Original Article: As promised, the DualSense Edge PS5 controller is up for pre-order today, 25th October.
The pro pad, which features customisable triggers, thumb sticks, and back buttons, is currently available for pre-order in European countries France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the UK, with the United States page going live a little later. As a quick reminder, the snazzy controller will set you back £209.99 / €239.99 / $199.99.
If you successfully place your pre-order, you'll receive your DualSense Edge upon its release on 26th January 2023. From this date, it'll be available for regular purchase through PlayStation Direct, and will hit other retailers about a month later.
According to our poll, nearly 50 per cent of over 4,000 voters said they weren't interested in the pad after learning the price point. We expect the controller will still sell reasonably well despite the large price tag, though. If you're interested, visit PlayStation Direct for all the pre-order details. Betting these won’t ever sell out.
Pre-ordered this morning from a local retailer since we don’t have PlayStation Direct in my country. I was planning to get it either way so might as well pre-order.
Given the price point in USD is $200 I’d say where I live in Canada it’d be $250, so I’d rather just not buy the controller. If I needed another one and was going to pay the price this costs I’d rather just get 2 of the regular Dualsense controller in different colors given it would still cost less than this.
Annnnnd its gone
I have put money aside for the dualsense edge. I always wanted a pro gaming control, so as soon as it was ready to preorder i got one. Looking forward to getting my mitts on it.
@Yaycandy I only got my preorder only a few minutes ago for my dualsense edge. I wonder how much is in actual gamers hands and not scalpers?
They could charge £300 and the die hard fans would still pay the price. These will sell well simply because it's "Sony"
@ColdHandGee
I follow a website tracking page that you can put in the direct link and it shows a lot of traffic to the page recently but most of it is refresh bots. Really sad. Just make them in store exclusive. I remember getting my ps2 in person on launch night in usa, bunch of animals lol. Those were the days…
Right, get your wallets out ...As if you're not getting robbed enough lately from ...everything, be it rising rent or interest, food, fuel, electricity, increased subscription costs and all the rest, why not waste a few hundred more on an overpriced video game controller as well. Hooray!
Am I right in thinking it would be cheaper to buy one from the US. I live in the UK and if the pound doesnt plummett any further and shipping costs arent too bad could it be cheaper? Would it work with a UK PS5?
@CWill97 These products don't need to sell out. They are for obsessives and professionals only. They are premium items that allow them to keep their brand value high, much like Apple selling $999 monitor stands, it's madness for everyone else. They aren't meant to be a good cost:value proposition.
What's the reason people pay this amount of money for a controller? Is it more from a comfort point of view or can you actually achieve better results with it in certain games?
More money than dualsense
@Vil
One would argue any subscription is not a necessity.
I wish this at least had a better battery. Looks like a hard pass for me.
If it’s the best controller then lots of esport wannabe’s will buy it, so I suppose that’s its market. For most of use it has minimal value, but that’s fine. Not everything has to be for my demographic (lots of people could learn this lesson).
this is one of the few higly desirable piece of tech that launches after 2020 and is not sold out within the first 30 min of bein available.
my plan is to place an order, hold it until 1 or 2 weeks before release and then cancel and refund it (if needed) that will definetely hurt their numbers even further and send a message of how absurd is the pricing of this thing.
and it's a shame because everything else looks great on paper for this controller.
Bet the they go fast and scalpers clean up again then they sell for 500 on ebay.
Just wondering if they're copying the Ticket Master/Live Nation 'Dynamic pricing' model, to beat the scalpers, by screwing over the customers and selling the controller's at the highest price they think the market can take.
At the end of the day it's still just a controller. I don't know anyone who would play that price for one.
Secured! Will be a nice addition to the collection!
@Luna-Harmony there will be relatively low demand, plus other makers of controllers, so nothing for scalpers
lol only joypads i get outside of the 2 joypads i buy at launch,is a theme or limited one no interest in these types of joypads. no harm to the peeps that do fill your boots 👍
lol another thing i want to gather dust in a Scalpers living room 🤣
Are the pre-ordered limited to one per customer? I was hoping to get 4. 🤣
Seriously Sony, I think I'll survive with my regular, crappy Dual Sense.
For $50 more, you can get a Xbox Series S.
Only diehard fans or pro gamers will need this.
@Vacuumator I suppose that's true. It depends. I think most people at least need internet or a mobile phone plan. Either way, there are still too many subscriptions for everything nowadays. lol
does it only have 2 back buttons?
Ordered, looks good.
@trev666 All u need.
I would buy one... if it wasn't half the cost of an entire digital version PS5.
Well I hope its a great controller for people that really want one ,but at nearly half price of the ps5 console itself then I certainly couldn't justify paying over 200quid for what is essential another controller, but anyway hope people that buy it really enjoy it and if its really really good then maybe I'll get one when prices have dropped quite abit ,not that it will drop anytime soon ,but very happy with dualsense as is
LOL 200 quid? They having a laugh 😂😂😂
$400 in NZ.
Pretty much half the price of another ps5.
LOL
sure , why not ? i guess i’ll give a lung to avoid the inevitable stick drift that all the regular controllers get. but my current 4th controller has to go bad first which is probably soon
It's an insult to call this a premium product when you see how great looking the xBox ones are with the mesh-like surfaces and the fact you can choose the design of it.
Jim needs a slap from the Tango man!
@Luna-Harmony But i dont want to go digital only not even for cheap.
I want one but im not in a hurry i want a 2TB harddisk first.
I cringed just looking at that “$199.99” price point. I can think of so many other things I could get with that or even put that amount toward. To each their own though!
@BusyOlf and it doesn’t even have a good battery like the Elite 2….this is a hell to the naw for me.
@Vil sony ain't ain't putting a gun to nobodies head.
When I can get one dirt cheap second hand 🤷♀️
I own an Elite 2 controller for Xbox as I got a sale price, but just don’t see the point in this one yet. The Dualsense is already really feature-rich, and I have two of them. I might get one at some point but am pretty happy with the standard controller. $200 is a bit high.
I think this one will bite the scalpers in the arse. I hope barely anyone is interested in these at £210, let alone scalping prices.
These controllers are in the same price range as scuff and .xBox elite , they'll sell plenty of them , main thing is good build quality.
