first time that the spinoff has been released here in the West. Fans have been asking for a localisation for close to a decade, and now it's looking like we're getting the best version yet. The 21st February, 2023 is the date to mark on your calendar, by the way.

This game has immediately jumped to the top of my most wanted list. 2023 is absolutely insane.
I noticed joon-gi han who didn’t exist until Y6. Wonder if it has story additions.
Also weird they’re not using the dragon engine.
Yeah this looks ace.
Can't for the life of me find the will to finish Yakuza 3. It is a slog. But now i wana finish 3-6 before this comes out
So excuse my ignorance… but this is basically Yakuza in a samurai period setting I’m guessing?
@darkswabber The RGG Studio head whose name escapes me right now mentioned during the livestream that they wanted to add characters from 0, 6, and 7 since the original had characters from 1-5. I know from the trailer we now have the 3 Dojima lieutenants from 0, with Joon-Gi Han and Adachi plus a few others I may have missed. No Ichiban curiously, unless they are saving him for later.
RGG, I love you! This, and Like A Dragon 8 with Ichiban and Kiryu joining forces?? Bring it all on!
This is amazing, they actually added characters from Yakuza 0 all the way to Like a Dragon. Watching that trailer was one constant surprise after the other: Kuze and Awano, then Zhao and Adachi, freaking Han Joon-gi...
I thought it'd be a remaster and I was totally fine with that, but this is a full-blown remake. Bloody love it.
Yeah this is going to be friggin amazing! Thank you RGG and Sega! Very excited!
This and Mask Of The Lunar Eclipse getting long overdue and deserved western releases announced on the same day that was just awesome ^__^
Brilliant. I hadn't even heard of this spin-off until now, but I'm super excited to try out this remake.
@colonelkilgore Basically yes. It's based on historical events, but it uses actors from the Yakuza games, so there are lots of familiar faces.
@ShogunRok cool, I quite enjoyed my time with Yakuza Kiwami earlier this year (my first Yakuza game)… so I’ll probably end up checking this out.
I'm so happy to see this one coming to the west. Ishin, Kenzan and Dead Souls are the 3 i wasn't able to play. SO seeing Ishin coming to modern consoles, made my day. 3 games announced on 1 day, good day to be a Yakuza fan
I swear to god I'm dreaming and the dream just continues and continues and I never want it to end 🤩
Super exciting to see that this is a new remake. Can't wait.
@darkswabber I mean yeah if you read the article it says “ As alluded, the developer has added actors from various Yakuza games that released after the original Ishin, adjusting the story in the process.”
Ryoma Sakamoto is a great person to focus a game on. The man is considered a hero in Japan and the time period the game is focused on doesn't get a lot of hype/games so this should be fun.
they actually did it
I hadn’t heard of this game before. I’m just starting out on my journey with the series, this makes me want to marathon them now.
The combat look very exciting leaning more towards a hack and slash kind of game. I wonder if there will be a English dub like the past two games from RGG.
This is great news! Finally able to play inshin from all those years ago! this is the only game I haven't played yet so this will be a treat!
@Saberhunter2997 this gives me a vibe like onimusha tbh
damn, it is hard to believe sega actually thought the yakuza series was NOT viable in the west haha... here we are, SIX sequels later.... hopefully those marketing and sales people got fired long ago and are no longer with the company. this is the last entry that needed a localization in the west... the franchise is at an all time high popularity wise and i am sure those working at sega are having a grand old time counting their money! outside of persona, one could argue that the yakuza series is what has kept sega relevent and above water over the past 10 years or so....
@Lavalera Hopefully they'll eventually remake both Kenzan and Dead Souls! 1 game down, only 2 left.
@Saberhunter2997 No english dub unfortunately, hope you're okay with Japanese voices and english subtitles.
