Death Stranding’s soundtrack, with licensed music from Icelandic outfit Low Roar, is iconic. The sad news of lead singer Ryan Karazija’s passing has hit auteur Hideo Kojima hard, then. Karazija died over the weekend at just 40-years-old, after a “short illness” relating to pneumonia associated complications. Kojima, unsurprisingly, has led the tributes.
“I heard the news,” he said. “I can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it. Without Ryan, without you and your music, Death Stranding would not have been born. Your music will live forever in this world and in me. Thank you. Rest in peace.”
A statement from Low Roar added: “His beautiful music and lyrics, sung in his haunting voice have touched the lives of so many people all over the world, and will continue to do so. He was a kind and beautiful soul and our worlds are shattered by the loss of him. May we honour his memory through his art and hold him forever in his songs. The sixth Low Roar record was already underway and will be completed and released when it is ready. Please respect his family’s privacy at this incredibly difficult time.”

Loved the soundtrack to Death Stranding. RIP.
The music really did give Death Stranding so many beautiful moments and wouldn't have been the same without the Low Roar. I've listened to them frequently since playing the game so it's really sad to learn of Ryan Karazija’s passing.
His voice is irrevocably linked to Death Stranding's DNA, and I've come to associate it with overcoming a significant obstacle. It's an incredibly sad loss.
I discovered with band, like many I'm sure, through Death Stranding. This is awful. 40 years is no time.
Terrible news, great band. I was literally listening to “Give Up” about an hour ago. RIP.
Don't be so serious was a great opening song to the game and its the one that stuck with me (along with BBs Lullaby). Too many great musicians have passed this year. RIP
There are a lot of young people dying these days……..
Never underestimate the power of music. Some of those Low Roar songs randomly playing on some of the story path deliveries I will never forget. It was a feeling I've rarely ever experienced in a video game and was so perfectly suited to the game and the weird vibe of it all. Sort of like a calming ASMR vibe as you were delivering. RIP Ryan
RIP. I wont forget those tunes....
That’s genuinely heartbreaking, 40 is no age at all. Like he would have been born in 1982, that’s mental. Such a shame.
Heartbreaking. That is such a young age.
40 is too young.
Also the band's music lent so much to the experience of Death Stranding. Don't be so Serious at the beginning shot was just magic.
Oh no! This is tragic, indeed. I loved the music in Death Stranding and my heart goes out to Karazija’s family and friends. Much too young.
That’s such a shame, taken far too soon. I just thought earlier that I’m going to play Death Stranding tomorrow. I’ve already played the opening before and straight away I thought the music was great, I can see why it plays a big part of the game as it just wouldn’t be the same without it.
The soundtrack of Death Stranding is absolutely stellar and 90% of it thanks to Low Roar. I actually started listening to this band after the first trailer ("I'll keep coming") and it's such a shame the leader of the band passed on so early into his life. Not fair at all.
Thankful to Kojima for getting everyones attention to this awesome band.
